Surda climbed down another ladder, running across the open area in a complete sprint.
-Surda, CoS

The first man went down but the second ducked behind cover and waited for Surda to cross in front of him. As she did he lashed out with a round house kick to the back of her head.

Casela heard the other two coming behind her. She ducked behind a tree, loaded the sling and then stepped out, the leather string and pouch whirling over her head. With a gentle flick and release of her index finger the shot flew from the pouch and nailed the first one right in the forehead. It shocked the last man who ducked back behind the last bldg. Casela didn’t wait. She headed for the shuttle. Once both she and Surda got there the program would end.

Surda dove forwards, executing an elegant roll across the ground. She was halfway there, and the man probably wasn’t fast enough to catch her. She’d take her chances. She ran, hoping for the element of surprise and a little bit of luck.
-Surda, CoS

The man was not as fast as Surda by any measure, but he was still coming. Casela appeared off to one side, “Surda, duck!” She came to a stop reached down and withdrew a throwing knife from a hip pocket and with a step back and one fluid motion pulled back, aimed, and released the knife with deadly accuracy, landing right in the man’s chest dropping him. Casela turned and ran, catching up with Surda, and taking that last few hundred yards at a steady jog, reaching the shuttle. She keyed the door and the program ended. She turned to look at Surda. “That was fun. Next time, we’ll try a harder program.” Casela grinned. “Oh and by the way, you’re cleared for duty.”
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS

Surda dove without even thinking about it. The benefits of conditioned responses she supposed. “Harder sounds fun.” Surda laughed, comparing this to her last visit to a counselor. “This was much more fun than last time!” Although, anything was probably more fun than sitting in the same room for three days being asked “Are you a spy for the Orion Syndicate” every four minutes.

“For me as well. Much more fun than asking someone ‘how does that make you feel?’ I mean you can only ask that so many times before the person gets a little twitchy and wants to hit you. This is much more cathartic.” With the program having ended the holographic weapons had disappeared and Casela significantly felt their loss. She missed the weight of them in her hands and the feel of them in their various pockets and loops on her uniform. The things she gave up about herself for this crew.

As the program faded around them, the almost immediate silence was punctured by the sounds of singular, and enthusiastic, applause. From behind them appeared the figure of Captain Cobb, his blue eyes dancing with delight as a grin spread across his face.
“I hope you don’t mind but I took a seat at the back of the bar for the last couple of rounds. And I have to say, I was most impressed by both of you.”

  • Captain Zachariah Cobb

Surda laughed. “Perhaps we ought to make a show of it.”
-Surda, CoS

Casela grinned and laughed, a deep rich sound that had her bending over. “Oh I think we could arrange that. Maybe take requests?” She grinned over at Cobb though with a flourish of a bow. “I’m glad you enjoyed it.” She’d knew he’d been there, even without her telepathy she’d heard the doors to the holodeck open. She’d bet money Surda had as well. “I don’t mind at all. I have to say though I’m rather disappointed Captain that you didn’t join us.” And with a cheeky grin and a wink. “I guess I should be lucky you didn’t storm the holodeck with a full contingent of security officers.”
Lt Synthi-er, CNS

“Now Cas, I don’t think either of you needed any assistance from me,” Cobb replied as he began to follow the two warriors to the exit. “And I had no intention of spoiling your fun. Believe me,” he added with a wink to Surda, “I haven’t survived this long without learning when to jump in and when to leave well alone!”

“And anyway,” he continued with a chuckle, “I suspect I need to conserve my energy for whatever Lt Surda here will have in store for us on her training program. You never know, I might just surprise you all with what this old dog is still capable of.”

  • Captain Zachariah Cobb

“It’s just some friendly games!” Surda stifled a chuckle. “It’ll be fun.” She did wish he’d joined them though. The more the merrier after all. “I assume you’ve heard of laser tag?”
-Surda, CoS

She’d played laser tag as a child. It had been one of the few games she and the other older children had participated in after the resistance. “I’m all for that.” She tucked a hand into Cobb’s elbow, being very cheeky. “I claim you for my team Cpt. I am all for seeing whatever tricks you know, and I have no desire to be on the receiving end. I don’t like to lose.”
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS

“Wise choice, Miss Synthi-er,” Zachariah replied, patting her hand on his arm. “Wise choice.”

With a chuckle, he stepped out into the corridor and prepared to return to his afternoon’s duties after the respite just enjoyed on the holodeck. Although first, he would have to look through all the information the computer held on this ‘laser tag’ so that he could be as prepared as possible for Surda’s event. His reputation was now on the line and as the captain of this ship, he aimed to impress.

  • Captain Zachariah Cobb

Surda grinned. “Hopefully he isn’t under the illusion that’s the only thing we’ll do.”
-Surda, CoS
