Scott now made his way through the vessel to the counselors office. Scott always enjoyed conversations with Counselors, because in his experience they always seemed to be worldly, down to earth people who can offer fresh and calm perspectives on situations.
Plus the genuine attention that he received from them was always refreshing.

Arriving in front of the CNS’ office door, Scott rang the chime and stepped back, waiting to be called in.

Ensign Scott Gallahan (Security)

“Come in!” A thorough London accent would greet the new Ensign. The Counselor was sitting behind his desk, chin resting on his palm. He noted the young man’s calm stance and demeanour. He motioned for Scott to have a seat.

Having silently studied the young man long enough, Lucas spoke up. “Right. I’m Dr Lucas Calvin. I’m a deception expert as well as being assigned to listen to everyone’s feelings and tell if they’re mental.” He studied Scott’s response.

“Security officers particularly fascinate me. ‘Starfleet is a peacekeeping organisation.’ And then- BANG!”

-Dr Lucas Calvin

Scott smiled at the Doctor’s casual and witty introduction as he sat down.

“Starfleet may be a Peacekeeping organisation, but unfortunately there are organisations and cultures out there that aren’t, so I suppose somebody has to try and keep people safe.” Scott said in a quite a matter of fact way.

Ensign Scott Gallahan (Security)

An odd posture, and an odd reply. “Well. You’re behaving like you’re well adjusted. First assignment Ensign?”

-Dr Lucas Calvin

“Yes Sir” Scott replied. “I haven’t been out of the Academy long”.

Ensign Scott Gallahan (Security)

“Right. Well, this is the most recently not blown up USS Asimov. Last one, blown up by a rogue Admiral. Just have to make sure you’re ready for whatever’s coming.”

-Dr Lucas Calvin

Scott had been made aware of the situation that had preceded his arrival on this, the latest incarnation of the Asimov. Selfishly, he was pleased he wasn’t caught up in such a difficult situation. But he couldn’t help but feel sympathy for the crew of that ship, being placed in such an overwhelmingly difficult scenario.

“Whatever comes up during my time aboard this vessel. I’ll deal with.” Scott said assuredly. “But…” He continued “If I can’t, I know I’ll have people by my side thank can help me.”

Scott was by no means big-headed or arrogant. But he was determined to be seen as capable, reliable and not to be a failure. This determination would drive Scott through his time on the Asimov, as it had driven him in previous things in his life.

Ensign Scott Gallahan (Security)

“That’s a lot of discipline. That answer. I saw a mix of happiness and sadness when I mentioned the fate of the Asimov-C. Means you’re glad you weren’t there, but you pity the people who were. You’re a giant block of muscle, but you’ve got a brain. Can’t come up with perfect phrases if you don’t. A lot of pent up aggression then? Who for? Authority? No. Starfleet is authority.”

“Mummy?”

“Daddy?”

-Dr Lucas Calvin

Scott felt his teeth grind as his parents were mentioned. Naturally, the story of Scott’s upbringing and his relationship with his parents followed him around in his personal file, so it was only to be expected that it would be brought up at some point - Nevertheless, it still didn’t make it very easy for Scott to talk about.
He eyed the Doctor. “Yeah, I guess you might say that.” Was all Scott said bluntly in reply.

Ensign Scott Gallahan (Security)

Suddenly, Lucas was pointing at Scott. “Now! Now I’m talking to a person, not a plank of wood tied to an audio recorder.sometimes people need to get angry to stop using their stock answers. Feeling any nerves now you’re here?”

-Dr Lucas Calvin

“Believe me Doctor, I seem to have no trouble getting angry.” Scott said in a matter-of-fact manner.
“I’m a little nervous. But not too much. I’m quite looming forward to the tasks ahead of me.”

Ensign Scott Gallahan (Security)

“Confident. To an annoying point. You’re fine to serve. Unless you have any annoying questions, you’re free to leave.”

-Dr Lucas Calvin
