Icarus stepped up the gangplank of the shuttle and stuck his head inside. “This the shuttle headed to Delotha,” he asked?

Casela was sitting in the pilot’s seat running through her checks. She called out over her shoulder, “Come on aboard, Remington.” She turned in the seat to face him, “You can stow your gear under either the port or starboard seats.”

He turned to look at Casela and replied with a “Wow!! I didn’t even recognize you. This is your alter ego known to these people, I take it?”

Casela stood up, executing a cross between a bow and a curtsey that was both dignified and fun-loving. “Zanya, at your service.” She walked over, held out her hand to him, “You must be the security expert I hired?” She made it a question, it was up to him how he wanted to play it and to provide his name. It wasn’t so much a test as the first chance for them all to get used to the use of an alias before they landed on Delotha.

Stepping into the shuttle, he wore a dark leather outfit under a long, black, leather duster. Straps from a shoulder holster could be seen under the open snaps. The holster carried an old style phaser. The type that could easily be purchased on the black market. “Hope I’m not over dressed.”

Remington (CIO)

Casela gave Remington a very thorough once over. She nodded approvingly. “Not at all. You’ll fit right in.” She nodded her head to the computer console. “Come here. Let’s get your biosignature keyed to the computer.” She pointed to the palm and retina scanners. “Alfred,”

“Yes Miss Casela?” She rolled her eyes and looked at Bog, “Why did you make the HUI so formal? Alfred, Recognize Remington, Icarus, Lieutenant. Full access.” Bog already had access from where he’d rebuilt Valkyrja. “Also as they board, recognize Raauhl, Ryder, Lieutenant Commander. Full access. And McHarrie, John Lieutenant Commander. Full access.”

While Alfred registered Remington to the access and control of the shuttle, she stepped out of the shuttle to inspect the finished repairs from Valkyrja eventful test flight.
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS (Zanya)

The damage from the encounter had been repaired, the crew’s addition of a centimeter of ablative armor and a low emissive coating as well as a pair of feathers wings painted along each flank in subtle shades of grey.

Valkyrja

Raauhl had taken a little longer than he usually would, getting used to seeing his reflection and it not looking anything like you was a little disturbing and the fact he had no spots was certainly something he wouldn’t get used to. Fortunately, however the transformation was only temporarily. Stepping in the shuttlebay he could see most of the crew had already assembled in or around the ship and proceeded to join them. “Sorry it took me so long” He said trying to sound more like himself than usual, if they didn’t recognize him visually they’d know from his voice.

  • Lt Cmdr Raauhl, XO

A woman, with extremely long curly pink hair and bright purple eyes came around the front corner of the shuttle after having inspected it. Bog had out done himself again. Their little run-in with that stolen Breen scout ship and hit hard, but Valkyrja certainly stood up to the beating better than she had before. She grinned at the extra layers of ablative armor Bog had applied as well. Casela recognized the voice and his presence and walked over. “Time to choose a cover, Ryder. You need a name and a profession. Administration, sciences, what ever you want. I’m Zanya. I hired all of you.” She waved towards the inside of the shuttle and stepped. “You can stow your stuff under the aft seats. Also, let the HUI get your biometrics. That way if any of us return to the shuttle alone, you all have access.”

“I thought Ryder Anderson made a fitting name, nothing too put of the ordinary and still similar to what it is now as for my professional status how does Communications Engineer?” He asked having given a little thought into his background, it was all simple enough he thought. He followed her into the Shuttle along with everyone else and then registered his biometrics with HUI as instructed.

“Simple, easily to answer to, and familiar. Not bad.” Casela considered his profession only briefly and nodded, “You’ll have no end of requests with that. There isn’t a person on a border colony that doesn’t need their comms fixed or tweaked. It will give you plenty of opportunity to gather information. You’ll be in their homes and they’ll talk, out of politeness and a need to flatter you so you’ll actually fix the comms.”

She took the pilots seat, and began with the engine warm up sequence. =^=Shuttle Valkyrja to CIC. McReady, would you actually scan the surrounding system this time. I don’t want anymore hostile ships sneaking up on me.=^=

=^=Aye Counselor.=^= McReady snickered over the comm. A few moments later. =^=All’s clear Lt.=^= Casela muttered under her breath, “It better be this time.” The impulse engines began to hum as they started up. “Alfred, how are the weapons and defensive systems?” she asked the HUI who she knew was still active despite his hologram having been dismissed.
Lt. Synthi-er/Zanya

“Stand buy, why who do you intend to enrage this time?” Came Huey’s dry English accented voice.

“Alfred, you are computer program. I am not justifying my query to you. Just answer the question or maybe I should pull your power source out.” Casela really wasn’t in the mood for a sassy computer program. “Really Bog why did you make him so annoying? I mean I already have you on board. Speaking of which, I thought you had enough imagination to create your own alias and profession. Do I need to do it for you? This needs to be decided.”

“Tellek Bog is known to certain circles outside the federation, Counselor. I used to make a living bring wayward individuals back for certain interested parties. Another Itinerant Tellarite Engineer in these parts will attract little attention. “ Taking up the co pilots seat as he spoke and the XO had not.

Casela turned in her chair to face Bog a steely glint to her eyes. “I have no problem with a Tellarite engineer. I do have a problem with the name of Tellek Bog being known outside the federation and that Tellek Bog is now part of the Federation and that’s not a secret. We will not be bringing anyone looking for us when we are gone by being careless. Will we, Tellek?”

As for the HUI’s personality, it has been my observation that you only listen to those of us who annoy you. I believe Mr. Ryder would agree with my assessment.”

Having turned back to the control panel Casela raised a brow but didn’t turn around. “There is a difference between being annoying because you are standing your ground and know you are right, and being annoying for the simple sake of stupidity.”

“Interesting accent” Ryder said from his seated position inside the shuttle, he was looking around intrigued by the ships design and decided to inquire about it later.

  • Lt Cmdr Raauhl, XO

“Thank you, Mister Ryder. It is modeled after a fictional character from a twenty’s and twenty first century illustrated serial magazine, who was further featured in cinema and animation.” The hologram appeared he spoke, a spry elderly man in an antique tuxedo, sporting a monocle. “His name was Alfred, Sir.”

OOC: So Jim is on LOA and I know Terry has been sick, so we will assume they are on the shuttle with us, but we won’t go too far ahead yet. Let’s raz the counselor some more. eye roll
IC:
Casela turned in her chair and checked to make sure everyone was in. “Anyone need anything else before we take off? No? Good. The replicator can make whatever you need.” She pointed to the aft starboard panel. “The benches flip out to cots and two more fold down from above. And the co-pilot seat is open. Leviathan got us as close as she could. She’s too noticeable to go closer. It’s two more days by shuttle. Get comfortable.” She turned back around keying in the engine sequence.

“Alfred, it looks like your new friends are interested in Valkyrja’s design. Why don’t you entertain them.” Keep him off her back for awhile.

The engines hummed to life and the shuttle lifted off the bay floor. =^=Valkyrja to Shuttle bay control. We’re ready to go.=^= =^=Shuttle bay control here. You’re cleared for departure. Counselor, don’t bring anymore Pakleds back, okay. Safe flight=^= She turned to glare at Bog. “This is all your fault.” The shuttle turned slowly and smoothly toward the doors and glided out the doors. =^=Leviathan, this is Valkyrja, we’re cleared. Valkyrja out.=^=

Casela keyed in several commands, the shuttle stopped sending telemetry and went comms dark. She would not have anyone following her to Delotha by leaving a trail behind her. She keyed in the destination and increased to impulse to clear Leviathan and then engaged the warp drive. Casela sat back and propped her feet up on the console. They had a two days cramped in the shuttle, and she wondered who’d have the guts to ask the questions first.
Lt Synthi-er (Zanya)

Huey began to annoy the rest of the party with a detailed rundown of the ship’s systems, particularly as they differentiated from the original specifications. On the up side, any request for food or beverages was was served buy the Butler on a holographic table in the salon.

Huyey and Bog.

Icarus strolled to the front of the cabin and took a seat behind Bog. “Since y’all are going with secret identities, you can refer to me as Pinkerton, Mr.Pinkerton, security specialist, hired gun, bodyguard. . . . they all work.”

“All those would work. What little security is on Delotha, they would probably be relieved that Zanya has a bodyguard. She’s can’t tell what end of a phaser fires and has no sense of self preservation. However they will just send you back to her if you wander off. Probably go with one of the other two.” Casela wasn’t looking at any of them, and she was aware of how odd that description sounded. Internally she was looking forward to watching them observe ‘Zanya’ and her lack of self preservation. Though with any luck there wouldn’t be a need for that this trip. She’d talk to the children, they’d find out where this anomaly was, if there was one, contain it and get out. “And yes, we’re going to alternate identities. The last thing the people of this colony needs is someone to get wind of star fleet hanging around and come asking questions.”

He watched the stars pass by in silence for a short while before speaking again. “Y’know Cas, you’re really good at playing the hard-ass, but you’ve let this ice-cold facade slide just a bit. It’s the kids, the innocent ones that make you crack.”

What was it with the men on this crew? ‘Cas’ why did they all call her ‘Cas’? Cobb she put up with. It made him more relaxed around her. Ryder she put up with, well that was personal. But the rest of the crew, it just irritated her. “Casela,” she corrected quietly. Casela lowered her feet back to the floor and turned in her chair to regard Remington. Her half grin somewhere between half humored or wicked. One never knew. “Oh you think you’ve figured me out, then. That’s so cute!” Her voice sounding positively proud of him. She turned back to the console as something flashed, she corrected the course subtly and turned back. “Ice-cold? You keep coming up with all these new adjectives to describe me. I have been called reckless and most often hot-headed, but never ice-cold. I’ll add that one to my growing list.” She leaned back in the seat relaxed. She certainly wasn’t mad at him. She honestly was not surprised it was Remington who broached the subject first. But was that the point? Everyone had something that drove them. For him it was his parents. And she would be all kinds of stupid to deny it. And Casela was many many things, but stupid was not one of them.

“Now, before you get defensive on me, that’s not an insult, not a bad thing. I understand where you’re coming from, having been orphaned myself. As a kid, it’s nice to know there’s someone out there looking out for you. It’s a comfort knowing that you might have your own guardian angel watching over you. . . .”

Remington (CIO)

She raised a brow, “Is there a question there? Are you asking me if I’m their guardian angel? Are you asking me how I know about this place or my connection? Spit it out. All of you. You’re on this mission too. If you want to know, you have to ask.”
Lt. Synthi-er

“Nope, Counselor. I trust you to keep me in the loop, where that trust ends is when it comes to you keeping yourself safe. Why in the Kovian hells do you think I build Huey?

Bog

Casela rolled her eyes, and then at a flashing from the panel again, she turned her chair and corrected the flight path again. “Alfred, if you change my flight plan one. more. time. Shorter does not mean Safer. Leave. it. alone.” She glares at Bog, “I don’t like arguing with a computer, Bog. Fix it.” Then she turned back to Remington giving him her full attention.
Lt Synthi-er, CNS (Zanya)

“Perhaps using Cobb’s AI as a model may have been presumptuous, Counselor. Huey seams to have a will of his own, but seeing you stay alive is his prime directive. I suspect he has a good reason.” Bog suppressed a smile, he was pleased with Huey.

Bog

Icarus just shook his head at the AI’s response before shifting his gaze back to the CNS. “Well? It’s time for truth or dare. I get it. . . you wanting to help orphans. I’d do the same thing. That’s why I agreed to help, but these kids, this place. . . .there’s more than just helping kids going on here.”
