Calloway matched the grin. “Oh no, you’re on my good side, see? It’s fine… for now. Actually, the fun part is keeping them guessing. I’ve been doing so much scowling lately, that when I do smile, it creeps them out.” She sipped on her coffee, leaning back in her chair.

He seemed to find this amusing. “I keep antidote on me anyway.” He said and then Added looking reminiscent “ you know I knew a guy, during one of my stints in Division 14 which I’m probably not allowed to talk about with anyone without your kinda clearance, anyway this guy was determined not to smile ever unless he was inflicting punishment on his subordinates. Great plan but not something he could pull off. He was fairly jovial looking in general. Kinda like Santa”

He drank. “He ended up looking like a toddler having a tantrum.”

Shara snorted. “Ahh, the fun part of having my kind of clearance really is all the weird random stories you find out. Sometimes I think that’s what makes it worth it. Some days.”

“Hmmph.” He replied.

Her eyes turned intense for a moment and Shara debated whether to say anything or not. But then again, this was Alexxander Ryley and she recognized something of herself in him. Too smart for their own good. Trouble seemed to find them. And had a weird sense of honour and justice. Actually, if anything, Ryley reminded her of her daughter Faye. “Memory is a funny thing. A certain mutual friend of ours still has some rather interesting memory issues though. But something might have shifted,” she said, her eyes lighting up.

He watched her, his expression stoic. “Go on.” He said taking another drink.

It was important that she be discreet and anything she said not make sense to the casual eavesdropper. Not that anyone was around right now for that to be an issue, but after being an intelligence field agent for so long Shara had what she deemed to be a healthy paranoia. It kept her and others alive and that made all the difference.

She sipped her drink and nodded slowly. “It was not controllable before, which you saw, but by the time her next assignment arose she had kept it at bay. Now though it seems like there might be more control over the appearance too, not just the suppression.” Faye’s worst mind dumps looked like a painful seizure and so Shara had bene glad that her daughter had been able to prevent them from happening. But this new development in being able to consciously allow it to happen was fascinating.

“Of course, such news would be fascinating to those that like information, but they aren’t being kept in this particular loop for obvious reasons,” Shara said.
