As the shuttle team exited and made their way to the hatch, the storm raged around them but near them. Soon, the hatch opened and a ladder led down into darkness.

Inside the Klingon ship, all was quiet. And dark. And cold. It served as a reminder of just how fragile life was in space. As they made their way through the darkened passages, signs of the life that had once been a part of the ship were all around. Bodies sat or lay frozen solid at stations or tables… on beds or in chairs… all Klingons. It was then the Security officer held up clenched fist, the sign for everyone to halt. “Contact. Power signature, Lieutenant Martel. But it’s… weird. And really faint.”

The scanner on the arm of the Security Ensign did indeed show a power source, but it was very faint and fluctuating as if it was beginning to power down. The signal came from the medical section.

Nurse Bailey looked at her own readouts and then watched the team, waiting for directions. She hadn’t anticipated needing to do much more than assist if anyone on their side was injured…and she wasn’t sure her Klingon anatomy wasn’t a tad rusty.

Coming to a quick halt and scanning the area, Vidreg then checked his own scans against the schematic to confirm the NEs readings. “Looks like it’s coming from medical. I don’t like separating a team this small, Lt., But it’s your call,” he said to Martel. “If medical had a power source still running there was probably a reason why. Either to keep something alive or contained if main power went out. Did we bring any back up power, just in case?” He hated to have such a doomsday outlook, but too much was weird and dangerous around this nebula.

Doing as he was told, Paddy double checked the seals on his mag boots and stepped off the shuttle, almost instantly feeling the artificial gravity weighing him to the ground around them. Paddy made sure to keep an eye out for any distressed members of the station’s crew, but couldn’t see much due to the lack of lighting.

Miranda considered for a moment. They had sarium-krellide power sources in their weaponry, but they weren’t great for anything more than temporary power. If they’d taken one of the Azzie’s shuttles they could have hooked it’s power plant into whatever failing system was in medical. But the station shuttle? That was alien to her. The station people might know more about it. “We just have our toolkits, suit systems, and the power packs in our phasers and such. Nothing like what you have in mind. We might see if we can get their power plant up and running. We’ve got to hit engineering anyway, so…” She gestured for them to proceed. “Once we figure out that, we can figure out our next steps. Though now I’m wishing we’d brought a mini generator or at least a micro fusion reactor.”

((So sorry for the delay y’all. Been under the weather, and unable to write. Didn’t think I’d need an LOA, but probably should have taken one. Many apologies. - Sam H.))

Ridad nodded with an easy smile and confidence, “You’re the boss.” He looked back at the ensign and waved him forward and then back at the team at the rear of the group. “You heard the Chief, Engineering it is. Let’s move, and stay together.” Ridad moved forward, his eyes scanning and rifle ready. If there was still power that could mean a very angry and very disoriented Klingon or more might take them for hostiles.

Inside her helmet Bailey clicked her tongue. If someone was in medical it was possible they were hurt or injured and if power there failed…the nurse didn’t like the idea that they had potentially let someone go unaided. She opened her mouth but then considered they had no way of know what it was or a way to power any life support systems…engineering was their best bet. she’s sighed and followed on.

Paddy stuck to Bailey where he could, “Nurse Bailey, if you’d like, you and I can do a runaround, see if we can find anyone that might need our help.”

Ridad heard the counselor, “No one splits up till we sweep the ship, Lt. SOP. If it becomes necessary to do so, NE Hestion will go with you. But trust me, if there’s hurt, hungry, and irritable Klingons on board, you really don’t want to meet them in the dark with the power off. Allies or not. I promise to get you there as soon as possible.” Hestion was a big guy, bulging muscles and an expert in zero G hand to hand combat, it’s why Ridad had pulled him for this assignment. Something wasn’t quite right out here. Maybe it was the station or the nebula chipping away at Ridad, but one didn’t survive as a security officer in Star Fleet without listening to their gut.

The comms in their suits crackled to life and the voice of their pilot could be heard. =/\= I see y’all heading to main engineering. Solid. Go slow. And remember… the nebula is gonna smack that wreck around like a Bolian pinata if you power it up. Just get your cloaking device and come back. =/\=

It was at that same moment that, as they got just close enough, the readings in the Medical Section became more clear and showed a single, faint life sign…

A human one.
