With everything that was going on and the chaos of his recent promotion, Mwezi felt like it was time for a visit to the Counsellor. He didn’t generally enjoy talking about his feelings, but it was probably a good idea. He stepped up to the room on the Pelican that functioned as Paddy’s temporary office and thumped his fist against the wall right beside the door, knocking. While he stood there, a hand lifted to idly tug at his right ear - particularly the empty place where two earrings had previously hung.

Paddy McMillan was only now starting to feel calmer about the mission, to the point where he could begin to perform psychological evaluations of the crew again, despite the slight adjustments made to the ‘Pelican‘ as part of this mission. The slightly more intimate space had both advantages and disadvantages depending on the patient, but Paddy was hopeful that his latest client, Commander Mwezi, would prove to be an interesting conversation both within and without the context of the mission. He smiled as he answered the door, “Evening Commander, come in. Can I get you anything to drink before we get underway?”
-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-
“Some water would be appreciated,” Mwezi replied, giving the man a quick nod as he stepped through the door. He couldn’t remember what sort of person McMillan was, they hadn’t interacted too much other than a quick on-boarding evaluation almost a year ago. He could make some inferences based on the fact that the man was a Counsellor, but other than that, “Paddy” was entirely a stranger. Mwezi had a thoughtful expression on his face, furrowing his brows slightly as he waited for the water and glanced around the room. The furrowing was intentional, as facial expressions were not natural to his species, simply a habit he’d picked up from being among humans for so long. It made conversations a little smoother.

Giving a polite nod and crossing to the replicator, Paddy began the process, “So, how do you feel the mission is going thus far?”
-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-
Mwezi sat and considered the question for a moment. “I suppose its going well enough. I’ve noticed some dissent and anger among some crewmembers in the meeting about the hit on the passenger liner, but I’ve only been XO for a day so I’ve only just begun to pay attention to, well, the people. I mostly stayed in my own lane when I was a security officer. Tried to live out my life as someone who didn’t really leave an impact.” He didn’t really belong in this time and place, so it hadn’t seemed right to make a big impression. Not that he could explain that particular aspect of his existence to the Counsellor.

“Would you say that ‘staying in your own lane’ is a common thing that happens with Security Officers in Starfleet?”
-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-
“Perhaps, perhaps not.” Mwezi shrugged. “I think what I mean is that I did my job and I did it well, but I wasn’t particularly active in the social aspects of life on a Starship.”

“Would you say there is a chance that will change now you have become first officer of this ship? A lot of XOs do say that they feel as though they become some sort of father figure when they take on the role?”
-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-
“I would say it has to change, even though it’s not what my intentions were when I joined the Asimov. One of the jobs of an Executive Officer is to be a liaison between the Department Heads and the Captain, as well as to understand the mood of the crew. I will need to be out of my quarters a lot more. I am uncertain how much of a ‘parent’ I will feel… it is hard to form familial bonds with humanoids.” Mwezi replied, considering it in almost an academic manner. He let out a small sigh, briefly scratching his ear. This would be much easier to explain if the man knew that the true reason why he’d tried to be low impact before this sudden promotion had nothing to do with being antisocial. “Tell me, Lt. McMillan, what do you know of my history?”

[OOC: Mwezi has, basically, two biographies in his records, depending on your character’s security status. Captain and Intelligence officers get access to the classified files (his real bio), because it has info regarding alternate timelines and highly classified missions. His non-classified (fake) bio says that he grew up on a small colony world, attended Starfleet Academy with mediocre but passable grades, and served as a junior security officer on several ships, being tossed from one place to another until he ended up on the Azzie.]
