As instructed, Bethany went about her day as normal. She drank way too much coffee, participated in PT, had a private hand to hand class with Ridad, did weapons checks of the phasers and other weapons they had taken on board, did a few hours on the bridge, and of course that morning she’d reprogrammed ‘Jack’.

After her shift she went to shower and changed because well, Bethany didn’t like walking around in rumbled, sweaty, dirty clothes unless she had to. She donned a billowing black cotton capris that tightened with a tie below her knees, and a cinnamon colored sleeveless button up blouse. Then at exactly 1730 Bethany walked into sickbay spotted Ryley and spoke to a nurse. “Tell the doc I’m here for our date.”

Gadi, CoS

Sickbay in the intervening hours since Bethany had left had had a bit of a reorganisation. The two biobeds now had stock’s of equipment on shelving underneath them, with a tray awaiting use. The permanent table covering seemed to have been replaced with something that looked more leather based and slightly less padded. It too had been stocked. The light level had been changed too to a slightly less bright setting with a slight tinge of blue. Any spare furniture had been moved out of the space and put god knows where. Medicines and what looked like bottles of various booze from across the federation took up space on some shelves and work surfaces.

On hearing Bethany, Poor Nurse Bailey blinked rapidly and dropped the tray she was carrying. Quickly she stopped to pick it up and nodded. “Uhh yes sure…he’s over there.” She said pointing to the center table where Ryley appeared to be fixing the holdings of some leather straps to the underside of the biobed with a tool. a small shower of sparks lit up from his work for a second.

Interior Design Doc

Bethany knelt down and helped Bailey pick up the things she had dropped. “Sorry Nurse, didn’t mean to startle you.” Oh that one was going to need looking after in the weeks to come. Bethany stood up and looked around, she liked it, fitting, real…questionable. She made her way over to where Ryley was working and watched for a moment. “Leather straps?” She grinned wickedly, “Nice, thought I’m not sure we know each other well enough…I like the decor, Doc. You ready for our date?”

Gadi, CoS

The doctor finished attaching his straps and gave them a few tugs for good measure. He gave a short chuckle. “Yeah leather straps are kinda a third date thing don’t you think? I thought if we were going pirate then we may as well look more the part.”

“Absolutely. So next time, right?” She grinned but then looked around with a serious eye. “Fits the part, glad to see someone else is taking this seriously. It’s not just the exterior and the bridge that has to look the part.”

He stepped back to review his handiwork then looking at Bethany patted the leather table top he stood by. “Hop up.” He took a hypo from the pocket of his jeans. “So how much coffee did we have today?”

Ryley
MD

Bethany hopped up onto the biobed. “Not nearly enough. I think I ended at 6 travel mugs for today.”

Gadi, CoS

“Well when I said knock yourself out I didn’t mean literally knock yourself out with it.” He held the hypo up and checked it.

Bethany shrugged with a grin. She had weeks of missed coffee to make up for.

“Ok so, this will sit under the skin and transmit the data to this.” He picked up a PaDD and waved it. “So we can record your vitals as you go about the days whatever. How’d today on the meds do?”

Ryley
MD

Bethany gave it serious thought, “Better. I still felt…out of breath off and on. And I know my pulse was high, but it didn’t feel as bad as it had been. It took over two hours for my rate to settle after our PT runs today, but that was better than not coming down at all.”

Gadi

He nodded as if this was to be expected. “Could try adjusting the dose after we see what info we get.” He tapped his own neck tilting his head to one side. “Ready when you are.”

Ryley
MD

“Whatever you think is best.” She tipped her head to the side and smirked a bit waving at the hypo as permission. “You seem a bit fixated on my neck, Doc. Something I should know?”

Gadi, CoS

Ryley smirked as he administered the hypo. “Vampire in a past life, weird preference of administration point for hypos, easiest placement for the device to work, personal kink…you pick.” He busied himself with the PaDD and began checking the signals were being received.

Bethany eyed him in total mock horror, “Oh gods you weren’t one of those retro 20th century goth kids that dressed all in black and pretended to be ‘children of the night’ were you? Cause if you were I might have to stop talking to you, and that would be the disappointment of the year. So we’ll go with personal kink.” Bethany stretched her neck from side to side and resisted the urge to rub at her neck. “It’s a bit…scratchy. Is that normal or am I imagining things? I mean I’ll admit I’m a bit stressed out by this whole thing.”

Gadi, CoS

“It’s normal. It’ll fade in an hour or so as the implant properly embeds.” He opened his mouth to say something further when the sound caught his ears. He turned and his expression sobered from the wise cracking grinning to a slightly thunderous look. His body tensed and the grip on his cane became more pronounced.

Bethany wasn’t so disturbed by the medical revelation that the sudden change in Ryley didn’t catch her attention. Her hand twitched slightly and a type 1 personal phaser dropped into her waiting palm. Just as quickly her gaze followed his to the sound of steps accompanied by a cane.

“Personal kink sounds right…” A gravelly voice sounded. “He always was a dirty old man.” The words were accompanied by the tapping of a cane on the deck plates, as Tolar Zareth entered the Sickbay. His antennae curled inward as he chuckled. The Andorian flashed a wry grin at Ryley as he approached.

“Well well well, look what the targ dragged in.” He said, his jaw clenched. “Figures, Intelligence and intrigue and a whole bloody mess, should have known you’d be skulking around somewhere. Get the hell out of my sickbay.” He swooped his own cane up and pointed it at the door.

Bethany gaze landed on the seeming intruder. Andorian with a cane, older, would be a blue science uniform. Name: Lt Cmdr Tolar Zareth, Association: intel and medical background, Last known assignment: USS Europa, Current assignment: stuck with this rag tag group as their chief science officer. Bethany glanced from the new comer to Ryley and back sighed. She was the chief of security and in charge of ship’s safety. She hopped off the bio bed, “Alright this is what we’re gonna do. Take a lesson from my uncles. You two can end this nicely, or you can fight till one of you can’t get up. The winner takes me to dinner.”

Gadi, CoS

Zareth’s grin tightened and grew serious, then twisted into a grimace. The Andorian spat a few guttural sounding syllables, obviously not federation english. Perhaps his native tongue.

Ryley spat back a retort in the same language that was quickly cut off…

Then, with surprising speed, his cane whirled across and impacted Ryley’s own with a loud CLACK as he swung it like a weapon… As soon as the impact happened, the Andorian was already moving again. He used the momentum of his own blow to launch his other fist at Ryley’s face, his footwork bringing him inside the man’s guard in a manner that belied intensive combat training.

Tightening his grip on his own cane at the last second saved it from coming out of his hand on impact. The movement was fast, he was out of practice and with limited time managed to clench his jaw and tilt back enough to deflect some of the blow as the fist hit him square on the jaw. His head moved hard to the side cracking his neck and aggravating the healing dislocation of his shoulder from the Klingon bar fight. He hissed through his teeth. In return while his opponent was close in proximity he brought his good knee up sharply towards the man’s abdomen and spun side ways spinning his cane in his hand he brought the heavier side down to roughly where the man’s head should be.

OOC: (SORRY!!!! Old habits and all… NOT trying to steal Ryley’s job! lol)

Zareth twisted his body roughly to avoid taking Ryley’s knee in his gut, instead causing a glancing blow to his hip. (Which sent waves of agony through the permanently damaged nerve endings in his right leg.) This motion also saved Zareth from being brained on the noggin by Ryley’s cane. The Andorian growled a curse as the opposing cane landed where his neck and shoulder met. He winced for half a second before leaning hard away from Ryley while grabbing and yanking a handful of the man’s sleeve, trying to throw the Doctor off balance and to the floor with his own momentum.
