“First off, let me start by apologising for what I said during our pre-mission briefing, I totally misread the situation and for that I apologise, I already spoke to your husband to apologise to him as well… I think he took it well.” Paddy shuffled awkwardly for a moment.

Arms still folded across her chest, Shara gazed at him, though the hardness was gone. “Well, the fact that spoke to Micah and are still standing bodes well for you I guess.”

Drawing in a deep breath, Shara let her lungs fully expand. There was something reassuring about feeling the strain against her ribs and it allowed her an extra moment to consider what to say to this man. “I don’t trust you. And that’s a problem, especially given the issues I deal with. One I’m not sure how to go about fixing or if we can.”

Paddy remained standing, not wanting to aggravate Shara more than he already had, ‘What is it about me you don’t trust Commander?’

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

“Look, Lieutenant, I’ve been around a long time and I’ve been through a lot. I’ve dealt with my share of counsellors and I’m not opposed to working with them. In fact, it’s because of the work they helped lead me through that I got to a good enough place that I could even entertain reuniting with my daughter, Faye. But a lot happened in the last while and I’m re-doing a bunch of that work. It’s not quite starting from scratch but I’m having to rebuild what was torn down prior to coming to the Asimov. During our first meeting I got the impression that you weren’t quite sure how to help me. And that’s okay. There could be lots of reasons for that. But the fact that you also didn’t realize what was going on in that meeting room and that you of all people delivered a verbal punch to my face, well, you can apologize all you like but it creates a situation where I don’t feel comfortable entrusting my mental health to you.” Shara wasn’t trying to be hurtful either. She was being honest about the limitations of her trust and how that was going to impact her own progress. But like Micah reminded her, they had each other. She wasn’t alone.

Paddy gestured at the chair next to him, “May I sit?”
