Sara sat in her ready room after the staff meeting. This assignment was going swimmingly so far. At least the crew seemed to agree on one thing; this whole undertaking was a bad idea, and a real mutiny sounded better. She sat, with plenty of work in front of her, not really able to do anything. Perhaps she had spoken too soon in the Special Projects offices when she accepted the mission. Maybe. Someone had to do it. The Captain pulled up an overview of the ship, and looked at all the changes they had made. Looks like we’re all out of uniform now.

Sara was pretty certain they could be convincing as pirates. They had to be. She couldn’t bear to think of what might happen if they blew their cover. She tried not to think about that possibility. One way or another, they’d have to get through this undetected.

Paddy thought it best to do one last check in with the crew before everything got completely underway. Leaving the Captain last was a deliberate decision, as McMillan knew that she’d need the most time to mull things over. The bridge still had the same layout, despite all the changes made to make the Asimov look like a true pirate ship, so Paddy crossed the bridge and tapped the door chime.

Sara hadn’t been expecting visitors. She half expected to find the crew had all taken off in runabouts and escape pods. “Come in.” She called, sincerely hoping it wasn’t one of their resident spies.

-CO

Paddy could be found tossing a small hunting knife up and down in his hand when the doors parted, he grinned and placed it in an old leather scabbard at his side, “Captain, thought it would be prudent to do one final pre-mission session with you before we get underway. How’re you finding everything of late?”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counselor-

“Come in, counselor. Have a seat.” Sara gestured to a chair on the other side of her desk. “I don’t think anyone is truly prepared for this. But the frayed nerves, rough edges, obvious tension… it may not be an immediate detriment. The stress may come from a different place than we’re claiming, but it’s the same thing.”

-CO

“The stress seems to be isolated between Lieutenants Dacascos and Calloway thus far, if I didn’t know better,” Paddy grinned, “I’d say they were getting far too into character.”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counselor-

“Far too into character indeed. Have you spoken with them? Maybe set a little of that to rest for now?” Sara asked, hoping slightly in vain that at least one pressing problem would just vanish.

-CO

-bump-

“You’re probably aware,” Paddy said with an awkward scratch of the back of his head, “That I may have got onto the wrong foot with Commander Calloway and Agent Pikelsimer?”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counselor-

“I did notice that, yes.” Sara chuckled a little. “Have you settled that, or are you still on the outs?”

-CO

“If my counselling experience has taught me anything ma’am, I think I need to just sit down and apologise, you and I both know it was never my intention to offend.”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counselor-

“Of course not, counselor.” Sara nodded gently. “I’d appreciate it if you’d give it a try. It’d be good to get everyone on something resembling the same page.”

-CO

OOC: I’m so sorry I totally forgot about this thread! Happy to keep going if you are?

-Kieron-

OOC: No worries. It happens. I’m definitely down to continue.

Paddy sighed, “I’ll do what I can ma’am, but I feel like I’m in over my head, I’ve been thinking about getting advice from people who seem close to Commander Calloway, Doctor Ryley for instance.”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counselor-

Sara waved dismissively. Her opinions of Dr Ryley as a physician and as a person were miles apart. “If you can get through to him, be my guest. Commander Calloway is a very reasonable and intelligent person. This mission has a lot of personal connection for her, on top of the preexisting stress of being the Intelligence Officer responsible for dragging our sorry asses through a covert mission. Empathize with her. Everything will shake out okay.”

-CO

“Oh aye, getting through to the good Doctor should be easy given my track record,” Paddy chuckled nervously.

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counselor-

“I’m sure it will.” Sara offered him a wry smile. “Do you have any pre-pirate visits to make?”

-CO

“I think a trip to the galley wouldn’t go a miss cap’n,” Paddy said, laying the pirate accent on thick.

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counselor-

Sara chuckled. “Aye.” She mimicked the accent. Returning her voice to normal, she said “You’re going to have your work cut out for you before this mission is over, counselor. Make sure to take some rest before we go undercover.”

-CO

“Normally I’m the one advising people to rest before a mission like this ma’am,” Paddy said with a chuckle, “But it is advice I will take, and extend to you, nonetheless.”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counselor-

“I’ll do my best.” Sara forced a smile. “Never thought I’d miss all the mundane crap. But I do right now. It’s the little bits of stability, I guess. But if I never had to write another report for an admiral to not read again… there’d be worse fates.”

-CO

“I don’t envy you having control of the centre chair at the moment, ma’am.” Paddy returned the smile, trying to make his look less awkward.
