He watched her silently, wondering what was going through her mind. Nothing ever seemed simple between them, not even a panic in the woods. Raauhl guessed it was because they were both similar in many ways but different in so many others, they cared too much about things that other wouldn’t and they both made quick rash decision especially when it comes to one another but yet he wouldn’t change it.

“Whats wrong?” he asked finally breaking the silence and wanting to make her feel safe again.

  • Lt Cmdr Raauhl, XO

She had started this policy of telling him whatever she was thinking. He’d wondered once and she figured since he couldn’t really read her mind the way she could his, it was only fair. But more it was a reflection of how much she trusted him, that she could tell him anything, no matter what it was. She took a deep breath, stretched her legs back out, dropped her hand from the necklace and looked at him, trying to put order to the jumble of thoughts, emotions swirling around in her head. “There is a reason I haven’t gone back after Mad Man, and I would never forgive myself if something happened to you. When we first came on board you never would have suggested keeping a secret like that from your captain. I work in secrets and shadows and disinformation.” He was a grown man and could decide for himself, but that didn’t stop her from worrying how her past could affect him. But that really wasn’t what was bothering her. “Are we really…Ryder how serious is this?” she made a small motion between the two of them. “It’s one thing to move in together, it’s a totally different thing to say we are going…” she paused trying to wrap her head around the idea. It was something she’d given up on a long time ago. It wasn’t…”Are we really going to start a family? Are we that serious? It’s one thing to move in together and if it doesn’t work, it doesn’t matter. You add a child to that, it’s not fair to Gen if we aren’t that serious.” And that was not just living in the now, but for a future, together. And it was dangerously close to the fact Cobb was teasing her about Ryder asking her to marry him, and the idea that they were headed in that direction, is what was bothering her. “I’m not saying I don’t want to, or that I think this is too fast,” everything they did was too fast, “But for all my skills,” and she grins a little poking fun at herself, “I did not see our first date, turning into this.”
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS

“If you had told me before we started this is how our date would turn out id have taken you to medical myself” He laughed, “Cas, I’m serious and I think we are too, I have had my fair share of romantic experiences in thise body and others, let me tell you that this, what we have is as wholesome as the best of them.” He leaned over and kissed her, “Lets take the risk, besides if all else fails I’ll just have you transferred to a deep space science vessel” he teased kissing her again.

  • Raauhl,

His fair share of romantic experiences? Seems Cobb wasn’t far off the mark then. She raised a single brow in an attempt to be serious, but the grin at the corners of her mouth ruined the effect, “In that case, I will, of course, defer to your greater experience.” She kissed him back, all the while berating herself for being such a sucker when he kissed her. Then with a mental shrug, ‘Oh I need to get over myself.’ It was a strange feeling to her, but Casela felt very content in that moment. “I am dead serious, Ryder” the tone of her voice conveying how much she had given up and how much, how deeply, she wanted this life with him. She laughed softly, “Oh I like risk, didn’t you know that?” Then she laughed harder, “Deep space science vessel? You can’t get rid of me that easily. You’ll have to come up with something else.” Just like he wouldn’t openly admit he liked her hotheaded attitude she’d never admit how much she like him teasing her. This time she put her arms around him as he kissed her.
Casela

“Oh I can think of few things” His own arms wrapped around her and he kissed her back. “So how do we let Gen know, and when? She’ll have to agree to it too and then there’s the matter with getting it formalised… damn” He thought, “Im going to need to remove my officeroom it she’s to have her own room”

  • Cmdr Rauuhl, XO

“I have found with Gen it’s better to say it as simply as possible. She sees things very differently; probably because of whatever happened with the Phantom. Sometimes she seems confused by simple things, and others she seems to see far beyond the superficial. Better to just tell her exactly what we are thinking about doing, and then explain. As for when,” that was a harder question. “Should we wait till after we” yes she said we and not I, “find out about Mad Man? Or do we tell her before and explain about him as well? As for your office, I think that is an excellent idea to make it her room, if she agrees. We can always make you an office on deck 24. We don’t get guests that often, and it would be big enough for you to meet with a larger group of people. It would stop you from having to travel to the briefing or conference lounge on deck 23.” Casela never understood why star ships were not made with a specific office space for the ship’s XO. The CO and DHs got their own offices, why didn’t the XO. For everything they were responsible for, it made no logical sense to her. Another suggestion occurred to her and made grin mischievously, “Or there is plenty of empty office space on the counseling deck. It will make it very convenient for when we do crew evaluations.”

Considering the idea of him loosing his ‘home office’ space. “We can’t do much about how much we have to work, or when, but if Gen does want us as parents, then not bringing our work home is a good idea.” Casela also thought it might be a good idea for them even if Gen didn’t want them as a family. She and Ryder worked together a lot, and it would be good to have that separation of work and personal life. “When do you think we’ll have to tell Cobb about this?” Obviously if they took official custody of Gen he would have to be told, but did he have to know right away?
Casela

“I don’t think we should wait to tell her, it doesn’t serve a purpose to stall” He said answering one of her few questions. “I don’t mind giving up my office space and I think using the conference rooms will be fine I don’t want to give anyone the wrong impression that I’ve moved my office just to be closer to you, because that’s why I’d do it” he kissed her again, before answering her final question. “I don’t think Cobb will mind he seemed rather content when I told him we were dating.”

“Knowing Gen, she’s probably eaves dropping on this conversation anyway. And if not, she’s outside floating around the ship with Fenrir.” The girl was always up to something, and it had taken Casela the majority of the last few months to accept what was the norm for Gen and learn to not panic every time she did something ‘strange.’ “We can call her once we get home,” and the idea made her smile. It was easy to tease, but at the heart of it all, Casela was concerned for the well being of the crew. And with the high stress of their mission, she would never purposely and personally add to that stress. They came to the counseling deck to find reprieve, and there was a large amount of inherent trust that went into that. “Though it’s an amusing thought to have your office near mine, it would be bad for morale. You are well liked by the crew, but having the command staff offices where their deepest secrets are revealed would put many ill at ease.” She kissed him back until he pulled away. “Oh the captain is more than content. I am more than happy to leave that conversation to you though.” She kissed him again briefly, “Let me know how it goes.”

It was then Raauhl had a glancing thought, “If we do this though, with Gen and living together Mad man should take a place on the shelf atleast for now, the last thing I’d want to do would be give Gen a home and then leave.”

  • Raauhl

She didn’t sigh, exactly, but she was suddenly no longer completely relaxed. Were they were going to fight about this. “I can’t do that. I can’t do this, knowing he’s out there looking for me. I know you don’t like it,” she took his hand, wanting him to understand. “I agree, really I do, that it’s not right to give her a home and then leave. But I can’t put you both at risk because I was careless.” It would be simple to ignore the reports, the questions circulating subspace messages about her, but she would not put Ryder and Gen at risk because she wanted to seize this life he offered her, blindly. “But, it can wait till I get confirmation, and then we can decide, together.” There was a question in her voice. Maybe it was time he saw the records, so he could understand her fear.
Casela

He had to respect her decand trust she knew what she was doing, if thier relationship was going to work they would have to have at least some trust. “I wouldn’t ask for more” He smiled at her, taking in her beauty before adding. “Now, shall we finish this? I feel like both our lives are going to get a lot busier and prefilled with…” he mocked a shudder, “Parenting duties.”
