As the back of the transport opened, the first thing that those in the bay would notice is four guys in coveralls moving out to help offload the delivery that the Leviathan had managed to score in deep space.

Raauhl made an effort to meet and great as many new members to the Leviathan as possible, their job here was perhaps more dangerous than most within Starfleet and the Federation as a whole so making people feel at home and welcome sometimes made the difference. Today he had been awaiting the arrival of a new Security Ensign, security on the Leviathan was always a difficult one of him to manage, with the RTF also running shop he often found disputed between the two departments, particularly when dealing with threats however since the beginning of their mission those disputes disappeared and a symbolic relationship had started to form between them.

The next would be a head of coal black hair topping the slim form of a woman with a cargo bag over her left shoulder. She called out a thanks to some unseen person behind her, but then she turned to face the ship’s bay she had just arrived in. A hand rose to push back the ebon waterfall and reveal a pair of crystalline blue eyes that almost looked like blue hued diamonds in the bright lights. She wasn’t clad in the usual uniform. Travel for long periods in the restrictive clothing bothered her to no end. It was bad enough she had been stuck on the transport almost three days, which, for her, was a lifetime. Shivering visibly and rolling her shoulders, she stepped off the ramp and headed for the door to the ship. Food, shower, and a good long go in the holodeck beating something up. That was her immediate list of priorities. Though, maybe not in that order.

Security Officer

Having watched the transport land, on time from it days long journey he knew to keep the conversation short and light. The last thing a new ensign wanted was to be badgered by the XO. “Ensign Anders I assume?” He asked easily recognising her from her profile picture which Starfleet had kindly given them along with her administrative instruction. He noticed her shiver and wondered if it was the Leviathans environmental controls or if the shuttle had increased its temperature which was a trick employed to invite sleep during long journeys. “I hope your Journey wasn’t too arduous. “

  • Lt Cmdr Raauhl, XO

Jewels had been about to ask the security officer at the door for her room assignment when the man with a disarming smile came to ask about her well being. She knew he was the XO, not just from the uniform, but from the file on the ship she had received. CO, XO, Doc, and her own supervisor were among those she had memorized. “Lieutenant Commander, Raauhl. A pleasure. Yes, I’m LIe… I’m Anders.” She bit back a half hitched breath as she recalled she wasn’t a Lieutenant anymore. “And no, it wasn’t arduous.” She wasn’t about to say that the trip had been strenuous, and her anxiety level was just starting to come down. The last thing you admitted to the first Commanding Officer you meet is that transports make you want to kill yourself.

“I pray you didn’t come down here just for me. I am sure I could have found my quarters on my own. And I’m sure you have plenty more pressing things than babysitting an Ensign.” Apparently the trip had affected her more than she thought. She bit her lip and took a deep breath. Squaring her shoulders, she shook her head trying to clear it. “Forgive me, Sir. I just wasn’t expecting you.” She fell silent wondering if she was already on his watch list in less than a dozen sentences.

He held up a hand to silence her internal worries, having done this many times he’d heard plenty of anxious ideas as to why he may be there. “Not to worry Ensign, I am used to being unexpected but I find I get a more honest response when I turn up unannounced.” He couldnt help but notice the startling similarities between Casela and Juliet, of which he knew was her first name from her file. “I like to meet as many new members to the ship personally, work permitting and I had the time to make sure you arrived in one peice. Wouldn’t want one of our new security officer getting lost now” He gave her another reassuring smile.

“I bet you’re eager to locate and settle into your quarters so I’ll accompany you there before parting, does that sound ok with you?” And as a second thought, “Oh and call me Raauhl, especially when we’re not around the Captain or other ranking officers I find it helps promote a healthier working environment”

  • Lt Cmdr Raauhl, XO

“Then I guess it’s fair to have you call me Anders, or Juliet.” She wasn’t ready for anyone to call her Jewels. Especially the XO. “And thank you. Yes, getting to my quarters would be appreciated.” She let him lead the way into the hall before she spoke up again.

“So you prefer to meet everyone in person so you can see which direction they topple over upon meeting you, huh? Guess it’s a good thing in case you’re ever beside them again in a panic situation. Avoid the side they topple to, huh?” She smiled slightly, though it didn’t quite reach her eyes.

” Yes and no, it’s not a test more just an observation. It also gives me a sum of thier character I like to get to k ow someone personally instead of just reading thier file over and over until one day I bump Into them” He walked with his hands behind his back as he set the pace slow but direct.

“So since I have your ear, what are your expectations for security officers on your ship? Aside from the usual duties of keeping you and the Captain alive?” This time the smile was a bit more genuine.

“Keep the rest of the crew and yourself alive too of course” Raauhl chuckled, “You’re obviously aware by now from your briefings that this ship operates to a different set of rules and while it means we get ourselves Into and out off danger a lot more it doesn’t mean we throw out what makes us Starfleet, that being said you’ll be facing challenges I suspect that not even our greatest members have thought off, I suppose all I ask from you is that you remember what made you become a security officer and use it to guide you, through thick and thin. I’m sorry I sound like such a cryptic.”

  • Lt Cmdr Raauhl, XO

“Not cryptic at all. I knew what I was getting into when I volunteered. It was you or the Wolverine. You struck me as less than a prison vessel. And hopefully not as ‘expendable’ to the Fleet. And I appreciate the desire to know your crew.” As they rounded the corner towards the lift, she shook her head. “My guess is you will find out when you read my file. I’m an Ensign for the second time. You will read I was not the greatest of people. But what you won’t read is that I am loyal. To a fault. You have my word I will never betray you, the Captain or the ship. I want you to know that when you read my file.” She didn’t look at him, not wanting to see what she would guess would either be a grin of satisfaction at her confession without bring prompted, or a scowl of disapproval at yet another misfit to deal with.

“I appreciate your honesty and your loyalty, I have already read your file and know about your previous assignments. It is unfortunate your decision to join us is the lesser of two evils but I have no doubt that you will fulfil your duties” He paused as they neared the turbo lift, “What would do you hope to achieve during your time serving with us? And don’t worry nothing said will be held against you I’ve heard it all from promotion to escape” He reached out an arm and opened the doors allowing her to step through first with an out reached arm.

  • LtCmdr Raauhl, XO

She nodded at the gesture and stepped into the lift, silence following them as she contemplated the answer to that question. It wasn’t till he made the request for her floor that she finally answered. “I don’t know. I know it’s not ‘escape’. I have nothing to escape from. And as for promotion,” she laughed but it was sharp and bit short, “I don’t see that happening anytime soon. If you were going to make me give you an answer, I guess the answer would be purpose.” For the first time since they had started speaking, he would sense an honesty in her answer and a slight rip in her tough exterior.

But just as he would notice it, if he did, it would be gone and the shielding would be back up. “And you have already given me that. Captain, you, ship and crew. I can live with that if you can.”

=/\= Surda to Rahuul. I heard you snatched up my new officer before I got down there. Just tell me when to interrupt your tour. =/\=
-Surda, CoS

She hadn’t planned on seeing the CoS til later that day. Seems the ship was better linked on information than she thought. It actually pleased her. “Huh.. took my last supervisor two days to realize I was even aboard.” She and him never did manage to get along very well.

He chuckled, “You’ll soon learn that everyone on this ships knows everyone and everything, the jungle drums are certainly loud on this boat” Raauhl tapped his comm badge =^=Apologies Lieutenant, I am just showing the Ensign to her quarters and then she’s all yours. I promise not to scare her off=^=

“Now, you said something about purpose. And I hope you find that here, I know I have.” Rauuhk looked wistfully to his front before back to her, “I didn’t look at your personal biography just your career anything I need to know?”

  • LtCmdr Raauhl, XO

=/\=If she gets scared off I’m enacting mandatory defense training for all bridge officers. Call me whenever you’re ready to pass her on. =/\=
-Surda, CoS

Juliet found herself smiling. It was an odd sensation because she hadn’t done it in a long time. Not without it being forced out of societal necessity. As the CoS signed off, she nodded to the XO. “I guess I had better drop my bag in my quarters and hightail it to him, huh? I would hate to be the cause of defensive training for you Officers because of my failings.” She was teasing, but at the same time, serious. She really didn’t know the CoS well enough to call his bluff. And the last thing she wanted was another ship wanting nothing to do with her.

The thought made her drop the smile as she walked with him to her room. “My purpose shouldn’t be getting everyone cycled with punishments.” She smiled once more but her guard was back up.

(trying to stay out of hot water at least till day 3) lol

“That is perhaps a wise decision, if you continue I have know doubt you’ll settle in just fine her in the Leviathan and besides after a while the ship seems small and you bump into people form time to time so don’t be a stranger my door is always open if you ever need anything.” He offered sincerely with a smile as they neared the end of their journey

  • LtCmdr Raauhl, XO

As they paused at her door, she nodded. The smile she gave back was probably the most genuine he had seen from her yet. “I will remember that, Sir. Thank you. Though I promise not to be a nuisance. I appreciate the escort as well. I am sure you have plenty of other things to see to so I will take my leave, if I may. I should clean up a bit before seeing the Chief.” She palmed open the door and set her back inside before offering her hand to the XO. “I won’t let you down.”
