For a brief moment, Zachariah forgot all about Logan and their reason for visiting containment. This was the first time the captain had come face to face with Carroll and, in truth, the flowers were…mesmerising.
Leaning in, his eyes fixed upon the leaves, currently swaying in what appeared to be a deliberate pattern. “Well, will you look at that!” he exhaled, nodding to both Surda and Logan. “Is it trying to talk to us? What do you think it’s saying?”

Surda tilted her head, deciphering the signs. “Meet, good. New people fun. play, want.” She spoke in Orion, unable to translate the signs directly to English. She corrected the grammar and made full sentences before speaking in English again. “She says it’s nice to meet you. New people are fun, and she’d like to play a game.”
-Surda, CoS/Flower Translator“A…game?” Cobb echoed, his eyebrows almost disappearing into his hairline. “What…kind of game?”
“Well sir like Surda did translate it for us the anomaly does like new people. Loves to meet them and loves to play. If I am correct, sir, she’s wanting to come out and play with us. But as a suggestion. I don’t trust the anomaly because we don’t know what she’s wanting to do with us. And besides what if she wants to kill us. You never know what she is capable of. Surda with all do respect I understand that the translator is here but I can easily read thoughts even though I maybe a human I can read thoughts.”

Surda crossed her arms, transforming from faintly amused to commanding. “At attention Ensign.” She waited for a moment, noticing when Ensign Forricci scrambled to stand at attention as well. “Not you Forricci. Let’s have a chat, Logan. For one thing, I am not your friend, nor am I at your rank. If you wish to refer to me, I am either Lieutenant Surda or Chief Surda. Secondly, with all due respect, I am not a translator. The Captain wanted to know what Carroll said, and at no point did either of us ask you to make a judgment.” The two were exactly the same height, so she stood directly in his view and met his eyes. “Now would you like to look me in the eyes and tell me I seem like the kind of person who lets an anomaly out of containment because it asked?” She knew each of her officers was listening in, and she didn’t envy Logan if he made enemies of them here.
-Surda, CoS“I’m sorry if I stepped out of line. I uh dont know what to say. Maybe I should just keep my mouth shut before I get into anymore trouble or issues around here. I will just watch from now on until i am asked to speak.” Logan said. He just then stood there quietly and not said anything. He then looked at the Lieutenant Surda and just keeps his mouth shut completely.

The captain remained silent, aware that Surda had neither requested, or required, his assistance with the situation. And as to her own handling of the matter, Zachariah had to admit that he was impressed. If not a little envious at her controlled calm.
“The Leviathan might be more peculiar than most,” he commented quietly at last, “but she is still a Starfleet vessel, Ensign Logan. And we are still Starfleet officers. So we must behave like Starfleet officers at all times.”Then, turning back to the anomaly, he added, “You are correct, Mr Logan, that we should never trust an anomaly. A fact that Lt Surda here instills in all of her officers. But at the same time, it is a directive of our mission to learn all that we can about these creatures that we contain. Provided we do so with no…or minimal, at least, danger to ourselves.”
A nod to Surda then Cobb suggested, “What do you think, Ensign Logan? Perhaps this game is one that we can play from the other side of this forcefield. Shall we, perhaps, entertain Carroll’s suggestion for a moment?”

“Well sir. Let’s see what the Lt has to say. Honestly as something to do with the game on the other side of the force field. Sir.” As the ensign has suggested.
