Adeline wiped her slightly damp palms on her lab coat before extending a finger to tap the door chime to the counselor’s office. The hustle and bustle of boarding physicals had allowed her to delay this endeavor slightly, despite Starfleet’s best wishes that such an evaluation occur before one reports for duty officially. But now that things calmed down, it was time to get it over with.

Dr. McGill

“Come in!” Lucas shouted. As his patient entered, he noted that she sweating and fidgeting. Carotid artery visible. “You” he said “are the poster child for nervousness. I might have to use you in a study. Go on, sit down then.”

He studied the doctor’s every move. “Now. Tell me why you’re not a nutter. Why should I let you loose on this ship?”

-Dr Lucas Calvin

Adeline blushed lightly at Calvin’s greeting and made a beeline for the indicated seating, sinking down into it thankfully. With Calvin’s direct question, she could feel her nervousness fading slightly. Her gaze rose to meet his as she responded, “I’m pretty normal, actually.” She offered a nonchalant shrug. “Whether that makes me a nutter depends on your view of humanity, I guess.” Adeline’s service record and background was entirely bland. She’d had a very normal childhood, entered Starfleet to follow her father’s footsteps, and chosen Medical fairly easily at the Academy.

Dr. McGill

“Very normal. Dull even.” It was clear if he knew that was rude, Lucas didn’t care. “Do you do anything for yourself? Anything original?”

-Dr Lucas Calvin
