…clunk…clunk…clunk…
“You alright back there Lt?” the young shuttle pilot asked. “You seem more nervous than a first year cadet?” He added, looking back at the young Haliian woman with a sparkling new pip on her collar.
Lari sat chewing her fingernail in the back of the shuttlecraft for a moment before she noticed the pilot staring at her. “Hmm…?” She replied, still not used to being addressed at Lt. “Who me?” She added as she stopped tapping her boot against the bulkhead.
She quickly sat up in her seat and straightened her uniform. “Yes, sorry, it’s just I’ve been away for a while…I’m fine…” she mused as she glanced out across the stars.
The official reason for her sabbatical and subsequent transfer had been listed simply as personal but Lari still felt uneasy and somewhat embarrassed about how her first assignment had unfolded. It seemed like such a long time ago now and she had grown up a lot since, besides, everyone needed a crazy ex story. Lari was finally ready to get back to doing what she loved as a doctor.
As they approached the Asimov, Lari snapped out of thoughts of the past and looked towards her next chapter, a new start she hoped. She quickly smoothed her hair and instinctively brushed the creases out of her uniform as the shuttle pilot opened the comm.
