Casela picks up her panic and fear, but the images, as dreams usually were, were distorted and unclear. It’s okay Gen, I’m here, and so is Fenrir. You’re dreaming. Go to sleep. We’re going to take care of you. The images were disturbing and if Casela wasn’t so worried that Gen’s ‘abilities’ had broken she’d take the time to delve into the dreams with Gen, but right now, she needed to make sure she didn’t accidently hurt anyone in the surgical suite. One of the nurses glanced up at all the readings and nodded to Casela. The nurse took a cloth, and more out of motherly instinct than necessity she wiped it across Gen’s forehead. She knew Gen, most of the crew knew Gen. The saying ‘It takes a village’ really applied here. Everyone adored her, for the most part. There were a few who were wary because of that non human part of her, and Casela could admit they weren’t wrong. She was a child with no real idea of what had happened to her. But Gen was quiet and sweet, and at times very young, and others very old. She’d endeared herself to the crew. Even though there were very very few she trusted or spent time with. Casela had been hoping that as time went on and Gen got more comfortable there would be a natural discovery of the memories. So far it had been working, but with this incident, Casela was certain, she may have to push Gen, and that could be dangerous. Dealing with trauma was a tricky thing. She would need to get the recordings off Fenrir and the security and sensor logs too. Maybe Uj’aw could help her.

It took a few more minutes of work as Theo finished repairing the damage and ran the osteoregenerator over the breaks and then closed the incision he had to make to correct the angle. He moved around the teens body to run the regenerator over her ribs a few times and finally switched for another instrument and stood at her head. He ran the scanner over the girls head a few times.

“I think we are almost done here.” he said conversationally. “So I am correct in assuming, counsellor, you are acting in Loco parents for this…” it was on the tip of his young to say specimen but he didn’t, smoothly replacing the word with a more appropriate “…young lady.”

Casela didn’t pick up any more dreams or flashbacks from Gen and that reassured her for the moment. Once Gen was settled she would get a PaDD and download Fenrir’s memory records of the incident.

“Yes, when she first appeared on board I was put in charge of her. Considering my unique talents and qualifications I seemed to be the best choice. So far we’ve been able tooiece together her ship encountered some type of anomaly and it killed, for all intents and purposes, the entire crew and destroyed the ship. It did something to her but Doc Fey never figured out what. All tests show her as human.” No need to lie. Knox would be able to read that much in her medical file.
Lt Synthi-er CNS

“Fascinating.” Theo said sounding genuine. He finished his work and stepped back to check the readings. “There we go much better.” He smiled and looked at the staff present. “Can we take her to recovery please and I’ll check on her in ten minutes. I’d like a continuous readout and another dose of Terakine in half an hour if you please.”

He turned to Casela. “Shall we have a conversation regarding your charge counsellor?” He asked

Dr Knox

Casela nodded, she waited for the medical staff to take Gen out to recovery, “Fenrir, guard.” With an AI as his main operating system Fenrir was able to follow the orders while staying out of the way of the nurses. Of course they were used to Fenrir, he was always around with Gen or Casela. He was as much a part of the crew as anyone else. He followed along and found a place to be out of the way but where his sensors could monitor Gen incase her anomalies abilities went haywire again.

Casela followed Knox as she picked up a PaDD from outside the scrub room sending a very quick written message. She’s out of surgery and in recovery, and her vitals are stable. She’s still asleep. that went directly to Raauhl’s work console on the bridge. Frustratingly short, but not much else to tell at the moment. And she wasn’t awake yet, and that was what he was waiting for.

Theo led the way back to his office which seemed to have been reorganised by some NE Fairies. The burnt out tricorder was still on his desk however. It was this he picked up as he moved around to his chair and slowly lowered himself into it. “Please take a seat. Perhaps you would do me the honour of explaining, exactly how that young lady ended up falling through my ceiling.” He asked as he turned the tricorder over in his long thin fingers.

Dr Knox

Casela sat down and shook her head. “That’s a difficult question to answer. Gen describes it as ‘moving the bubbles out of the way and then putting them back.’ We all assume she means atoms or if not that deep, molecules. She doesn’t know how she does it, just that she does. This is the first time I’ve ever seen her move through something and not be in control of it. And I hazard she lost control because she got hurt rather than floating to the floor. I would be very interested to know how she does it. We know that the Phantom was lost, supposedly in an ion storm. Gen tells a different story. Glowing eyes, shadows, monster chasing her and the crew. I have no idea how she survived. That five year ago, she should be 16, but she’s not. Is she Gen McAllister? Yes she is. Her DNA checks out and the last medical scans of her synaptic cortex matches as well. Indicating those early childhood memories are the same. She knows what happened, but she’s not able to recall it. Pyschological response to the trauma. It’s something I’ve been working with her on, but until we know the extent of how she’s been changed,” and here she waved at the tricorder that Gen melted in his hand, “it’s dangerous. Doc Fey did a lot of medical tests on her, but then interest in her stopped and no one’s had the time. I have basic nurse training but I’m not doctor.”

Theodore hummed to himself. Internally it was basically a purr as he considered the points that had just been presented to him. He zoned out a moment as he considered looking at the spot the girl had fallen through.

Here Casela paused eyeing Dr. Knox in deep thought. “I don’t condone testing on children for experimentations sake. You know my thoughts on all that so I won’t go into it. But if you can help her, and gain her trust so that she doesn’t react out of fear…” again she paused. “But given her reaction in your office I will have to insist on someone else being present to insure no one gets hurt.” She adored Gen, loved her to pieces, but what ever and how ever she’d been changed was dangerous, and she couldn’t risk the safety of the crew, and more importantly, Gen’s safety.
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS

“I wonder.” Theo said eventually. “If her reaction was more due to the fact she does not know me and in response to pain. Perhaps getting to know her a little better would allow me the opertunity to…” he mustn’t say study her. That would be a faux pas. “…understand what’s going on with her and allow you the chance to help her through her trauma. I assume physically she has been attended to. Just because the results seem perfectly normal doesn’t mean she is in perfect health and her well-being is of course more important than anything else. With your permission and of course hers I’d like to do a thorough examination and some additional tests.”
