‘I do believe that Jarret may be trying to escape, Commander Carisi. If he moves, or tries to further evade the Captain, stun him, this is getting us nowhere.” Turning to his panel, he brought up the file the Captain had requested using her code.

This was all Paris needed. Tensions were high and everyone was bunched up. This led to what security folks called the He said. She said paradox. Hearing Vock gave Paris an idea. The CMO said that regrets were an emotional response and since Paris was a woman her entire psychological profile was based on emotional responses. Something needed to wipe that smile off Jarrett’s face and the security chief had found a way to possibly do it. To make it look accidental however, Paris had to work fast.

“Okay break it up,” she said moving across the bridge to where the Captain, CMO and Jarrett were standing. His comment of ‘if you touch me, you will regret it.’ fueled the loyalty streak within her to do whatever was needed to defend her people. On the way over, Paris had primed the taser she wore on her hip right next to her phaser. All she needed was to flick the switch to activate it. The height at which it hung made her hand brush it so that no one would ever see her turn it on. Now that she was placed where she had to be, Paris made sure Jarrett had no physical contact with the captain or Vock. Then it was time to take one for the team as she liked to call it. Paris gritted her teeth knowing it was going to hurt like heck but deployed the taser anyway. The security device on her belt sent a bolt of electricity from her hip toward Jarrett.

This close to Paris’ body the discharge instantly made her leg go numb and elicited a deep rumbling grunt. Since she knew it was coming, Paris had shifted her weight yet it still caused her to bobble a bit. If the electrical arc came into contact with Jarret, it would give him a good jolt probably numbing the entire side of his body instead of just a leg like Paris experienced. The setting wouldn’t kill him, render him unconscious or incapacitate him but it would at least contract his muscles enough to make that smile dip like he had a Bells Palsy for a bit. She had no idea if this would work out the way she expected but it was worth the risk. Her own discomfort in the action was a small price to pay for what Paris called taking one for the team.

Lt. Commander Paris Carisi COS

Jarrett was thoroughly distracted, interested in seeing whatever this message was that Greer kept rambling on about. Without time for a conscious thought, he dropped into a crumpled heap on the bridge floor. Despite Carisi’s care to select a setting that would not impair the commander, it seemed that something had gone terribly wrong.

Within seconds, a terrified young ensign stood and turned to the group of senior officers near the rear of the bridge.

“Captain Greer, we’re receiving a, um, demand to open communication with Admiral Jefferson.”

GM

Vock immediately knelt down and put his fingers to the man’s neck, searching for a pulse. With his other hand, he retrieved his medical tricorder and began scanning the Commander.
