With everything that was going on and the chaos of his recent promotion, Mwezi felt like it was time for a visit to the Counsellor. He didn’t generally enjoy talking about his feelings, but it was probably a good idea. He stepped up to the room on the Pelican that functioned as Paddy’s temporary office and thumped his fist against the wall right beside the door, knocking.

While he stood there, a hand lifted to idly tug at his right ear - particularly the empty place where two earrings had previously hung.

Mwezi, XO

Paddy McMillan was only now starting to feel calmer about the mission, to the point where he could begin to perform psychological evaluations of the crew again, despite the slight adjustments made to the ‘Pelican‘ as part of this mission. The slightly more intimate space had both advantages and disadvantages depending on the patient, but Paddy was hopeful that his latest client, Commander Mwezi, would prove to be an interesting conversation both within and without the context of the mission. He smiled as he answered the door, “Evening Commander, come in. Can I get you anything to drink before we get underway?”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

“Some water would be appreciated,” Mwezi replied, giving the man a quick nod as he stepped through the door. He couldn’t remember what sort of person McMillan was, they hadn’t interacted too much other than a quick on-boarding evaluation almost a year ago. He could make some inferences based on the fact that the man was a Counsellor, but other than that, “Paddy” was entirely a stranger. Mwezi had a thoughtful expression on his face, furrowing his brows slightly as he waited for the water and glanced around the room. The furrowing was intentional, as facial expressions were not natural to his species, simply a habit he’d picked up from being among humans for so long. It made conversations a little smoother.

Mwezi, XO

Giving a polite nod and crossing to the replicator, Paddy began the process, “So, how do you feel the mission is going thus far?”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

Mwezi sat and considered the question for a moment. “I suppose its going well enough. I’ve noticed some dissent and anger among some crewmembers in the meeting about the hit on the passenger liner, but I’ve only been XO for a day so I’ve only just begun to pay attention to, well, the people. I mostly stayed in my own lane when I was a security officer. Tried to live out my life as someone who didn’t really leave an impact.” He didn’t really belong in this time and place, so it hadn’t seemed right to make a big impression. Not that he could explain that particular aspect of his existence to the Counsellor.

Mwezi, XO

“Would you say that ‘staying in your own lane’ is a common thing that happens with Security Officers in Starfleet?”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

“Perhaps, perhaps not.” Mwezi shrugged. “I think what I mean is that I did my job and I did it well, but I wasn’t particularly active in the social aspects of life on a Starship.”

Mwezi, XO

“Would you say there is a chance that will change now you have become first officer of this ship? A lot of XOs do say that they feel as though they become some sort of father figure when they take on the role?”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

“I would say it has to change, even though it’s not what my intentions were when I joined the Asimov. One of the jobs of an Executive Officer is to be a liaison between the Department Heads and the Captain, as well as to understand the mood of the crew. I will need to be out of my quarters a lot more. I am uncertain how much of a ‘parent’ I will feel… it is hard to form familial bonds with humanoids.” Mwezi replied, considering it in almost an academic manner. He let out a small sigh, briefly scratching his ear. This would be much easier to explain if the man knew that the true reason why he’d tried to be low impact before this sudden promotion had nothing to do with being antisocial. “Tell me, Lt. McMillan, what do you know of my history?”

Mwezi, XO

[OOC: Mwezi has, basically, two biographies in his records, depending on your character’s security status. Captain and Intelligence officers get access to the classified files (his real bio), because it has info regarding alternate timelines and highly classified missions. His non-classified (fake) bio says that he grew up on a small colony world, attended Starfleet Academy with mediocre but passable grades, and served as a junior security officer on several ships, being tossed from one place to another until he ended up on the Azzie.]
- Riley

OOC: I imagine Paddy to have typical like ‘Department Head’ Security Clearance, if Mwezi wants to clear Paddy to get access to it, that’s up to you and if you feel Paddy is trustworthy enough.

“I know you’re a man who grew up on a small colony world, you served as a Security Officer. Bouncing between ships must have been quite the experience? How did you feel when you were offered a promotion to XO?”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

Mwezi thought for a moment. “I have never truly felt at home in Starfleet. I came to space because I wanted to explore. I wished to see a world beyond my small planet,” he explained. “I did not realize how empty space is…” Mwezi stared at the wall.

“I had a few friends on my first ship in Starfleet. The Chief of Security had me assigned as a personal guard to the Captain, since he was always getting into scrapes that required someone who was very good as rescuing,” Mwezi smiled slightly, chuckling at the memory of Taggart. He wondered what the man had gotten up to in this version of reality. “The years I spent on that ship were a blessing. But, circumstances pulled me away and I, as you said, bounced between ships. I did not spend more than six months in one place until I joined the Asimov. The only constant I have had since leaving that first ship have been my Fiancées. The messages we sent back and forth kept me going. And now they have been told that I am a traitor to the Federation.”

“I was going to wait out this mission, and then I was planning on taking a leave of absence from Starfleet, to spend time with my beloveds, see their faces, and feel their joy and love mingling with my own. I was looking forward to actually experiencing another’s emotion again. But now I have greater responsibilities and while I am honoured and wish to carry out my new position to the best of my ability, I cannot help but feel some small anger and resentment towards…” He shrugged, unsure who or what was the target. “The Federation in general perhaps. This mission? I am uncertain.”

Mwezi, XO

“That feeling won’t last long Commander,” Paddy tried to give a reassuring smile, “As soon as this pirate business is over, I don’t see clearing our names being too difficult. You’ll be back with them before you know it.”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

Mwezi nodded. “I certainly look forward to the end of this mission. I will be doing my best to ensure it goes as smoothly as possible. So that ALL of the crew will be able to get back to their friends and loved ones.”

Mwezi, XO

“Hopefully everyone will be on the same page with each other as well, are you aware of the situation with myself and Commander Calloway?” Paddy didn’t want to turn this into a reverse counselling session, but thought it prudent for the XO to know what was going on between his crew.

-Lt. Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

Mwezi tilted his head, then gave it a small shake. “If it is relevant to my service as Executive Officer, it would be helpful to be informed. Otherwise, you are free to keep it to yourself.”

Mwezi, XO

“Let’s just say there was a slight… miscommunication between myself and the CIO, it shouldn’t affect the progress of our situation as it stands though. I’ll endeavour to keep you informed sir.”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

Mwezi nodded slightly. “Understood.” There was a short pause, then he spoke again. “Lt., I believe that there is some information it would be relevant for you to know, as the Counselor on board. It was not relevant when I was a mere Junior Officer, but now that I have become Executive Officer…” he trailed off slightly, looking at the wall behind Paddy.

“According to my service record, I have never held a position above Junior Officer. This is false. I began my time in space on the vessels of the IAF, and served as a Chief of Security for several years aboard my first vessel in Starfleet. Then I traveled in time. One cannot simply invent a history as a Chief of Security, so those in charge of Intelligence created a new record for me that did not include that particular fact.”

Mwezi, XO

Paddy blinked, taking a moment to take everything the XO had just said in, “I.. see.. And, uh, how far through time have you travelled?” McMillan suddenly realised that this could turn into a very long series of sessions.

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

Mwezi thought for a moment. “Approximately 130 years. I and my Fiancés… I suppose I could describe it as falling into a portal. It is a long story. We arrived in this timeline about three years ago. I am pained to be separated from them because of this mission…” His ears pulled back, his dark eyes seeming darker for a moment. “They are the only people I have.”

Mwezi, XO

“Forgive me Commander,” Paddy said, “But how does one exactly fall through a portal? And I take it your Fiances don’t know the nature of this mission either?”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

Mwezi scratched his neck, trying to figure out how to explain it. “Ah, my people did not develop instantaneous travel in the same way the federation did. Transporters, that is. The Interstellar Transporter is somewhat like a doorway one steps through. I am not well-versed on the exact mechanics. One of my Fiancèes, Kula, she was part of a research team developing a more efficient form of the I.T., and was lost through the portal. There was an accident and the research satellite was destroyed. Shilo and I, well.. they are a pilot. We got into a small craft and investigated, and found ourselves near the hull of a Federation vessel in this place and time. Kula had somehow ended up within the ship, thankfully, instead of in the vacuum of space.”

“As for the mission, they know no more than any of our loved ones. They may suspect based on their knowledge of myself as a person, but they will have been told of my betrayal of the Federation and my turn to piracy.”

Mwezi, XO

“I feel before our next session Commander,” Paddy said, formulating a plan on the fly in his head, “It will be proficient for me to… research the Interstellar Transporter, with your permission of course. Is there any data at all that I can access?”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

“I do not believe it is relevant to my mental health, but you are free to seek information on the Starfleet database. I believe much of the data regarding its operation is available in our computers, as Starfleet has apparently spent numerous decades attempting and failing to replicate the technology outside the local star cluster of the G-O-K Alliance. It does not function outside a specific region of space, so my people seem to have found no harm in releasing the information on how it functions.”

OOC: Yowza! Reply may tale a while, I have some reading to do!

-Kieron-

“This.... is a lot to take in,” Paddy admitted, “Do you mind if I take some time to look over all of the notes I have made and book yuo in for a second session.”
