Posted by Commander Idari Solit (Chief Science Officer) in Main Sim: Cargo Bay B, Equipment Search - TAG: Science Dept, anyone who wants to do some digging, maybe an Engineer to help with the door
After returning to the ship, Solit had dozens of ideas about what to do, but the one that most clearly interested him was determining what kind of metal formed the substructure of the island upon which they found themselves. He wasn’t sure what kind of geology equipment a combat vessel would have. Aboard the Cowpens, he’d run an entire Geology department, with activities so specialized that somebody could have the opportunity to do nothing but study natural specimens from estuaries all day if the current mission called for it - or, given the nature of interstellar travel, even if the mission didn’t call for it. If he had to settle for using phasers from the armory to carve away rock faces - assuming that the subspace interference would even allow for phasers to function - he would, but he preferred to see if there was actual excavation equipment available before he went down that path.

Given that Cargo Bay A was currently a triage area and Cargo Bay C was still showing the results of the fire that had broken out, forcing open the doors on Cargo Bay B was Commander Idari’s first course of action. He considered whether to try and temporarily route power from the life support systems to get the door open, but realized that he would more likely kill himself. Idari tried to look for the manual controls.

Ensign Munchkin arrived to find whatever parts he could, and given that he hadn’t checked Cargo Bay B, he came down to find the Commander. “Can I assist you sir?” asked Ensign Munchkin.

Finding the door overwrite, Munchkin released the door and helped Commander Idari force open the door. Their combined strength, unfortunately only yielded a small crack in the door. The door was slightly bent out of shape and was jammed. Munchkin headed to another Cargo Bay and came back with a manual tool to help open the door. Jamming it in the door, Idari and Munchkin were able to finally open the door enough only leap quickly away, as various debris stored in the cargo bay spilled out of the door. Some of the debris were field rations.

Veyn, haven effectively given up trying to decipher the minimal data the Asimov had been able to collect before its crash, had decided to check back in with triage station that had patched him up earlier in Cargo Bay A. But seeing the door to Cargo Bay B ajar as he made his way across the deck, he poked his bandaged head inside to investigate.

“Commander!” Veyn remarked brightly, moving to help clear the fallen rations. “How did the scouting mission go? Hopefully you were more successful than I’ve been. I think some in-person scans of the planet are needed to really make sense of what we’re dealing with here.”
