Raauhl has sent a private communication to Cobb asking if he had the time to meet them in the lounge, for the conversation was official but yet private aswell. He figured placing Cobb somewhere he probabaly felt most relaxed would swing things in his favour and the conversation they were about to have be an easy one. With a glass of whisky in his hand, an empty one opposite and the full decanter to one side he waited do the Captains arrival.

  • Lt Cmdr Raauhl, XO

Zachariah arrived only moments later, his unloosened tunic signifying he had already logged off for the day and was now in search of liquid comfort. Something, he hoped, his First Officer was about to provide. At the sight of the decanter cerulean eyes flooded with glee, for of course it was the first thing to be noticed in the entire room. Slipping into a seat, Zachariah filled his own glass and took several, languorous sips before setting down the drink and finally paying attention to the man whom had summoned him here.

“Commander,” he declared with a nod, “to what do I owe the unexpected pleasure of your company, eh?”

Getting the captain here had been what Raauhl considered the hardest part but now he was here telling his commanding officer what he wanted was quickly becoming worse. Deciding some liquid courage was what he needed he filled his glass and drank it down in one. “I imagine you have noticed or heard some rumours, accusations even flying around concerning myself and Lt Synthi-er.” He looked to Cobb to gauge his reaction.

-LtCmdr Raauhl, XO

Zachariah’s eyebrows rose to his hairline at the sight of the usually controlled Commander downing his drink in one. But eternally respectful of drinking etiquette, if this was the pace he was setting then who was Cobb to disagree? His own, singular swallow appeared more comfortable, less desperate, but then he was not the one with an announcement to make.

He refilled both their glasses as he listened to Ryder speaking, emitting a soft chuckle at the mention of rumours flying around the ship. The captain had since found himself also a subject of interest where the ship’s scuttlebutt was concerned, so he held a measure of empathy for his XO in this regard. A measure insufficient, however, to prohibit teasing entirely.

“Aye, Lt Synthi-er and most of the other women on the ship,” he replied, laughing. But then quickly his expression grew serious and, with genuine concern, he added, “I don’t put much stock in rumours, Raauhl. And I am yet to find any reason for concern where your professional duties are involved. So, what’s on your mind, eh?”

Raauhl let the other woman comment slide, “As XO I have a duty of care to this crew and high responsibility but when it comes to Lt Synthi-er, she… We understand each other, I think what I’m trying to inform you is of our official relationship as per orders any relationship especially within the command team is subject to review by the commanding officer. I don’t want anyone thinking I’m being to kind or picking favourites l and especially not wanting people to think I’m dating half the ship, which is most certainly untrue”

Cobb chuckled softly and placed a hand on Ryder’s shoulder. “I have never, not for one minute, considered that to be true,” he attempted to reassure the other man. “I was merely teasing. To tell you the truth, Raauhl, I envy your ability to socialise and form friendships so easily with the crew. My own social skills are…somewhat rusty.”

Another laugh as the captain gulped down a helping of his new measure.

“As for Cas,” he dispensed with the formalities of ranks and titles, “I’m glad to hear things are going so well between the pair of you. She’s a good woman, Raauhl, a true fighter. She deserves a bit of happiness. And so do you.”
