OOC: Engineering and Security are here

The blue orb pulsed aggressively, causing William Hampton to look away for a moment. The Blue hue from the sphere was powerful, and it drowned at all other sources of light, illuminating the entire room under a blue blanket. The expedition team that had found it noted that it was prone to give off bursts of temporal energy, and cautioned against close contact, as one could easily be struck by a discharge from the orb. The level three containment field was clearly not up to the task, and the engineering and security teams had been dispatched to secure the cargo and make sure a temporal portal didn’t up in the middle of the ship.

Hampton had been the first to arrive, surveying the data and making an inspection of the containment field integrity, he estimated three hours until the field collapse and the orb would begin firing off discharges into the ship.

A short while later
Jonathan made his way over to Lt. Hampton, after wandering around the containment field, PaDD in hand. “Sir, we have a problem here.” The emphasis was impossible to miss. The short crewman adjusted his goggles before continuing, a bit of a nervous habit he had developed. “We know this field isn’t quite up to the task for this anomaly; that’s expected and we’re attempting to compensate for it. But the relays we have, even doubled up like they are, are still getting blown out - way too fast.” He held out the PaDD for inspection; on its display were a few pictures of a relay that had been cut apart, showing signs of overload, as well as age. “I could be wrong here, but I think the temporal energy is killing the relays, and maybe other things too. But it’s not consistent - we can’t predict when things are about to fail, and so we can’t replace them in time unless we get lucky. You got any suggestions, Sir?” Jonathan had some ideas already, but none of them were ‘good’. Replacing everything as rapidly as possible was somewhat workable, but that would run the crew ragged, and the chance for errors would rise exponentially.
OOC: Feel free to retcon anything I’ve said if needed!

Crewman Jonathan Durheim, Engineering

Surda looked at the orb curiously from up against the wall. “I might be new, but I’m pretty sure “shoot it” won’t work on this.” She walked closer to the two men, and the orb. “I’m Surda, nice to meet you.”
-Ensign Surda

“In my experience, ‘shoot it’ rarely does,” came a voice from across the bay. Moments later and a towering, half-Klingon female came into view and marched straight for the security officer. “Welcome to the Leviathan, Ensign Surda. You new here? Me too. Kara Nakuto,” she extended a powerful hand to the Orion.

Then, glancing over at the engineers she called out, “Have we tried calibrating the containment field to match the temporal frequency of the anomaly itself?”
