Keegan sighed. “Alright is there any reserve power in any of the non essential systems that we can access it?”

Lt. Cmdr. Murphy, 2nd Officer

“Unfortunately, no, sir. Brazen Destroyer class vessels are compact in space, and although redundant systems are built in, many of the systems that have reserved power are designed for battery-level capacity power that are only sufficient to power independent devices for a couple of hours. Pooling all the power on the ship would not be sufficient to start the warp core, let alone maintain the magnetic fields for anti-matter separation,” said one the NE engineers, “The only thing positive about the Brazen Destroyer class vehicle is that we have a machine shop that can fabricate the parts for the fusion generators, but only if we had power. If we had the means to generate power a different way, we might be able to power the machine shop to produce the replacement parts. It’s also the reason why don’t have many spare parts on the ship either…”

GM

“Ok so what’s nearby that we can shunt enough power to get the shop operational?”

Lt. Cmdr. Murphy, Second Officer

“Large replication or any replication use requires more power than we currently can generate or obtain at the moment. We would need to figure out how to construct a different means of power generation to get any meaningful power to get the shop operational,” said the NE, “We’re basically in the stone age with space age tools, Commander.”

OOC: In other words, there’s not much you can do on the ship to easily fix the ship’s systems… which is kind of the point of the sim. You’re going to have to get creative and figure out how to live without technology or make your own technology.

GM

OOC: I suggest looking up, “The Magic School Bus”, Season 2, Episode 10, “Getting Energized” for some ideas on electricity generation :-P

GM

As the NE’s voice trailed off, a Jeffries tube hatch opened and a rumpled form in a teal-trimmed uniform tumbled out. Stumbling back to her feet and trying to make order of her sweaty, dirty appearance, Adeline reached down to collect the medkit she’d brought with her and then looked around Main Engineering for a moment. “Um, hi, I’m Doctor McGill… is there anyone here who needs medical attention?”

Dr. McGill

Keegan looking at the doctor “I’m fine doc.” “Crewman Michaels do you know if there’s a bicycle onboard that can be used as a cranking device to generate power for the machine shop?”

Lt. Cmdr Murphy, 2nd Officer

“Doctor McGill!” shouted Ensign Shoshawnia, “Over here!” From the distance, Dr. McGill could see a line of injured who were being treated by the medic she had sent here earlier.

“I don’t know. We’d have to check crew quarters. We don’t have a gym onboard, the Brazen-class ship is only slightly bigger than a Defiant-class,” said the NE Engineer, “But sir, you do know that the average electricity generation from bicycle pedaling would only result about 100 watts per hour. That’s less than 0.01 of what the fusion generators produce.”

GM

“If somebody managed to get a scan of the planet, we could see if there’s a river nearby,” Jon said. “Maybe we could build a hydroelectric generator, that could possibly bring us enough power to operate life support, freeing up the generator for other needs.”

They were Starfleet engineers, after all. Something as simple as a watermill was well within their capabilities to build.

“That’s a lot of bicycles,” Adeline murmured as she made her way over to the medic she recognized from Sickbay. Sighing softly, she opened her medkit and retrieved the medical tricorder from it. Time to get down to business.

Dr. McGill

Idly, Jon wondered about the team he’d sent off to check the main computer more than an hour ago now. He knew it wasn’t likely they’d been able to do much without a reliable power supply, but surely they should have returned by now…

Right on cue, the crew sent off to the computer core came back. “Report from the computer core. Both primary, secondary and backup cores were damaged by the electrical overload caused by the plasma storms. The good news is that we can fix the primary core with all the parts from the secondary and backup core, and re-route command path ways through different modules to get the system functional. The bad news is, we can’t test what exactly is bad until power is restored. There could be micro-damage we can’t detect that may lead to computing errors,” said an NE, “And we won’t know that until the computer can run a self-diagnostic.”

GM

Jon sighed. “Yup, that’s about par for the course,” he said. “If we ever get off this rock and back to Federation space, the workers that built this ship will have an aneurysm when they see what we’ve done to her.”

‘Hell,’ he mused. ‘At this point, they might decide it’s simpler to scrap her and proceed directly to the Asimov-E.’

At that point Zen arrived. He looked a bit ruffled as if he had had a bit of a time getting there. “Yes Mister Smythe I believe we may have over extended our warranty on the new ship, however are you sure we can’t just buff it out?” He looked around.

Kaida

“It looks worse than it actually is,” Jon replied. “If we’d left the starbase fully stocked with parts and personnel, it would just be a matter of time. Unfortunately, we have no spare parts, no shuttlecraft to jerry-rig a power supply from, and very limited food and water supplies. Sir,” he said, tacking the honorific on at the end.

“So what is more possible to get power on this ship?”

Murphy, Second Officer

“Honestly, sir, that all depends on what the outside team finds at this point. “

Ens. Smythe

Zen pondered as he looked around, “can we work any way to get some power back, or try and send a distress signal” he asked,

Kaida
XO

“We do have some power, sir,” Jon said. “Just not really enough to do much beyond keep the lights on and the air circulating. As for sending a distress signal, we’d need the computers for that, and we definitely don’t have enough power to turn them on right now.”

Ens. Smythe

“Thank you Ensign”. Keegan nodding to Zen as a hello gesture.

Murphy, 2nd Officer

“Anything else, sirs?” Jon asked. He was interested in going aft to look at the generators himself, see just what was left after the NEs had stripped the broken ones to shore up their single functional one.

Maybe, just maybe, there would be enough to cobble together a second with what few spare parts they had on hand or could cobble together from systems they weren’t using and couldn’t use at this point.

OOC: Bump.

GM

“No that’s all Ensign.”

Murphy, 2nd Officer
