The bridge operations station terminal beeped as the helm detected a warp signature on an intercept course. Sensors on the tactical and science station registered a Starfleet warp signature. Tactical sensors further showed that the vessel’s shields were raised.

The Asimov’s Navigator, Lieutenant Gavin Cooper, raised an eyebrow as he glanced at the Tactical readout on the Command Chair. Only his third Watch Officer shift since coming on board, the Officer was still getting use to the way things ran but was settling in well.

When Erin had gotten the memo for her first Duty Officer shift, she had ran to Gavin almost with a nervous breakdown. And when he had told her that he happened to be the Watch Officer for that particular shift, Erin thanked the universe for the coincidence. She had never been on bridge duty before and the stories that she had heard throughout the years scared her half to death.

He gazed over for just a second at the redhead on Science One, currently in her first shift as Science Duty Officer. He smiled at Hazen as her eyes turned to his. Cooper knew well that the next words out of his mouth would likely scare the girl to death but he had a job to do.

As soon as Hazen had seen the warp signature in her station, her eyes snapped to Cooper. His smile didn’t bring her any confidence whatsoever… if anything, it made it worse.

“Red Alert…” Cooper said flatly, causing the Bridge Crew to snap out of their daze and scramble to their posts. “… raise Shields, charge phasers and spin up tubes One through Four.”

Tapping the Comm Button on the Chair, he spoke calmly.

=A= Watch Officer Cooper to the Captain. Ma’am, we have a Federation starship… Starfleet IFF in bound to our location at high speed and shields up. I believe they may have someone in pursuit. Requesting your presence on the Bridge.=A=

Shields snapped into place, phasers and photon banks showing green as klaxons rang throughout the ship, the bridge lighting dimming, the familiar flash of red lights crisscrossing bridge stations.

The ship continued its approach. It would be within visual range in two minutes, weapons range within four.

As the klaxon’s rang and the red light flooded the Bridge, Erin felt nauseous. She was a scientist, not a soldier. After her short stint on the Dresden, when Hazen had applied to Starfleet, she had envisioned an opportunity for scientific research. Instead, she felt like she was doing her sister’s job. Was this her sister’s job?

Shaking her head to dismiss the thoughts running wild in her mind, Erin’s eyes snapped back to her console, her fingers pressing buttons trying to see if she could find out any kind of information on the signal that could give her more than just a Starfleet signature. Maybe there was an irregular frequency pattern, or any other anomalies that might give her some sort of clue as to what was going on.

Erin felt more comfortable when she knew the facts. And she was determined to use the full power of her science console to get them.

Long range scans determined that the IFF signature matched the U.S.S Sikeston, an old Andromeda class that was currently assigned to the personal command of Vice Fleet Admiral Brenna Burnett. As the ship passed within short range scanners, it detected that weapons were not charged. As they passed within weapons range, a hail was received.

GM

“Long range scans show the signature belonging to the USS Sikeston, Coo– uh, Lieutenant.” Erin told the Asimov’s navigator. “Command says it is currently assigned to the personal command of Vice Fleet Admiral Brenna Burnett.” She glanced nervously at Gavin wondering what would happen next.
