“I am Impressive,” Calloway said without any arrogance at all, just the knowing of a person who rarely felt the need to undersell herself. “I figured a house call would have to be something of an extraordinary circumstance. That or you’d have to actually like the person, and I understand that’s a rare phenomenon too,” she said, flashing a grin before switching back to the green drink. She sucked the good off the end of the celery before chomping off the very end and then twirling the vegetable between her fingers.

“There have been the rare occasions.” He admitted. He watched her with the celery. “So…moonshine makes for good training? Have you alerted anyone about this? I’d be up for a study in worker efficiency. I mean if the pirates of old were able to do so much full of rum and opium who are we to question their ways.”

His mind drifted to the recently filled, unused, hypo that was in his desk. His leg gave a throb as he suppressed the urge as if it understood his thought processes.

She watched him keenly as she alternated between drinks, making a good go of getting it all down and hopefully to feeling better sooner rather than later. “Well… I don’t normally keep shine around, but I have a supplier on hand as it turns out. I wasn’t intending to be sharing it as much as I did, but well, the opportunity arose to put that damn meeting far out of my mind and when others showed it it became a party.” She shrugged. “Teaching lessons just sort of happened. Wasn’t planned, I assure you. But I do make the most of my opportunities when I have them. They can be very fleeting.”

Commander Calloway, CIO

He listened, arms folded, “So where was my invite?” He asked, content to Watching her drink. “Am I going to have to seek remedial lessons?”

Shara snorted. “Give me a few days at least before I break out another jar. Wouldn’t want to be accused of abusing my body. But how about a rain check on that and in the meantime we do the coffee thing? I could use a good cup of it after this junk,” she said, eyeing her dual drinks and then looking back up at Ryley. “Not that I’m not super appreciative, ‘cause I am. I’ll be back up and scaring the kids in no time thank to your help.”

Commander Calloway, CIO

He smirked. “I’ll send you the bill.” He replied and then limped off to put the tray and materials away. He was back after a few minutes of this, giving her time to rest alone.

The quiet allowed her steady herself and as much as Shara hated to admit it, the drinks were sort of helping. If nothing else the dehydration was getting better. So was the nausea. Crossing her legs on the biobed Shara just allowed herself to exist for the time being.

“Coffee then…if you’re up for it?”

Her eyes slipped open. “Yeah, coffee would be good.” Slipping off the biobed, she downed the last of the green drink, gave him a thumbs’ up with another flash of a faux smile and recycled her two glasses.

He said nothing, simply raised an eyebrow and followed.

Shara was quiet as they made their way to the mess hall, though she shot one crewmember they passed with a look and said nothing. Back in character. Though who this Elaine person was was a mystery to everyone else and in that allowed a lot of leeway. Shara turned on the ball of her foot as they entered, walking backwards, with full awareness of where she and everyone else was. “Take anything in your coffee?”

Commander Calloway, CIO

The walk was interesting, the greying Doctor taking in the reactions of the crew and of the looks exchanged. In the mess hall he spoke finally. “No, just black.”

“Easiest and best. Grab a good seat,” Calloway said as she beelined for the replicator. The one downside to such a small ship is that the replicators were few and far between. That didn’t bother her, but it made dining with privacy difficult. Then again, with their mission currently romantic dinners with her husband were going to be a no-go.

She was still hungover, but most people couldn’t tell. That was the point. Still, her head hurt and the warmth from the coffee seeped through the mugs into her hands as she carried them over to the table. Shara slid one to Ryley and gave him an appraising look.

Ryley was half turned in his seat in a hushed conversation with the NE sitting behind the table he had chosen for them, an amused sort of expression on his face. The NE looked embarrassed as the doctor spoke and glanced down at his lap quickly then back up again, colour flooding his cheeks. Ryley gave him a sort of ‘there you have it’ look and a clap on the shoulder before turning back to Calloway and taking the coffee he was offered. After a moment of stunned silence the NE got up quietly and left, slightly bow legged.

Holding the mug in his hands Ryley stared at the liquid for a second or so then brought it to his mouth and smelled it before taking the first drink, which he rolled around his mouth before swallowing. He returned her look with one of his own. “What?” He asked
