Ensign Munchkin arrived to find whatever parts he could, and given that he hadn’t checked Cargo Bay B, he came down to find the Commander. “Can I assist you sir?” asked Ensign Munchkin.

Finding the door overwrite, Munchkin released the door and helped Commander Idari force open the door. Their combined strength, unfortunately only yielded a small crack in the door. The door was slightly bent out of shape and was jammed. Munchkin headed to another Cargo Bay and came back with a manual tool to help open the door. Jamming it in the door, Idari and Munchkin were able to finally open the door enough only leap quickly away, as various debris stored in the cargo bay spilled out of the door. Some of the debris were field rations.

“Well, at least we don’t have to ask that Ferengi for gardening tips any time soon,” Solit said almost to himself.

It was sheer coincidence that the eighteen months of supplies had been loaded onto the Asimov-D before the shuttle craft, and that they hadn’t burned in the fire in Cargo Bay C. He scanned the debris for a few seconds, trying to find the equipment that he had in mind. He ventured through the debris into the actual Cargo Bay. Commander Idari motioned for Munchkin to follow him.

Veyn, haven effectively given up trying to decipher the minimal data the Asimov had been able to collect before its crash, had decided to check back in with triage station that had patched him up earlier in Cargo Bay A. But seeing the door to Cargo Bay B ajar as he made his way across the deck, he poked his bandaged head inside to investigate.

“Commander!” Veyn remarked brightly, moving to help clear the fallen rations. “How did the scouting mission go? Hopefully you were more successful than I’ve been. I think some in-person scans of the planet are needed to really make sense of what we’re dealing with here.”

(Lt. Cewa, Science)

Solit smiled slightly, crinkling his ridges.

“Lieutenant, regrettably, scans with any equipment not using either a fusion generator or a warp core as a power source will prove fruitless on this particular land mass,” Commander Idari said. “We found a Ferengi without any lobes for profit, but he gave us some valuable information. The island’s bedrock is apparently heavily formed from an unknown metallic substance that forms a diamagnetic field at least around the island, which is what is blocking all subspace-based technology. I’m planning on going on a bit of a digging expedition to get a sample. Care to join me?”

Solit noticed the head bandage.

“Unless, of course, you were advised against heavy manual labor. I’m technically working with one arm, so I need some aid regardless.”

Commander Idari, CSO

Veyn blinked in surprise. “Oh! Well that is certainly intriguing. I wouldn’t miss it. Perhaps my expertise could help us identify the substance at least at a molecular level. Chemistry has a fair amount of overlap with geology, after all.” But after the initial excitement, Idari’s mention of the diamagentic field made Veyn’s stomach drop.

Lieutenant Cewa looked up at the bandage he couldn’t see. “Oh, no, I’m fine Commander. Ready to go when you are.” Maybe not the whole truth, but Veyn was determined to do his part to start whatever needed to be done to leave the planet.

(Lt. Cewa, Science)

“Very well, Lieutenant,” Solit replied. “Let’s start looking for some geological survey equipment. Given the condition of the field rations, it’s probably piled somewhere inside instead of packed away neatly in a properly cataloged storage container - not that we could read the catalog even if that were the case.”

With that, Solit managed to shove aside enough rations to start walking in to the cargo bay. He had a sudden memory of an incident aboard a vessel involving tribbles spilling out of a cargo bay in a similar fashion to the field rations. He decided to ready himself to duck, just to be on the safe side.

(Commander Idari, CSO)

Veyn moved to help, also being particularly careful to make sure his healing head was out of danger of falling rations or other equipment. he scanned the room for the survey equipment, hoping it would be easily identifiable even with one of his eyes blackened.

(Lt. Cewa, Science)

Lt. Cewa found the equipment… unfortunately it was damaged. Whether it was repairable and serviceable, was a different question all together.

GM

“Well done, Lieutenant, although it would appear that the crash has put paid to the equipment,” Solit said. “One would think that the storage containers would have been stacked more securely than they proved to be. A matter for Operations or even the Starbase crew that loaded the ship, I suppose. What would you say to a trip to Engineering?”
Commander Idari picked up what looked to be an ore extraction device, although, given its current state, it was more suited to gathering dust. “I know how to use all of this, but, regrettably, I am not as well-versed in their maintenance. A drawback of spending so many years in the upper levels of a science department, I suppose.”

(Commander Idari, CSO)

Veyn rubbed the back of his neck bashfully. “Likewise, Commander, my experience repairing machines is limited. He gathered what other equipment he could carry and nodded to the door of the cargo bay. “To engineering, then. Shall we?”

(Lt. Cewa, Science)

Idari nodded, then looked around for Ensign Munchkin, and called out, “Ensign, we’re heading to Engineering to fix our geologic survey equipment. Care to accompany us?”

Idari grabbed what seemed to be the lightest tools as well as a sling to carry them, and moved toward the door.

(Commander Idari, CSO)

Ensign Munchkin grabbed a few rations and said, “Sure thing! I heard that Engineering has possibly come up with a slightly easier way to travel between decks…”

GM

Veyn sighed in apprehension. “Yes, the pulley system… not my favorite method of travel, but I suppose it’s better than scaling the turbolift shaft by hand.” He looked down at the bundle of machinery in his arms. “Hopefully we’ll be able to transport the equipment while using it.”
