Main Sim: Engineering - Science Equipment Repairs - TAG Cewa, GM, Engineering Crew

“I’m only sure I can make the one,” Jon said. “And even then, like I said, sirs, it’ll be a couple days at least.”

“Commander,” said an NE security officer who was happen to listening on the conversation, who was acting as a runner for Engineering, “I was present when that Ferengi merchant Zank approached us. Do you think his urgency to get off this planet is worth enough to provide us shovels, if he has any?”

GM

“Well, if all we’re getting out of the excavator is a shovel anyway,” Solit said, “I suppose that it wouldn’t hurt to negotiate for supplies.”

Commander Idari paused and looked back to Smythe.

“What were you working on before we arrived, anyway? Is there a way in which some of my department’s personnel could assist you?”

“Power and internal comms, sir,” Jon replied. ” With a bit of scavenging when I’ve got a spare second. “

About this time, MacMoragh entered what was left of Engineering and said, “Report.”

“Not much has changed since you left, sir,” Jon said. “I’ve checked the one reactor we have left, if we’re careful we can run it for three years. It does have some microfractures, and so do the fuel tanks, but they’re not something we can fix without shutting down the reactor and emptying the tanks.

“We’ve also started work to restore internal comms. We can rewire the commbadges to work on radio waves, and I’m also building a backup intercom system, in case we lose the ability to recharge the badges or find out that something in the hull blocks EM waves,” he added.

“And finally, I’ve been the bearer of bad news to these two fine gentlemen from the science department, whose fancy equipment was not properly stored and got squashed in the cargo bay.”

An engineering NE came up, “Here are the first 5 commbadges that have been altered to use radio signals, Ensign Smythe. We could only find 2 commbadge spares, so for now, the Engineering department has hand over all their commbadges until we can reprogram them. The work is slow going, unfortunately, since we have to reprogram it manually without the use of a computer.”

GM

“Thanks, Ensign,” Jon said, taking one for himself and swapping out his current (useless) badge. He then offered the remainder to his boss and the scientists. The remaining one of the first batch could go to the Captain.

Veyn’s triangular eyebrow shot up at the mention of the ferengi. Of course he had identified the make of the vessel when they landed, and that it had assisted them in surviving their crash, but this was the first he was hearing of the interactions between the crew and their savior. He was glad to hear that the ferengi also wanted to leave quickly, as Lieutenant Cewa did. “Commander,” he said to address Idari, “While our engineers triage what technology we still have that’s usable on the Asimov, it would be a good idea to ask the ferengi what equipment he could spare, considering he’s had more time to take stock of his resources than us.”

(Lt. Cewa, Science)

Idari shook his head. He didn’t exactly want to deal with Zank; the Ferengi was almost too honest for his taste, and Rule of Acquisition said, “There is nothing more dangerous than an honest businessman.” Of course, he had no actual empirical reason to mistrust the Ferengi.

“That would be a good use of our time. If the Captain proposes it, you can join me on the expedition.”
