OOC: Engineering and Security are here

The blue orb pulsed aggressively, causing William Hampton to look away for a moment. The Blue hue from the sphere was powerful, and it drowned at all other sources of light, illuminating the entire room under a blue blanket. The expedition team that had found it noted that it was prone to give off bursts of temporal energy, and cautioned against close contact, as one could easily be struck by a discharge from the orb. The level three containment field was clearly not up to the task, and the engineering and security teams had been dispatched to secure the cargo and make sure a temporal portal didn’t up in the middle of the ship.

Hampton had been the first to arrive, surveying the data and making an inspection of the containment field integrity, he estimated three hours until the field collapse and the orb would begin firing off discharges into the ship.

Lt. William Hampton- CE

A short while later
Jonathan made his way over to Lt. Hampton, after wandering around the containment field, PaDD in hand. “Sir, we have a problem here.” The emphasis was impossible to miss. The short crewman adjusted his goggles before continuing, a bit of a nervous habit he had developed. “We know this field isn’t quite up to the task for this anomaly; that’s expected and we’re attempting to compensate for it. But the relays we have, even doubled up like they are, are still getting blown out - way too fast.” He held out the PaDD for inspection; on its display were a few pictures of a relay that had been cut apart, showing signs of overload, as well as age. “I could be wrong here, but I think the temporal energy is killing the relays, and maybe other things too. But it’s not consistent - we can’t predict when things are about to fail, and so we can’t replace them in time unless we get lucky. You got any suggestions, Sir?” Jonathan had some ideas already, but none of them were ‘good’. Replacing everything as rapidly as possible was somewhat workable, but that would run the crew ragged, and the chance for errors would rise exponentially.
OOC: Feel free to retcon anything I’ve said if needed!

Crewman Jonathan Durheim, Engineering

Surda looked at the orb curiously from up against the wall. “I might be new, but I’m pretty sure “shoot it” won’t work on this.” She walked closer to the two men, and the orb. “I’m Surda, nice to meet you.”
-Ensign Surda

“In my experience, ‘shoot it’ rarely does,” came a voice from across the bay. Moments later and a towering, half-Klingon female came into view and marched straight for the security officer. “Welcome to the Leviathan, Ensign Surda. You new here? Me too. Kara Nakuto,” she extended a powerful hand to the Orion.

Surda took Kara’s hand with a smile. “Nice to meet you.”

Then, glancing over at the engineers she called out, “Have we tried calibrating the containment field to match the temporal frequency of the anomaly itself?”

  • Kara Nakuto (Consultant Researcher)

“I don’t think so, but I’ve been occupied with maintaining the field; we’re getting run ragged on that. I think Mr. Bog’s been on the team looking at the anomaly itself; he may have some insight. But as things are right now…” The typically cheery Durheim now had a genuinely concerned expression on his face. “We’re holding things stable, but I can’t say how long that will last. I believe Mr. Bog can be found right over by the anomaly.” Durheim waved the broken relay at a knot of engineers standing adjacent to the pulsing orb.

If on cue, a blue bolt erupts from the orb, sticking into the knot of engineers sending them scattering.

Kara watched on, impassively, as the engineers were scattered by a charge from the anomaly.
“Looks like they have everything under control,” she remarked eventually, with a shake of the head.

OOC: Cross posted for Manhattan or whoever might be able to answer:

IC:
=^=CIC to Manhattan. Do you have that blue orb contained yet? The Captain and Commander would like an update.=^=
Lt. Synthi-er

Hampton glared at Surda and Nakuto, “Now is not the time for a meet and greet, we need to reinforce this containment field before it depletes the shields integrity.” His went back down to his padd. “Nakuto if you would like to try that be my guest.”

Lt. William Hampton- CE

“Aye, Sir,” Nakuto responded, matching the sharpness of his tone with her own.

“ Get that Gods rotted fool to sickbay befor he ages the rest of us a bloody century!” Came the unmistakable below of Teller Bog.

Surda rolled her eyes. “If I die, at least one person should’ve heard my name from my own lips,” she muttered. She was pretty sure she wasn’t going to die, but still.
-Surda

“I hear you, Ensign Surda,” the half-Klingon offered the security officer a bow. Then, with a grin, added, “But perhaps you would tell me again over a celebratory bloodwine once this mess has been taken care of?”

Surda flushed lightly. “Happily.” She hadn’t meant anyone to hear that.

“Miss Surda? I’m Mr. Durheim; Pleased to meet you!” (Jonathan is a short human male; with severe burn scars over his face and scalp; wearing thick goggles. His hands are mechanical, with 7 digits on each. His arms under his coat-sleeves are mechanical as well, and he is wearing a plain jumpsuit that shows a number of recent smudges.)

He gestured with his hands to show they were occupied; PaDD in one hand, a burnt-out relay in the other. “Pardon me not offering to shake hands; but I think we can put you to work. We’re continuing to swap out relays and fuses as fast as we can; you can help to shuttle parts back and forth from the engineering station we have set up right over there.” Jonathan pointed off to a corner of the bay, where there were several pallets and workbenches set up; bustling with technicians and engineers.

He paused mid-point, turning back to Ensign Surda. “Pardon me; here I am ordering people about again. I’m sure you have an assignment already; please ignore me!”

Crewman Jonathan Durheim, Engineering

Surda smiled. “Considering the assignment was “help all you can” feel free to order me around!” She looked over to where he had been pointing. “Just carry things from here to there?”
-Surda

“Some one get me a tractor emitter and a stasis field generator before one of these fools killed some one!” It was obvious the Tellarite had been effected buy the anomaly as his tusks as well as his hair and beard had grown some few inches. “I swear buy Sara’s tail I will eat the next fool that pisses this thing off!”

Uncle Bog…

With Durheim and Surda clearly now occupied with crucial tasks, Nakuto grabbed the tractor emitter and field generator and made her way over to Bog to see if she could be of assistance there.
“This thing appears to be giving you some trouble, Ensign,” she remarked to the Tellarite as she passed over the requested equipment. “What can I do to help? I know my way around a toolkit.”

  • Kara Nakuto (Consultant Researcher)

Handing the Klingon the generator and grabbing a a nearby panel and pulled it open.” Link the stasis generator into the containment grid, wile I see about slowing things a bit.” Bog stepped to another panel and exposed an auxiliary power cell and physically pulled it from its mountings and began to cobble it together with the emitter and his tricorder.

“ You, Orion! I need your phaser!” Bellowed the short Tellarite engineer. As he worked.

Bog.

Surda nodded and ran over from where she had been shuttling things for the other engineers, pulling her phaser out as she ran. She handed it over quickly, then stepped back a bit.
-Surda

With a grunt of acknowledgment Bog slid the phaser in-line with the emitter and the power module, making a few adjustment the surrounding crew felt a lurch as the deck seems to can’t tord the anomaly and the hull groaned before the inertial dampers compensated.

The dirty little engineering trick that slowed the creation of an artificial singularity to creat supper dense alloys would slow time around the anomaly wile hopefully the stasis field should further damp its effects. At least untold something permanent could be found to contain it.

Bog

Hampton simply sat back and watched as his team worked. He looked at Surda with an unamused expression, “Sure, just hand a tellarite a phaser whenever he asks, that’s a good technique for a security officer.” He said with a frown. He looked at his padd and took out his tricorder to measure the power output of the orb.

Lt. William Hampton- CE

Surda shrugged. “I’d rather give up my phaser than be affected by whatever that thing is.” She gestured to the orb. “And besides, I have an extra.” She nodded down to the phaser strapped onto her ankle. “Extra weapons is a good technique for security officers.”

“ No fear, Lieutenant I have no intention of shooting you down.” Bog snorted. “You may be crazy as a sprayed bassia, but I have to admit your growing on me.”

Bog

Surda laughed, but her humor quickly dissipated. “How long should that hold?”
-Surda

“If it works at all, long enough for the lieutenant to come up with something permanent. I hope.” Bog replied as he adjusted the graviton emitter. “How are you coming on the stasis generator?” He asked Kara.

Bog

“Almost there,” Nakuto called back, her fingers dancing over wires and controls as she completed reconfigurations of the generator to recognise inputs from the containment grid.

The containment shift leader’s office was situated to the right of the current activity and, at that moment, was empty. Still, the anxious roar of Captain Cobb would be heard from those in reasonable proximity out on the main deck…
=^=This is the captain. I want an immediate update on our newest anomaly. I also want all currently housed anomalies checking and re-checking and I want someone to do a full sweep of both Nakuto and McHarrie’s laboratories. You find anything at all that might be causing hallucinatory effects on this ship then you are to report it to me immediately via a secure channel. Understand?=^=

  • Captain Zachariah Cobb

A single eyebrow arched up into her ridged forehead at the order to search her laboratory. Then, glancing at Ensign Surda, she muttered “Nobody is getting into my laboratory without me by their side.”

A chirp from the unit in her hands brought her back to the present and she called out triumphantly to Bog. “Generator connected and online.”

  • Kara Nakuto (Consultant Researcher)

OOC: Pasting Bog back in…

“At least one of you rag eared motherless curs can fallow directions!” Bog grunted. “Thank the gods for small favors and Klingon women.”

Bog

Surda nodded. She understood being possessive over what you had, especially your work. “If you can leave this and trust it to hold, you can come with me to check your lab.”
-Surda

“I can already tell you there is nothing in my lab that would be causing such troubling effects,” Nakuto retorted, as if Surda’s offer had been a challenge. Then, softening a little, she shrugged and added, “But if it allows the security team to put a tick in the box and say that the area is safe then I would be happy to have you inspect it, Ensign Surda.”

As for Bog, Nakuto flashed the little man a wide and slightly intimidating grin. “Let us yet hope we can thank them also for our skins, Mr Bog,” she replied, “if you have managed to align that graviton emitter correctly.”

  • Kara Nakuto (Consultant Researcher)

Hampton breathed a sign of annoyance. The old drunkard was never satisfied with him. =^= Hampton to bridge, the anomaly is contained for now, my team is attempting to strengthen the field integrity encasing it to make sure it stays that way. =^= He looked over at Nakuto and Surda, “I would go inspect your quarters, sounds like the Captains on edge over something.”
