Natalie returned to the exterior of the ship with a tool kit in hand and looking for the Chief Engineer to see where she could be of most use. It had been awhile since she had worked on the Asimov herself. Especially the new ship. It wasn’t even a week old and she was already grounded. She was still avoiding writing the report on this, mostly because she didn’t know exactly what to write. Seeing the Chief she walked over “Riker, where do you need a salty old star fleet engineer turned captain?” She asked light heartedly.

CO

Looking back at the Captain he responded, “I am still interested in suggestions on how to set up a com link that can some how reach orbit, Ma’am. If we don’t get that done we might be here a long time.”

CE

A science NE Vulcan who was helping out approached the two. “Good afternoon, Lieutenant, Captain. I could not help overhearing about trying to establish a communication link past the orbit. I recall being informed by Commander Solit that the anomaly we past through may seem to indicate we have no idea where we are in the universe. He also mentioned levels of chronitons, which could indicate potential time travel in the anomaly. Forgive me for asking but is it logical to spend time on an effort when we do not know where we are and whether anyone would respond to such a signal? We are lacking significant amount of data in that regard, and given that I understand the Ferengi Merchant Zank has been here a few months, it is likely he has valuable information he has yet to reveal to us. Though, Commander Solit did indicate that Mr. Zank was eager to leave the planet.”

GM

Natalie looked at NE Vulcan “You’re correct Ensign.” She looked back at Riker “For now…I would be happy with basic communications between the decks and our away teams.” She said and turned to NE Vulcan “Are the mineral deposits on the planet causing the interference? Besides the broken communications array, which we need to fix?” She asked and looked at Riker “How badly damaged is the communications array?” She asked “We need a list of all systems that have been affected and the most critical, life support, weapons and communications need to be prioritized.” She said knowing that both officers knew this.

“Initial survey teams seem to indicate the subspace communication interference is only localized to this island,” replied the NE Vulcan, “I heard from my colleagues in Engineering that getting some form of extra power would be useful in order to get the replicators online to make further repairs to the outer hull. Engineering reports life support is stable, ship weapons are inoperable and anything subspace is useless, and Engineering is modifying commbadges to operate on EM band frequency but the work is slow going due to the lack of an operating computer system which we can not power on due to the lack of power.”

She was thoughtful for a moment about Zank “I think there is a lot more to him than we know. Part of me wants to take a team and go to his ship and see exactly what’s going on.” She said thoughtfully “that may be a tomorrow thing....let’s get working on the critical systems. Riker, where would you like me to start?” Natalie asked.

CO

“I cannot say I agree with the Ensign, Captain, but I will follow your orders. Considering your orders, I think we should look at the communication array and see what needs to be done to fix that then…I mean for local communication. I mean if it is designed to work (under normal circumstances) to other ships and so on, it stands to reason that we could adapt it to our local use here.”

Riker

Natalie nodded “Let’s go. The sooner we get to work the sooner we can have at least ship wide communications back up and running.” She said “What if we revert to analog waves instead. Like a short wave radio?”

CO

“Logic would dictate that power be the first priority unless we have enough crew members to focus on both power generation efforts and local communication repair efforts,” said the NE Vulcan, “Without power, there is not much we can do to confirm whether the communication system is working or not.”

GM

Natalie nodded “Let’s start with the power issue and see what we can get going.” She said as she moved toward the main part of the saucer to see if they could do something to get main or even secondary power up and running again.

CO

Riker followed the Captain’s order and the suggest of the Ensign and went with the small group to see how they could get the power up. “Captain, what if we took parts from the warp engine to build a make-shift power generator?” inquired the CE.

Riker MacMoragh
Chief Engineer

“That may very well work.” She said “I’ll go down to main engineering and see what we can scrounge up to make work.” She said “Let see what we can come up with. Two minds are better than one.”

“Should I come with you, Ma’am?” inquired Riker

Riker

Natalie nodded “Yes, let’s go. Two minds are better than one.” She said trying to think of a creative way to at least get communications up and running and getting at least secondary power back up. Natalie looked at Riker “What are you thinking?” She asked.

OOC: Uh… if I’m recalling my Trek tech correctly, doesn’t a warp core require magnetic fields to operate to keep the anti-matter separate from matter in order to have a stable controlled reaction?

GM

OOC: It does. Natalie will see what other power cells we have that can be used to help with the power for the ship.

Tyra

When the Captain showed up in Main Engineering, an NE spotted her. “Ma’am? Is there something I can assist you with?” The dark unlit warp core only served to remind them the gravity of the current situation and how stuck they were.

GM

Natalie smiled “Power cells?” She said “Extra ones, also couplings.” She said thoughtfully and looked at Riker “What else?”

CO

“Power cells where what I was thinking about, Ma’am. Assuming they were not all destroyed in the crash” answered Riker.
