side sim - When to be Concerned

Posted Sept. 24, 2021, 7:02 p.m. by Lieutenant Commander Bethany Kovra Gadi (Chief of Security) (Jennifer Ward)

“Alright 2 laps, the whole ship. Take the access ladders in the jefferies tubes junctions. No turbolifts. You need to be familiar on how to move around the ship, whether we have full power or not. Emergencies don’t just happen in the corridors and main locations around the ship.” Her crew took off, some jogging at a steady pace, others making a race out of it. Asimov might be small, but they would learn as she increased the laps and changed the order that steady endurance was more important. Bethany couldn’t outmatch some of the faster ones in a dead sprint, but she had a longer endurance than all of them, except for a few. Gadi followed behind them to observe and keep an eye on the stragglers. Sometimes it was laziness, sometimes it was because this kind of activity wasn’t where their physical strength lay.

It was obvious that in this case it was the later. It was the breathing that was getting them. No one had taken the time to teach them how to breath properly while their body demanded increased oxygen intake. She stayed with them for the entire run, even though her own heart rate was already increasing, urging her to increase her speed and lengthen her stride. Two laps of every deck, and climbing up and down the tubes got them all a solid work out. “Alright walk two laps around this deck and then mandatory stretching.”

“I bet the chief is gonna make us do yoga,” one officer mumbled. “Can’t stand that stuff, who can actually do that?” Bethany snorted, “Yeah no, Xylic, you don’t get off so easy. Nope, we’ll be doing Andorian weapons stretches. Don’t cut yourself.”

Two hours later, Bethany was walking the decks, doing her own rounds. Light jogging alternating with walking. Her heart rate still wouldn’t come down. She could feel it, racing for no reason, when her body should, for the most part, be at rest. This particular day, instead of a solid hour of Vulcan meditation, she went to sickbay. Something was wrong. Maybe it was too much coffee?

Walking into sickbay she looked around and grabbing the attention of the first nurse that passed. “Is the doc available? My heart rate is elevated and won’t come down.”
