Re-entering the briefing room the lights brightened and with a fresh canister of coffee Raauhl made his was over to the chair he had been sitting in all morning, before pulling it out and sitting into it. He filled his empty mug with the fresh brew and activated the terminal and let out a small groan, he’d forgotten who was next. This was possibly the only time he thought that dating Casela was going to bite him in the arse. He organised his things and waited, though knowing Casela he wouldn’t be waiting long.

As was her habit, Casela ate while she finished the notes from her last morning appointment. Then she went to check on Gen, but rather than meeting with Dean and Watkins before the next round of appointments, she left for her MPAR meeting. “Hey Lt. remember this is a professional meeting, cut him some slack.” Casela rolled her eyes, “Not a chance, but you may have to rescue me from the Brig later.” Now that they had moved in together, their relationship was common knowledge and Casela was expected to take a decent amount of good natured ribbing. It was difficult for her though, having her life on display, that was actually true. She grabbed her PaDDs and left for the briefing room. She was early, no surprise there, but Raauhl wasn’t. She thought briefly about going in and sitting down but that was probably too close to her picking the lock on his door, and wouldn’t start the meeting off on a good note. He’d been tense and worrying over these meetings for the last few days. So since she had time to kill, she went to get a very large cup of coffee. She’d taken the hypo Dr. Knox had given her, but she wasn’t over the problem yet. She returned and entered right as Raauhl was sitting down.

The Trill XO noticed the door open as he planted himself into the chair hed been sitting in before lunch and saw Casela, he allowed himself a small smile before putting on his XO’s face on. “Lieutenant, please come in and sit down,” He said simply trying to hide any bias he may have for her, he still had a job to do.

She had two PaDDs for him. The first was information for the meeting, the other was her medical time off request. He was stressed far too much over these meetings, and this one in particular. She didn’t need to be telepathic to know that. His posture, body language, and the tight squint in the corner of his eyes told her that much. Humor was always a good way to release the tension. So why not a little at herself? On the second PaDD, which he wouldn’t read, hopefully, till the meeting was officially over, she added a message. You know when you think that loud I can hear you right? I’ve been known to do many things, but I do not bite. She sat down in the extra chair, handed him the PaDDs, took a sip of her coffee, and sat back. “Where shall we start, Cmdr?”

Raauhl took the two PaDDs and placed them to his right away from the now smaller pile fo PaDDs which had the full official report for each department head. “Lets start off with your statistics, for any department, the head should be well diverse in their current number. I have the official numbers here but I know that they don’t always get updated, a procedure I hope will be met going forward from this moment. I understand you have other commitments on the ship but its no excuse not to avoid the paperwork side of your department.” He hated his job sometimes.

Okay so he had a point, she was horrible at paperwork. It was…against her nature to leave a trail and she tended to leave it for other things she had to do. Crewman Dean was always bugging her about the paperwork. He was probably laughing at her right now. However, she wasn’t completely behind in that. Or was she? “Which paperwork specifically, am I missing?” Because the four gods of Betazed knew there was more paperwork than was logical to go around for her department, on a normal ship. “If it’s crew evaluations, they are complete, but can not be submitted until reviewed by a member of the command staff. And since it has yet to be decided who that will be, they have been sitting in the nether, waiting for a decision.” That probably sound more snippy than she meant it, but as a colleague, forgetting the rest, he should know her well enough by now to know she wasn’t being. “If you’re talking session notes, my staff and I are still waiting for ARU command to tell us how they wanted it encrypted. Secrets and clearance and what not. If it’s duty rosters....” yeah she was bad about the duty rosters, “those are probably not up-to-date.” There were only 5 of them in her department, the roster didn’t change. Why in the world she needed to update it and clarify her choices and then justify them every week was beyond her. There was no other way to work the roster. What else was she missing? It wasn’t surprising something fell through the cracks. When was the last time she actually had a full day off? Before she came on board. Oh gods…she didn’t have to do one of these with Manhattan did she? Penal colony, they could have sent her to a penal colony instead.

“Its none of those, lieutenant.” Raauhl remarked taking some notes, “In fact, its simply just your report on the ship’s morale, as chief counsellor its your responsibility to ensure the crew’s morale is assessed and if need be intervention made be it by individual sessions or a group one, such as a film night.” he took some more notes, “As for a decision on the crew evaluations its also down to the Chief Counsellor to dictate which command staff to be accountable for their signing off. We have a lot on our plate and sometimes need to be reminded, that being said if you send them to me on a quarterly basis we can then have them checked, sent back to your department before being submitted, if we keep up the practice we can stop any back log.”

“Ah. I have been giving those to Cpt Cobb on a daily basis, during those morning breakfast meetings he insists on. (OOC Sausage and Scuttlebutt) I was not aware it was a formal report. As for events,” How to put this in perspective. Gods she was tired, there was not enough time in the day. She took a long sip of her coffee. “Perhaps Watkins is a better choice for determining good morale events. Unless you want to count RTF tactical training.” It was a bad joke, and she was a bit peeved at herself. “Look, Cmdr, I don’t put my name to them. It’s more important for the crew to see the captain, yourself, and Manhattan as those sources. To make the crew and its various divisions work together. The Halloween party, Cobb’s welcome to the ship in the lounge, Manhattan securing us time on that holiday ARU planet. Even Surda’s co-training are all morale events. I won’t take credit for them, but I will take credit for putting the bug in their ears. Part of morale is giving the crew someone to be loyal too and that’s not me. I will find the time, to arrange more.” There was a hint of…something else, frustration maybe? And she was supposed to be taking 8 days off with 5 days light duty? Yeah next thing on the agenda-cancel medical treatments. She was not meant to be in charge like this. “As for crew evals, regulations require me to meet in person with command. I’ve sent several requests.” To both Raauhl and Cobb, but with everything going on there hadn’t been time. “I’ll have the other on your desk today.”

‘Adapt, Girly, and stop feeling so superior.’ If T’Jal could do it, then it has to be doable. She just had to figure it out. She wasn’t trained for this. Coddling and holding hands…not her area of expertise- she’d have to figure it out.
Lt Synthi-er CNS

Raauhl continued to take notes, “This isn’t a witch hunt Lieutenant, there no blame to be passed around here.” He leaned back again, “Lets just try to encourage some more inter-crew events, outside of what the command staff organise, while I appreciate that you’re a very busy person splitting your time between your two duties I’d hate to have to come back to you about this.” He said closing the topic. “The request may have been received and ill look into those requests, if they’re not acknowledged perhaps chase us up” He smiled. “Anyways, your department is performing above the standard line.” He took the PaDD from the top fo his small pile and handed it to her. “I’ve outlined some recommendations, Moving on I’d like you to also explain your short, mid and long term goals for your department.” He readied his PaDD to take more notes.
