Raauhl made a mental note to replicate Casela something nice when he finished, he figured he’d do as much since that interview. Next time he’ll just roll the interview in with medical or ask Captain Cobb to do it. Letting out a sight the next interview wasn’t going to be any easier, in his preparation he even had a copy of rules of acquisition and the Starfleet manual on dealing with ferengi just in case. While Mr Lazol wasn’t actually required to undergo the MPAR his department was.

  • Cmdr Raauhl, XO

Lazol wanted to figure out just how he could get out of this mess. Well, he saw it as a mess anyways. Reports were something that he never enjoyed and Starfleet always found a need for them when it came to ‘how someone was doing’ or ‘how a department was performing’ Lazol didn’t give two targ’s rear ends about the minutia of how it was run as long as he got results and the profit flowed in. So far this adventure with the ARU was paying off as the research was making him a pretty penny while his small fleet continued to do business elsewhere. The reports he had were slim in nature and he was in the middle of an experiment when his reminder came through and he shouted something rather unpleasant in his native tongue before yelling at his subordinates to take over and that it’d better be complete by the time he returned. He approached the room and simply entered without ringing the chime or anything so formal. He approached the desk and sat down, sliding the rather scant reports to the XO and said, “Well?”

Lazol, CSO

“Well” Raauhl said his face remaining calm and collected, he new this interview was going to be far different to anything he’d ever have done. “Well You’re here so that’s a start I really thought I’d receive a message saying you had Dorek syndrome before making a miraculous recovery. So thankyou for coming” He took the reports and put them to one side. “I’m aware that you technically do not fall inside the guidelines for an official report and therefor this is going to be more of a conversation, see how you’re settling in and how your department is adjusting. Do you have any questions before we get started?

  • Cmdr Raauhl, XO

Lazol filed the suggestion of Dorek syndrome for next year and thought it was rather brilliant all things considered. He smiled and leaned back in his chair and said, “Do you want me report as spoken like a Ferengi or as I’m pretending to be a Starfleet Officer?” He asked a little crassly even if it was an honest question. “As a Ferengi I can tell you that I’ve increased the department’s profit margins from ‘non-existent’ to ‘bringing in a decent income’. Workplace injuries are down despite the increased productivity and focus on profit, and I only lost one NE to Dave this last quarter.” He said without a hint of irony, even if it was a joke. “As a Starfleet Officer? It took a little while for my crew to fully wrap their heads around the idea that yes, I am the boss and yes, we would be doing things my way. Experiments and studies have so far produced a sizable amount of data as I feel that allowing my crew to operate in fields the excel in allows them the freedoms to explore the more fringe ideas that they have.” Lazol sounded more relaxed as the meeting was more of a conversation, he stood and replicated himself a glass of wine and said, “Want one?”

Lazol, CSO

“Mr Lazol, I dont think I need to remind you of your own rules of acquisition but I’m going to state Rule number 240, *time like platinum is a rare commodity” and right now you’re wasting mine which is making this conversation very unprofitable for us both, so please sit down and dont drink alcohol whilst on duty. Loose lips sink ships and alcohol is a fine lubricant. You can add that to your rule book too” He leaned back in his chair and waited for the Ferengi to si back down. His next few actions could cost Raauhl to extend his trump cards early on in the game and he hoped it wouldn’t come to that so quickly but already the Science Ferengi officer was testing his patience.

  • Cmdr Raauhl, XO

Lazol remained eerily calm as he took another sip and said “Reading the rules are we?” Lazol then finished the wine and sat down and said, “Commander you know damn well that Starfleet replicators don’t have the pleasure of replicating alcohol, they produce synthehol instead. A wonderful little piece of Ferengi invention I’d like to remind you that keeps the taste in your mouth without the mind altering side effects. You seem more testy then usual Commander, and I do not like starting my meetings with contention.” Lazol said heavily as he leaned forward and said, “If you want to start talking about profitability and time than I suggest we take a stroll to my labs where I can show you numerous breakthrough in both science as well as plenty of marketable tidbits that I’m sure you can appreciate. Tell me Commander, when was the last time you graced my department rather than sitting on your cheap throne? Just because I am on your ship doesn’t mean I have to bow down to the prince just because of the number of pips on your collar Commander. Do remember your place. Believe it or not I actually do want to progress the scientific research in the fields of anomalies and while profit is a driving force it is not the entire reason I’m here.”

Lazol, CSO

Keeping his composure, “Mr Lazol I have more than enough to worry about on a day to day, I rarely get the chance to leave the CiC and that is usually to go to my officer where I then sit and do paperwork, the fact I dont come to the science labs is a good thing because it means you haven’t garnered my interest by doing something wrong, and besides I dont get to sit on a throne, I stand in the CiC if you ever bothered to some there too, we have more than just science labs on the ship.” He held up his hand to show he wasn’t done.

“Now this isn’t a ‘my gold latinum is bigger than your gold bar’ situation, I have a job to do and this is me doing it and while some people may put up with your outlandish behaviour I will not and I rarely come into a situation unprepared so unless you wish for the office of the Grand Nagsus to receive an anonymous tip about some unpaid and overdue taxes I recommend you sit there, you listen to what I have to say and you will answer my questions, do we have a deal Mr Lazol.”

  • Cmdr Raauhl, XO

Lazol was taken a back. He hadn’t put the XO up as a man who started with threats but he knew that there were some profits he hadn’t entirely reported back to Ferenginar.... Taking a breath he held out his hand to the XO and said, “I have to say Commander I’m impressed. I can see why the Counselor and you get along so well together” he said, the friendship he had developed with Casela was still very much a secret given their mutual friend on Delotha and all. “You see Commander I come from a world and a culture where the custom of a ‘meeting’ is gaining control. Through bribery, coercion, browbeating, any tactic is allowed so long as you are the one in power. You have earned a little more of my respect and I hope that I will earn some of yours as well.”

Raauhl nodded thanking the man for his honesty, and honestly, that’s all the Trill Commander wanted from the Ferengi in the first place. “Well I cant promise anything but I can certainly try and give you the benefit of the doubt.” He said with a smile.

That little speech? All lies. Lazol did not have the patience or the time for this pageantry but he did see the Commander was trying to play at his level and that wasn’t something to take lightly. After all Rule of Acquisition 212 states ‘A good lie is easier to believe than the truth’, and Lazol had no problem lying till the targs came home about giving in this time. The Nagus getting a tip about unpaid and overdue taxes? Who did this man think he was dealing with? The Ferengi Alliance was built on avoiding taxes and payments whenever possible! Get caught by the Ferengi Commerce Authority and have a Liquidator sent after you? These are Ferengi we’re talking about and a bribe always goes a long way, and usually far less than the taxes owed. Once that bribe was paid all it took was some good negotiation and the entire matter is paid off with a fraction and everyone comes out feeling like they’ve won.

No no, Raauhl won the first round, but the war was still coming.

Lazol, CSO

“So lets get the painful stuff out of the way before looking at the good points. I have come across several complaints from your staff regarding your methods and techniques, of course, this is bound to happen when someone who is not traditionally a Starfleet member but there’s one incident involving a carnivorous plant, rubber gloves, an ensign, a large plasma torch and…” He pulled at his shirt, “Some turbo lift lubrication fluid? I can’t reveal the name of the person who reported it but they spent several days in sickbay and still recovering from underlying emotional stress.”
