The twins were getting bigger and more developed at what felt to their mother like an alarming rate. Of course it was only natural for a Ktarian child of 4 months to resemble a human child of 12 months, but it was still alarming to Allison, who had never raised a half-Ktarian child before. And so here she was in Sickbay with two feisty toddlers, trying to keep them both calm while also waiting for the doctor to be ready to see them.

Senek checked the waiting area to see if anyone was there, to find a woman and two children (what was with this ship and children?) waiting. “I am Doctor Senek, I’ll be seeing you today,” she said, gesturing the woman and twins back towards one of the biobeds. “What is the reason for your visit?”

“Well, babies need regular check-ups as they grow to make sure they’re healthy. This is Sophie, and this is Kasper,” she gestured to each in turn. They sat at her feet on a small mat, each holding a few little teething toys. When the Doctor gestured, Allison scooped up the twins and carried them over to the biobed, gently depositing them onto the bed before sitting down between them. “They’re Ktarian/Human hybrids, and today they’re 4 months old.”

They certainly didn’t look like 4-month old humans, but if Senek knew about Ktarian development, it wouldn’t be surprising that they resembled 1 year-olds.
