It wasn’t shifting out of character for her to snort. Knowing her second child though, there was no way in hell they would have… no, definitely not. “You removed a itty bitty implant from her brain stem after the Atlantis rescued her half-dead from her shuttle. That implant… nasty piece of work the Tal Shiar thought would be full of shits and giggles. I know… I was there when they put it in.” Multiple clues, bombs, whatever they would be Shara knew either now or later it would make for a really interesting conversation. Besides her and Micah were the elders on this ship and it was nice to have someone her age to converse with. They were in vastly different places in their lives than the young things who had just graduated the Academy or, in sone cases, just getting their next promotion. Shara and Ryley were done with promotions. They meant nothing, signified yes a long career but were not a marker of the person they were.

His eyebrows knitted together. With his eyes on her hand he continued to examine her injuries as the wheels in his head cycled through her words and his memories. “You’re Faye’s Mommy dearest?” He asked eventually as the information clicked into place.

Shara only barely managed to hide the wince as her gently manipulated her hand. “In the flesh.”

He looked up then. “Well Mother Calloway, you have three fractured metacarpal heads. Now while metacarpal fractures are fairly common, this type are relatively uncommon from accidental injury. Usually they result from a direct blow, crush injury, or projectile. Normally I’d say it was a fist fight, since during an altercation, a metacarpal head fracture can be sustained when the patient strikes someone or something with a closed fist.”

“Sounds about right.”

Gently he ran his finger tips along the bruising on her injured knuckles. “But…you don’t seem to have any other injuries I’d associate with a fight, and given the slight skin abrasions I’d say either this is the best living case of ‘you should see the other guy’ or…” he released her hand “…you went to town on a punch bag somewhere.”

Mirth touched her eyes. “The former sounds like a way better story than taking out all my frustrations on an inanimate object rather than a person. I know… disappointing. I liked the other story too.”

The corners of his mouth curled upwards. “I won’t tell if you don’t.” He said in a stage whisper feigning confidentially.

Calloway looked around and frowned before taking in Ryley. “Since you’re on your feet and looking bored as hell, can you do a gal a solid and patch me up? Then I can get back to scaring the kids, and then maybe later I can repay the favour and rescue you from here? It’s a tiny ship, not many places to go, but… I have my ways.”

He turned to look around the sickbay then as well and back at her. “Sure.” He shrugged. “Doesn’t look like they are getting to you any time soon.” He said and took another look around before, gripping his leg again and using the furniture as support he made his way to a trolley of instruments which he rummaged around in a moment then over to the hypospray loader and began fiddling with some vials.

She watched him move with a critical eye, knowing the cause.

He was back with a hypo and two regenerators. “You allergic to any meds or treatments?” He asked holding the hypo spray up and squinting at it slightly as he adjusted the dosage.

“Nah, not something I’ve ever worried about,” Shara said. “I’ve been fortunate that way, unlike whomever didn’t take to the cosmetic mods. Man I lived in those things for years at a time. Was kind of hard to do my work without them,” she said, flashing a grin.

“I think it’s a reaction to the mild sedative they gave him because he was freaking out about his brother not recognising him or something not the cosmetic meds themselves. But like I said apparently I’m not cleared to help so…” he shrugged and brought the hypo to her neck. “I’m giving you Terakine, it’s a mild pain reliever that works good on broken bones and fractures. Should kill the pain fairly fast and last about five hours, you’ll probably need another dose then and it should be good after that. If a bit stiff for a few days.”

“Fair enough. I don’t intend to be punching anything further. At least not anytime soon.”

He switched the hypo with the regenerator with well practiced ease without looking down for it and turned the beam onto her hand. Carefully he worked it a few times along each break and then started again. “So how is Faye these days anyway?” He asked as he worked.

Answering meant slipping entirely out of character and normally she would never allow that. But this was different and they were alone. And so Shara allowed the utter pride and awe to show in her voice. “Better than anyone I’ve ever seen who has tackled the trauma and situations she has. Just got married too.”
