Luna and cerenity headed. Silently to the Chief of securitys office. Cerenity refused to speak to anyone since last night’s events. It was about a ten minute walk from her qurters to the CoS’ office. She was quite directed to correct office. She had a bad feeling that she would have to resine from star fleet. Though she was not sure what she would she did not exactly have a home to take Cerenity too.
” Ensign Luna reporting as ordered Ma’am” Luna said. She stared quietly at the wall infront standing at attention. Cerenity stood behind her looking at the ground. The little girl was well aware of how much trouble she had managed to get herself into.
Surda watched the two then sighed. She stood up and walked in front of the two. “Cerenity. When you are reporting to a senior officer, you stand the way your mother is standing until you are told not to.” She then turned to Luna, seeming like a drill sergeant surveying the troops. “You have said you have no intention of sending your daughter away. You have demonstrated you have no intention of teaching her proper behavior on a ship.” She backed up to speak to both of them. “I grew up on a ship, and that ship was even more strict than the Leviathan. Never in my life was I found anywhere I was not supposed to be.” Not that she hadn’t been places she wasn’t supposed to be, but she had never been caught. “Under the rules of my culture, your needs are my responsibility. Both of your needs. Cerenity needs a teacher.” This was one of the responsibilities she had been glad to take on in her youth, and she was beyond willing to claim it again. “I am no schoolteacher, nor am I an appropriate teacher for a random group of children. I am however, willing to help teach Cerenity. Things I do not know I can outsource to different departments.” She could not teach engineering, and her science was limited, but she was well instructed in etiquette and protocols.
” but miss. Surda I’m not part of star fleet so you are not my senior officer. Your also not my mother you can’t do anything to me with out mommy’s permission. We are also on a federation ship, not some random pirate ship.” Cerenity pointed out. She refused to actually look at Surda.
” Cerenity not now my apologies Ma’am, I promise you I did not teach her that and have no clue where she got picked it up “Luna said more then a little embarrassed. Cerenity hid behind her mother suddenly relzing she had made things worse. ” I want to go home” cerenity whimpered.
” With all do respect Ma’am this was the first time cerenity has ever left are quarters in the middle of the night it was extremely unusual and I now have protocols in place to keep it from happening again. As of the first insistint in the labs it has only accured once. I have apologized for it and have looked into a found way to remedy the situation.” Luna said quietly. She was not happy that Surda was implying that she was unable to take care of and meet Cerenitys needs. But she did deserve this lecture it was her fault. Maby she was a bad mom. She was now completely unwilling to let Surda teach Cerenity anything at the moment. She was not going to give e anyone else reason to think she was unfit to be a parent.
“No Cerenity, you aren’t an officer. You are a dependent, but you live on this ship and that means you have a responsibility. Part of that responsibility is following the rules.” She almost laughed at the description of “some random pirate ship,” but managed to keep a straight face. “And although this ship does not follow my culture, I still have a responsibility to each and every person on the Leviathan. Part of my responsibility is making sure no one is terrified by a small winged child who may or may not be an anomaly planning to brutally murder them.” In fact, had she not already know there would be a child with wings she would have thought Cerenity was an anomaly sneaking into the science labs.
Cerenity just glared at her from behind her mother.
Surda sat down and gestured for the other two to follow her lead. “Luna. You have heard the saying, “It takes a village to raise a child?” This is your village. There is no reason that you should have to keep an eye on your daughter all the time. When she left, she could have commed me. If she wants to visit the labs, all she has to do is ask. We are willing to accommodate her, so why not take the opportunity?” In fact, if the girl had been a bit older, she would have offered to invite Cerenity to training sessions.
Luna did not move she had the strang paranoid feeling that this was a trap. She wanted to tell Surdar about the file the ARU had on cerenity bit could not tell her infront of the child. ” I see your point unfortunately that opportunity is dangerous” Luna said.
Cerenity took that moment to speak up ” why are you afraid. Of everything mommy it has to do with why we have wings and others humas dont. I want daddy he always understood me” Cerenity snaped.
Luna blinked at looked at the child. ” Do not talk to me like that for one. its not your job to worry about why I do what I do. I am doing what I feel is best for you. Thired you dad died a year ago he is not coming back” Luna said.
” I hate you” cerenity screamed then sat on the floor her back to both Luna and Surda. Lune brok her stance for a brief moment as if she were going to aproch the child then changed her mind. ” Perhaps Cerenity should not be her for this conversation” Luna said a sad tone in her voice. She could not totally hide it. It hurt to think Cerenity heated her.
Surda sighed and knelt in front of Cerenity, offering a hand. “Cerenity, you’ve asked me not to treat you like a baby, so I won’t. Death is a fact of life. We will all die one day, and people will die after us, just as they’ve died before. Hir jmog, uhi nuiglar p’tinj tuln.” The remembrance rolled off her tongue easily, and she translated it quietly. “Not dead, just fighting far away. Everyone has lost people. It’s important to hold onto the ones we still have.” She felt her own losses keenly, and as soon as her mind wandered to one she could feel the injury she had received beginning to ache. She turned back to Luna and nodded. “Should I call someone to take her back to your quarters?”
Cerenity glared up at her. “He’s not dead the shadows on the Viking captured him.” She said. She was admitted about that fact. Luna shook her head. ” I appreciate your trying but she had had episodes like this since we lost Loki. I think it’s best that she return home” Luna said. Cerenity spring to her feet. ” No Mommy im not going im there’s of you not answering me.” Cerenity said glaring at her mom. Luna shook her head. Cerenity Crossed her arms and glared at Luna. ” the answer is no end of discussion” Luna said.
After Cerenity left Luna looked to Surda. ” im sorry about that she has had an aditude problem since we got here. I don’t think she is taking the move well. She has always been a difficult child. But this is just…” Luna said shaking her head. She was quite for a moment. ” To better answer your question. The ARU have files on Cerenity. Who ever is in charge of this project or what ever you want to call it is after my baby. I don’t know who to trust. In this village. ” Luna said. It was clear Luna was over protective. Witch was driving Cerenity’s behavior. Cerenity was so determined to prove she was gown up, she wanted to prove that mom did need to always be watching her.
“Trust the village leaders. Let her learn, surrounded by people who will protect her.” Surda urged Luna quietly, then nodded. She unclasped the collar of her shirt and tugged it aside, revealing a stark white scar beginning at her collarbone and clearly continuing on. It seemed to have been stitched the way old surgeries were performed, and closer inspection would reveal it was a rush job. “When I was 16, I was sent on a mission to retrieve medicine stolen from a small colony. While there, I discovered children had been stolen as well. The thief was displeased when they escaped with the medicine, but I was still sloppy enough that I did not.” She fastened her uniform back up and placed her hands at her side. “I would do it all over again if I needed to.” It wasn’t her worst scar, but it was the most accessible, and she was not sure she had the willpower to tell some of her older stories.
” why do you want to teach her?” Luna asked she was still skeptical. She was more trying to determine Surda’s intentions. She could not be sure she was doing this with the intent of helping yet. She could be trying to get Cerenity alone to study or force onto one of the containment decks.
Surda sighed. ” Caring for people, providing for them, it’s the epitome of success for Orions. Teaching children is sacred. Our gods always have multiple meanings. Merenaya is the goddess of judgment and the goddess of teaching. She represents the most sacred parts of our lives, along with two other goddesses.” She tries not to, but her mind drifts to the other two, Ajira the goddess of death and fertility, and Jaa, the goddess of wealth and responsibility. “I do my best to live by my commandments, even though some of them are unachievable for me.” She held out a small knife to Luna, waiting for her to touch it. “Vows must be sworn on sacred objects in the first lanugage. This is a knife of Ajira. Jmus mir sozjj, tuurolam mliuht dalb naxijirit.” I swear your daughter’s safety by means of my soul.
Luna reluctantly put her hand lightly against the blade. She was not sure about any of thin but felt giving Surda a chance was worth a try. ” alright you can teach Cerenity. But I worn you if you harm her there will be no where in the universe safe for you” Luna said. She took a moment to calm herself as she did so she realized that she know nothing of any cultures. ” im not familiar with your culture im afraid i may put to much efficiency on Security.
“If you would like to learn, you could join Cerenity for a class.” Her voice seemed light, but the idea of someone else knowing her culture almost made her long for her childhood, when everyone knew what she was doing and what it meant.
Luna smiled ” you know i would like that. I would also like to see your combat style” Luna said. She thought for a moment. ” I think Cerenity will pick up what you have to teach realy quietly” she giggled. Then a series look crossed her face. ” you sure about teaching her i can barely keep up with her and im her mother” Luna said. It was true Cerenity often did circles around Luna hens why she had had gotten into places she was not sapose to be several times.
Surda grinned gamely. “Speaking of combat… I’m sure you’ve heard of Orion dancefighting. I know you don’t want her learning to fight, but if she learned to dance forms she could later add weapons too, it might be easier for her to learn later.” She leaned forward to whisper. “On top of that, dancing is very tiring. She’d probably end up sleeping more.”
” iv considered trying Ballet with her but she was unitirested but makes you dance former would be more interesting to her” Luna said giggling. A serious look crossing her face. ” I wish would sleep more often i never get a break is it bad to wish for five minutes of pice and quiet” Luna joked.
OOC: I don’t know if either of you read/watched Game of Thrones, but this is making me think of Syrio Forel teaching Arya to sword fight and I am loving it! Great job, both of you!
OOC: I hate game of throws i don’t like how they portray dragons lol… omg can we have an enteligint dragon as an anomaly lol sorry random thought.
OOC: IDK about Game of Thrones, but it’s definitely giving me Star Wars vibes.
Surda smiled mischievously. “She will be especially well suited, especially if she can figure out how to use her wings to offset her weight. It will certainly tire her out. I remember during my training we would sleep for 10 hours after.”
” how yung were you when you started” Luna asked. She thought for a moment. ” you will be lucky if you can get her to stay on the ground everything is fly with her. I can’t tell you how may time she has nerely hurt herself trying to copy me not to mention her not paying extreme close attention to her sorondinhs when she flys.” Luna giggled
Surda leaned back and hummed in thought. “I’m around 25 now so maybe 4?” Ages were just a guess for her anyway, particularly with the differences in day cycles on different planets.
