The rest of her work day had been, it was work, and long. She’d worked close to a double shift, but it had been productive. But she was done for the day and she didn’t feel like continuing to think about it. She’d spoken to Ziecest, who suggested she needed a vacation. Time away from everyone else’s problems to work on processing her own. Casela told him she was getting a vacation, on medical leave. And Knox and Ryder weren’t going to let her off the hook, so she’d have plenty of time to think. The problem was she didn’t really want to think about it. She almost preferred it when she was alone, no one to ask her all these insidiously inane questions. She left her office after signing off on the last report. She took the turbolift to deck 2, got off and because she was feeling edgy she picked the lock rather than simply using the code. She had a headache, she was getting them a lot since the encounter with Hampton. She stopped when she entered though. She had no idea what bourguignon was, but it smelled really good. She went into the other room putting on loose pants and a cut off t-shirt. She walked back in and started to order coffee, thought better of it and got water instead. “How did the rest of your meetings go?”

Stiring the contents of the large ceramic pot with a wooden spoon Raauhl smiled as Cas came back into the main room having changed, he was also in something more casual. Some navy blue cotton sports shorts and a baggy grey T-shirt which the motto “Its a good day to dine” On the front and a Kligon wearing a chefs hat brandishing a spoon over his head. “They wen’t well, I didn’t piss anyone off well unless you count Lazol. I quiet like him you know, he has something about it that is endearing but I may have tipped my hand a little to hard” He admitted, “Want to taste test?” he asked holding the spoon careful with some of the contents from the pot in it. Ever since his death and well rebirth he’d shown interest in a lot of things he hadn’t before and one of those was home cooking.

Oh how poetic. Raauhl was worried about being to rough on Lazol, and Lazol was worried about getting kicked off the ship. She’d called it, back in her office, hours ago, that they were both just posturing for the sake appearance and regulations. Of course she couldn’t tell Ryder that Lazol had come to see her. She sighed, secrets, why did her life always deal in secrets? “I wouldn’t worry about Lazol too much. It is always best with Ferengi to make sure they know you can’t be deceived. And for Lazol specifically, he’s a brilliant scientist, and that is more important to him than profit. I’ve had the opportunity to watch him in the labs.” She turned around at the offer to try the Bourguignon and saw his shirt. Her mouth twitched into a grin. She’d known quite a few Klingons over the years, and she thought the shirt was humorous and accurate. She doubted if any of the Klingons she knew would agree, but it was funny, and she chuckled softly. She walked over looking for an extra spoon and then realized he was holding the spoon for her. With only a slight hesitation, she took a bite off the spoon. It was heavy, but in a flavorful way. The spices mixed with the wine were balanced nicely. She liked it. “Mmmm. That’s very good. Is that a Gamay red I taste?” Casela was not a wine drinker, but Uva Helea was. Now there was a name she’d not used in years. He’d mentioned once that she didn’t know good cooking until she tried his. Apparently he was right.

He nodded taking a taste for himself it was meaty and punchy just how he wanted it to be. Dropping the spoon into the pot he turned around and faced her. “For someone who can’t cook you are able to pick out a good wine” He teased and put a hand on either side of her hips before pulling her in and kissing her. “It been one stressful day I’m glad you are here.” Their relationship had grown from strength to strength despite everything, and he was keener now than ever to spend as much time with her as possible, death would do that to someone. “How was your day?” he asked knowing that no doubt she had an equally long day. He could never be a counsellor.

“You would be surprised the skills I’ve picked up along the way.” He pulled her in and she kissed him back, resting her hands on his arms. She looked at him for a long moment, “I’m glad I’m here too.” Then she kissed him again wrapping her arms around him. Loosing him didn’t make her worry any less about how she was supposed to make this work, or the fact that her ‘job’ could ruin it all. But it did make her more determined to figure it out, if that was possible. “My day? Long, but the crew won’t fall into hysterical delusions tonight.” It was half joke and half serious. “And,” she grinned, “the XO should be out of my hair for awhile. He has MONTHS of reports waiting on his desk. We should take advantage of his distraction.” The headache she’d had since talking to Knox the day before was finally starting to go away.

He laughed smiling at her, “Yes well the the XO seemed like he was ready to pass out and sleep for the week so I dont think he’ll be watching you as closely.” Kissing her again he manoeuvred out from their embrace so he could begin setting up the table when it seemed like she wasn’t following he paused with the table mats, “You know if you’re living here you gotta earn your keep” He was teasing of course and continued laying out the table.

Casela was already behind him, bowls, silverware, napkins in hand. She deftly stepped around him when he paused, avoiding running into him. The thing was she didn’t feel like she was living there, she felt more like a guest. Not that Ryder did or did not do anything to make her feel that way. It had been a long time since she’d felt like a place was home. Like she belonged there. Not even with all the time she spent on Valkyrja, and the shuttle was hers, she didn’t live there. That didn’t mean she felt like she shouldn’t help. In fact simple things, like setting a table, were welcome, providing a sense of the mundane to her life. After he put the mats down she set the rest of the table. She stepped back into the bedroom grabbing a hypo from a drawer. She fiddled with it a moment and then setting it against her neck, she pressed the button, hearing the hiss. “Other than needing to sleep for a week, how are you feeling?” she asked looking pointedly at his abdomen. He was sadly mistaken if he thought she hadn’t noticed the pains and his reaction to them. And it made her want to hunt Hampton down all the more, and kill him very, very slowly.

“Oh that?” He said trying to hide behind a smile, “Its nothing just some mild cramps from time to time nothing to worry yourself about I have the chief medical officer and the Captain doing enough of that for the two of us besides let’s just forget about that.” Honestly, Raauhl didn’t want to think about it ever again, the idea of having died possibly snuffed out of existence so easily was not one he was willing to accept. He finished laying the table and moved back over to the slow cooking pot.
