Raauhl let the other woman comment slide, “As XO I have a duty of care to this crew and high responsibility but when it comes to Lt Synthi-er, she… We understand each other, I think what I’m trying to inform you is of our official relationship as per orders any relationship especially within the command team is subject to review by the commanding officer. I don’t want anyone thinking I’m being to kind or picking favourites l and especially not wanting people to think I’m dating half the ship, which is most certainly untrue”
Cobb chuckled softly and placed a hand on Ryder’s shoulder. “I have never, not for one minute, considered that to be true,” he attempted to reassure the other man. “I was merely teasing. To tell you the truth, Raauhl, I envy your ability to socialise and form friendships so easily with the crew. My own social skills are…somewhat rusty.”
“Come now sir, you seemed to have handled the Ferengi well” Raauhl took his own gulp of fluids.
Cobb’s mouth opened as if to voice a reply, but then with an air of dejection his eyes fell to his drink. So Raauhl gets to spend his days with Casela and all I’m good for are some blasted Ferengi?
But of course, there was Quinn. Should he tell Ryder of Quinn? Or would it be premature when Zachariah himself was still grappling with the nature of their connection.
Another laugh as the captain gulped down a helping of his new measure.
“As for Cas,” he dispensed with the formalities of ranks and titles, “I’m glad to hear things are going so well between the pair of you. She’s a good woman, Raauhl, a true fighter. She deserves a bit of happiness. And so do you.”

Raauhl was relieved to hear the captain give what he assumed was his blessings, “Thankyou sir, we’re good I mean we both have our rough edges but I think over time we’ll work out the kinks, after all this si Casela we’re talking about and lets be honest I sure know how to pick them” The comment was true, she was a tough cookie and her fighter like characteristic didn’t just stick to her duties she carried it like a badge of honor.

“Aye, I commend your taste in companions, lad,” Cobb nodded. His happiness at their relationship was genuine and heartfelt, Synthi-er’s previous trips to the medical bay seemingly forgotten. For a few moments the captain sat back and silently contemplated his drink, feeling at ease with his First Officer despite this being their first off-duty conversation since leaving the base. And suddenly he was berating himself for not checking in on Raauhl sooner. Gods knew, this had been a difficult few months for all of them and, as the head of their away teams, the young Trill had a considerable amount of responsibility on his shoulders.
“How are things going in general, lad?” he sought to put things right. “How are you finding life on this floating nightmare, eh?” he added with a chuckle.
