Boarding Physical

Posted April 28, 2019, 8:09 a.m. by Ensign Leon McKenzie (Engineer) (Russell Watt)

Leon McKenzie was excited to be here. Music had turned out to be a bust. Too many people who promised too many things to him, proved to be rather useless in the long run, and so he had put his dream to become a musician aside and instead turned to the other thing that had long interested him … engineering. He had admired Engineers ever since he first went on board the Columbia with his uncle, John-King McKenzie and met Dagen Thor, the ship’s Chief Engineer. He wanted to pursue his own dreams for so long, and not follow his uncle into Starfleet. He grew up the son and the nephew of Starfleet officers but he didn’t want to be known as a Starfleet brat, and he didn’t want to get through on anything other than his own efforts and thus he went through the music studies to join one of the bands of the Federation.

But having reached the end of that, he then decided to go through the Academy and graduate as an Engineer. Initially using his middle name as a hyphenated surname so that the Academy wouldn’t take him in on the basis of his surname alone, he took and passed the entrance exams on the first go. He was, however pulled up on the issue of his name, and that cost him his place in the Academy. Promising to try again during the next intake under his real name, he applied, and got an even better score. He breezed through the Academy, even providing support and advice to some of his fellow Cadets who weren’t finding things as easy as he did. He graduated in the top 2% of all of his engineering classes and the top 5% of his classes overall and also excelled at his cadet cruise on the USS Sputnik.

Despite all of this, he was still a likeable young man who listened intently to instructions by those who were senior to him and asked questions when he didn’t understand, he suggested alternatives when asked for them, but always went with the course of action decided upon.

His health was good and he was in shape for a human of his height and age. Sleep had been an issue for him of late, but he put that down to him being overly excited about this, his first ship past the Academy. Besides, it was the ship to which his uncle was Counselor, and that increased his excitement levels, it would be good to see him again, he just hoped that his quarters were far away from his uncle. His uncle snored for one thing …

Leon entered sickbay and waited patiently to be seen to by a member of the medical staff.
