“Yes sir.” As he steps out with the captain. He then starts to realize that the captain is trying to be nice.

Ensign Hawkeye Logan

The Captain’s pace was maintained across the floor of the CIC and all the way to the turbolift on the other side. At which point he ushered Logan inside and followed immediately after, calling out, before the doors had even fully closed, a sharp =^= Deck 13 =^=

Would the young man recognise the deck number and already know their destination? The captain studied him closely for any reaction, verbal or otherwise.

  • Captain Zachariah Cobb

“Sir are we going to deck 13 for something or is it where my quarters sir.”

Ensign Logan

Cobb chuckled. The lad was sharp, at least.

“Oh, I don’t think you’ve annoyed me anywhere near enough yet to be assigned quarters on deck 13,” he winked, then, all humour vacating his expression, he added, “Deck 13 is our Abell-level containment deck.”

The turbolift came to a halt and Cobb stepped out, pausing to wait for Logan to join him and simultaneously tapping his commbadge. It was too dangerous for them to go in alone. For this, they would need backup.

=^= Lt Surda, this is the captain. Please meet me at Abell containment. =^=

  • Captain Zachariah Cobb

=/\= Aye-aye Captain. =/\= Surda came out of the turbolift shortly after and smiled at the two men. “Captain, Ensign. You called for an escort?”
-Surda, CoS

“Aye, I did,” the captain replied. “Thank you for responding so quickly, Lieutenant.”

As the ensign looks at the CoS and is wondering what’s going. As he is wondering what’s going on he then asks the captain. “Sir what’s going on if you don’t mind me asking sir.” Asked the ensign.

Ensign Hawkeye Logan

With a wink to the CoS, Cobb placed a somewhat reassuring hand on Logan’s shoulder.
“Nothing to worry about, eh, lad,” he shrugged. “I just thought you might want to get a better look at the work we do here. Up close.”

Chuckling, Cobb began to lead the way down an ‘L’ shaped corridor. Once around the turn, they were greeted by the sight of two large, reinforced, tritanium doors. Several automatic locks and bars were positioned across these doors, as well as both a retina scanner and a voice-recognition port. Infront of the doors and seated at a small desk, the terminal recently replaced after its predecessor had been destroyed by the captain, was a lone security officer. At the sight of the party, the woman leaped to her feet and offered a slightly nervous salute.
“Captain Cobb. Lt Surda. How may I help you?”

Cobb glanced from Surda to Hawkeye and then replied with a nod towards the imposing doors. “Ah, this is the newest member of our team, Ensign Logan. He wishes to see some of our less deadly anomalies. And luckily for us, Lt Surda has agreed to give us a grand tour.”

  • Captain Zachariah Cobb

Surda smiled at the woman. “At ease, Deirdre.” The woman nodded and dropped the salute, then cleared her throat. “Yes sirs. Go ahead, I’m sure you both know the protocol.” Surda nodded and gestured for the captain to go ahead. “Age before beauty.”
-Surda, CoS

“Age before beauty? What do you mean exactly?”

Ensign Hawkeye Logan

Zachariah erupted into laughter. “What she means, Ensign,” he chuckled, moving over to the control pad and placing his thumb on the primary reader before nodding for Surda to repeat the action with her own, “is that while I might have cracked more than a few mirrors in my time, I’m also old enough to have learned more tricks than you could even imagine.”

Once Surda’s authorisation had been given, the captain took a step back and allowed the double doors to open, before nodding once again to the security chief and then stepping swiftly inside. Before them lay the yellow, and then beyond that, abell-level containment.

Stepping out of the entryway and onto the metal gantry, the captain paused for Logan and Surda to catch up. Before them the gantry spanned the entire length of the cavernous space, a ten foot wide grid with waist-high handrail on each open side, broken every fifty feet or so by a caged set of metal stairs leading down to the containment floor. Beyond this, on each side of the room and stretching away as far as the eye could see, was a series of what appeared to be metal containers. Huge, solid and reaching almost the full height of the room, each one appeared like an enormous, dull-grey monolith. That view, however was transformed once one peered over the gantry edge…

Fifty feet below them, each monolith rested on the containment floor and displayed an identical set of features - a single, large, reinforced door; a large and colourful control panel mounted into the container wall and displaying myriad readouts on the occupant inside; next to this a terminal with secure comms port and red alert button; and standing to perfect attention on either side of the doorway, an armed and armoured security officer.

“Welcome, Ensign Logan,” Cobb announced, clearly relishing, as always, an opportunity to show off the Leviathan’s greatest feature. “Welcome to Yellow containment.”
It remained perversely curious to the captain, how innocuous these identikit cells appeared from up on high. What Hawkeye did not know, although he was about to find out, was that on the other side of that metal barrier, each anomaly contained within was as unique and deadly as the bespoke containment that held it.

“Shall we take a closer look, Ensign?” Zachariah continued, beginning to head for the nearest stairway and calling over his shoulder as he did so, “Lt Surda, do you have a particular favourite from our guests?”

  • Captain Zachariah Cobb

“Yes sir we shall take a closer look, Captain.” Hawkeye paused as he took a step inside. He then realizes that something is going to be good about this and he knows that something is going to be a great feeling.

He then looks at the security chief and says “So this is the yellow containment? What is this even for?” As the ensign asked to the Security Chief. When he looked back at the captain, he then smiled.

Ensign Hawkeye Logan
