As teh Asimov was docked and tethered into place, the crew going to the meeting inside made their way to the docking hatch. As the hatch hissed open; a warm, dry air cane into the ship. Outside stood three figures in civilian attire… but with phaser rifles on their shoulders. A Bajoran and two Humans nodded as the hatch revealed the crew of the Asimov, and one of the Humans said “Welcome to Crantaken Station, you guys. Nice to have visitors. My name is Chad Brosnick, and I’m the head of the Security detail sent to escort you to the meeting. Before we go inside, though, there are a few things you need to know. First and foremost, do not leave the group. Until you are deemed a non-threat by the station, you have to be escorted at all times. If you try and wander off… well… it will at least be painful, if not outright deadly. Part of the charm of the station, I’m afraid. Two, no scanning or activating of anything more than your commbadges. The station reacts strongly to anyone it doesn’t know trying to figure it out. And lastly, don’t eat or drink anything outside of the designated cafeterias and domiciles. It won’t hurt you, but it will taste like the worst thing you can imagine. Any questions?”

GM

Shara couldn’t help but smirk. “I take it being armed is out too, right?” she said simply. She had concealed weapons on her and if they had beamed over it unlikely they would have been allowed to materialize with her. But she’s been silly to not even try. On the other hand, she might have gotten away with not saying anything but given the high surveillance they were under she figured they’d confiscate it all in a moment anyway.

Commander Calloway, CIO

Chad laughed slightly. “Aw, no… armed is okay. I kinda figured you’d all be armed anyway. Yeah, no worries.”

“Oh good, so it really is a party!” Calloway exclaimed. “See, all we need is a few mickeys of something interesting to drink and someone crooning quietly in the back corner and we’re set!”

Paddy leaned into whoever could hear him and whispered, “Talk about a warm welcome.” He fell into step behind Calloway, waiting to be introduced.

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

One of the ‘guards’, the Bajoran, looked at McMillan and smiled. Apparently, he heard the statement even though it was whispered, and said “Oh, don’t stress it. These things are for the nynats, not you guys.” and he laughed as he patted the rifle.

GM

If the others were put off at all, Shara was actually grinning because these were her kind of people. But of course she was taking in every details of them and their surroundings. After all, she had a job to do and it wouldn’t be wise to drop her guard too much. Or at all.

Commander Calloway, CIO

Sara looked around and took it all in. It was certainly quite the station. The idea that it could harm them independent of any guards was truly incredible, though also deeply alarming.

-Captain Sara Kiernan, CO

Paddy shot the Bajoran a quizzical look and said, “Forgive me, nynats?”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

The Bajoran nodded. “Yes, sir. Look like something like a cross between a Terran bat and a Klingon targ. They get in the hangar sometimes and-” As if on cue, a shriek spilled out of the darkness. With an ease born of practice, the three ‘guards’ unslung their rifles and raised them up forming a ring around the Asimov crew. There was silence for a moment and then the first guard to speak to them yelled “CONTACT!” and the other two rifles swung to his position and the three fired. Three streaks of phaser energy lit up a corridor into the darkness and struck a large, winged, shadowy form in the blackness. A shriek filled their ears and then slowly faded lower and lower as the form plummeted into the depths.

There was no sound of it landing anywhere.

The Bajoran smiled and looked at Patrick. “Yeah… that.” and then chuckled as he slung his rifle back.

GM

“Nice shot,” Calloway said. with a quick nod of approval.

“Fascinating.” Sara commented without thinking. “Are those things a part of the station, or unwanted houseguests?” Perhaps both. This was a curious place and curiously was her greatest weakness. Cantreken Station seemed to be alive, and Sara wasn’t sure how to feel about that, though she wasn’t sure it was the case. Though it definitely had a mind of its own, from how they had been told twice now not to deviate from the group until the station itself deemed them non-threatening.

-Captain Sara Kiernan, CO

“Oh no… they come in from the nebula. Somewhere out in all that… hell… is an asteroid field that gets tossed around like dice in a cup. They come from there. When one of the asteroids get close enough, they sometimes make the move to the station.”

GM

“Anything else we should look out for?” Shara asked. She was curious where the nynat had gone, but she had seen far creepier thing and it was usually best to just go along with it and save the questions later.

Commander Calloway, CIO

“Naw… nothing we have found, anyway.” the guard replied.

Paddy found himself instictually reaching for the phaser pistol on his waist. He was keen to make contact with any new form of life, but would shoot if he absolutely had to, “Natural harmony at its finest.” He said.

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

One of the humans looked at him and said “We tried capturing one when we first found it. It… didn’t go well.” and he shivered.

GM

“How does the station itself tolerate them?” Sara inquired, trying to glean some more information if a little diplomatically.

-Captain Sara Kiernan, CO

The guard shrugged his shoulders. “I dunno. I’m not one of the scientists. I’m a Mechanical Engineer. But what I can say is that the station… odd as it sounds… reacts to highly developed sentient life. We don’t know how, but it… the station itself that is… seems to like and dislike people as individuals. But things without that level of self-awareness seem not to bother it all. Hard to explain, actually. But I’m sure the boss will fill you in. Do we have everyone? Or are we waiting for more?”

GM

OOC: I’m happy to join if this is where I’m supposed/needed to be.
Jenn

OOC: Please do.

Bethany followed along with the group. For the most part she appeared to be unarmed except for the standard type 2 phaser at her waist, though that would be an incorrect assumption. She admired the guards precision and accuracy with the nynat. She caught Calloway’s eye and grinned. She liked this place, and though caution and observation were called for she couldn’t help the surge of curiosity and itchy fingers at the idea of a semi sentient star base. She would love to get ahold of the computer and poke around. Bethany took up a position to the rear of the group, the better to keep an eye on their crew and what was in front of them. She walked along seemingly unconcerned but her senses were drawing in details and information. No doubt she would remember even the smallest little detail for later, unless she’d lost her touch.

Gadi, CoS

Paddy sidled up next to Gadi, following her eyeline, “Thinking about a transfer already?” He winked.

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

Bethy grinned at him. “Naw, I’m likin’ being on the Asimov. Just maybe, contemplatin’ a little side adventure.” Her Appalachian twang was coming out in her enthusiasm. “Try and maybe get more personable with the station. Not sure if the pain is worth the gain though. Maybe after it ‘welcomes’ us.” She wondered if a normal Betazoid could feel or read anything off the station.

Gadi CoS

Senek, who had thus far followed the group quietly, spoke now: “Perhaps we should focus on what exactly it is going to want us to do. Or say.” She really had no idea what to expect. The idea of a sentient station wasn’t completely absurd but it certainly wasn’t anything Senek had encounted before. “If it can ‘like’ and ‘dislike’ people, we should watch what we say around here.”

~ Lt Senek, CMO

The guard smiled at Senek and said “Oh, you can say whatever you want. It’s not like that at all. Its more like… it just has to get used to you. I’m sure the PM will explain it all to you guys. So follow me and stick close. Happy to answer questions on the way, though!” and he turned and took the lead. One guard inserted himself in the middle of the group, and the third guard took up position at the rear of the assembly. The began walking along the catwalk that seemed to be suspend in and by nothing… simply a metal structure hovering in the darkness.

They walked for almost ten minutes along the catwalk. Five minutes in, the Asimov and her lights could no longer be seen at all. “So this is the main hangar bay.” the lead guard began. “Near as we can tell, it should be about three hundred and sixty five to three hundred and seventy meters high, around five hundred meters across, and about 6 kilometers long. That’s judging off the outside of the station and the thickness of the walls. We can’t measure in here for some reason. Seriously weird part of this place. You can come in from the outside with two metal rulers cut to 50 centimeters, right? Outside the hangar you measure one against the other, and they are exactly the same length. In here? One could be 20 centimeters and the other a meter and a half. Go outside? 50 centimeters on the nose. Come back in? The 20 centimeter one is now 50 centimeters again and the other is 3 centimeters. The red light you see is given off by the station itself, but only where living beings are. Interesting side note, the nynats don’t cause the lights to come on. Thats why we always come in here armed. Anyway.... thats why we all call the Hangar of Weirdness. Scanning and exploration in here is done only in large groups, and we tie off to the rally points. Few years back four scientists went to the floor and tried to map the place. No idea what happened to them, they just up and vanished. We found all their gear… including their clothes. Only thing to vanish was their physical bodies. Down to the skin cells on the clothes. Just… poof. Ah, here we are.” he said as they approached a large silvery-metal door set into the black crystal wall. As they approached, the door irised open from the center. “Watch your step coming through. Tholians float, so they didn’t mind the door jambs.” and he stepped through and gestured for everyone to follow, reminding everyone to stay close as they came through.

Unlike the hangar, the passageway they stepped into was brightly lit and seemed to be made of the same silvery metal as the door. The passage was very wide, almost thirty meters across, and there was some kind of track system in the middle of the floor. “Ok, so here we are. Transit modules will be here momentarily. This place is huge, so don’t try and walk it. We actually have a yearly marathon in one section, and we never turn a corner. Straight shot passageway that runs about fifty kilometers.” As he spoke two large, white, flat oval cars arrived. There was seating for everyone between the two, and the guard motioned everyone in and to be seated. With one guard in the lead car and two in the trailing one, the lead guard pulled a small device from his belt and began talking… and everyone could hear him as clearly as if he were standing next to him.

“So… anyone have any questions? I’m no tour guide, but I’ve lived here quite a while. So hit me with what you got, and if I can answer I will.”
