Before she sat down, Irida opened her eyes. “Is the incense alright? I wanted to try something new, but it might be a bit to savory for such a quiet space. I’m Irida by the way.” Irida smiled, she had an easy manner and at the moment was a very calm pressence, much as she was when working. Off duty however, she was described as wild, humorous, and the life of the party. “I am happy to change it out.”

“It’s fine, thanks. I was hoping not to disturb you,” Luran said. Incense wasn’t something she normally used, but it didn’t bother her for it to be there, so she didn’t mind what scent it was. “And I am Luran.” she added, introducing herself back.

“It’s a pleasure Luran. And no worried, I had just sat down. I hadn’t started yet.” Irida grew quiet and began to breathe slowly and deeply, measuring her breath, focusing on the jumble of thoughts in her head and slowing them, letting her mind blank. Feeling the air move in and out of her lungs. Flexing and relaxing her muscles, each in a row, until the tension was gone, focusing on being simply in the moment.

Luran followed suit, slowing her breathing into deep breaths, allowing her mind to slow to a quiet state, and then she enjoyed the silence, both inner and outer, hearing nothing but Irida’s breaths.

Eventually, Irida come back to herself, the peace and quiet in the room relaxing and just what she’d needed. Luran seemed to still be meditating and Irida didn’t want to disturb her. She took a deeper quiet breath and slowly let it out. She stretched her legs in front of her and bent forward, stretching her whole body gently after the prolonged stillness, the silence like a soft warm blanket in the room. The sensation prolonged by the soft light cast by the candles.

It was a few minutes after Irida that Luran came back to herself, feeling quite refreshed. “Always the best thing to do after a day of work,” she said, after her own stretch session. It was part of her normal routine to relax or meditate, but she had to admit, it was nice that there was a specific room designed for it.

Irida nodded, bounding up to her feet, continuing to stretch. “I have found it to be true. Though, I will admit I had never tried it until I was posted here on Leviathan. There is a small mess hall just across the hall. I don’t know what it is, but I’m always thirsty after I meditate. Care to join me, Luran?” “Computer raise lights, to 30%” Irida moved about the room snuffing out the candles, grinding the end of the incense down and putting the cushion away.
MCPO Irida

“I’d like to explore the ship and I could use a drink.” said Luran, putting her own cushion away. She helped put out some of the candles closer to the side of the room she’d been on before moving toward the door. “I’ve always liked meditating. Of course, we are taught it early on Vulcan. Do you come to meditate often?” She asked.

Irida led the way down the corridor to the last room on right. She entered and it was obvious it was just a large office combined with a smaller one and the furniture all exchanged for tables and chair. It was still small, but there were two replicators available. Irida ordered a strawberry lemonade and then stepped aside to allow Luran access to the replicators. “I try to come a few times a week. Cpt Manhattan keeps us busy and most days I’m just ready to get back to the barracks after training, but I do like to get down here as much as possible. What would you like to see? I’d be happy to show you around.”
MCPO Irida

Luran followed Irida. It wasn’t a huge room by any means, but did it need to be? It did its job. “I aim for daily,” she said, as she got herself a chai tea from the replicator. Then she took a seat to enjoy the beverage. “The lounge, the science labs, everything I can see,” she replied. She liked to get familiar with where she’d be living and working… hopefully for the next long while.

Irida joined her, sitting gracefully into a chair, and tucking one foot underneath her. “I wish I had time for daily. I’m sure Lt Synthi-er would like me to do so. Now let’s see, I can show you a lot, but the labs, well I can’t do much about. Everything requires clearance. You may have to find someone else. But starting here I can tell you that in addition to the meditation room, there are art, music, and game rooms. And school rooms on this floor, for the moment. The lounge is on deck 8 and has a beautiful fish tank.”
MCPO Irida

“Oh, yes. I am sure there are parts of this ship neither of us can access,” Luran said. Most of those rooms did not sound very interesting to her. The school rooms she certainly would rather steer clear of. Luran was not much of a children person. However, the fish tank caught her attention. “A fish tank? With real fish?” She asked. Obviously, if the fish were real, they were imported from someplace. But it still seemed rather a random thing to keep on a spaceship to her. Then again, she’d never been on a ship with meditation or relaxation rooms, either.

Continuing on her theme, “So the opposite corridor holds the school rooms. We only have 3 children on board. Gen, sweet girl, anomalous as all get out. She appears through walls, floats above the floor, is the long lost love child of the CNS and XO.” Here Irida laughed heartily. “Sorry, I kid. But Gen is very attached to them. Poor girl’s been alone for almost 5 years. Then Miss Cerenity, she’s 3, as smart as Lazol, our CSO, and flies. And then Jeane, he’s about 16, has wings too, but he and his father just arrived on board.” She finished her drink and returned it to the replicator. “Yes real fish. Captain Cobb is very fond of them and can often be found with a drink sitting right in front of it. It’s rather peaceful. I think it might be his form of meditation.” She walked out of the small mess hall and over to the turbolift. “Shall we? It’s on deck 8.”
MCPO Irida

“Oh, I see,” she said, having been stuck on the bit about a love child between the CNS and the XO, but then Irida said she was kidding, and Luran spent a couple moments ‘catching up’ in the conversation, missing a bit about the kids. She did like learning a little more about the crew. “Captain Cobb seems… interesting.” She commented, “but yes, let’s,” she said, following Irida to the turbolift.

Irida grinned to herself. Her gossipy mouth had claimed another victim. Stepping into the turbolift “Deck 8” she called out and in a wish they were gone. She stepped out and then down the corridor and into the lounge. “Someone will s always here.” The lounge was a nautical theme, heavy on the theme and a very large cylindrical fish tank in the middle.
MCPO Irida

Luran followed Irida into the turbolift, and then out when they reached the correct deck. When she stepped into the lounge, she paused momentarily to have a look around. In the center, a large cylindrical fish tank. She walked slowly around the lounge, finally pausing in front of the tank, watching the fish swim.

“The captain is very fond of the fish. And I have to admit there is a kind of stillness from sitting and watching them. They have absolutely no idea what goes on around them on this ship, and just continue to live their lives.” She looked at the rather plainly adorned tank, going around and around the fish swam, “well as far as their life goes confined to such a space.”

” aren’t they amazing, tbe pinck flower horn is Angel” cerenity said. She had been in the lounge for about fifteen minutes. She was sapose to be in bed as she was on a pajamas and had her favorite blanket wrapped around her. ” I like the fish” she said happly. Luna was not far away this time quiet watching the child from the corner. She had reluctantly agreed to let Cerenity see the fish after the child had woken her up with yet another nightmare.
Cerenity

Luran looked to the child as she spoke, looking just a tad uncomfortable. “Yes, they are quite relaxing.” She said. Unexpectedly so. She had actually not seen a fish tank before, certainly not one as large. They weren’t exactly common on Vulcan where there wasn’t much water.

“I’m heading out of here,” she said to Luran. “If you care to come with me I’ll show you my favorite spot on the ship.”
MCPO Irida

Luran was pulled out of her fixation on the fish tank, glad for an excuse to not be in the same room as the child. “Yes, let’s go,” she said, reverting to her normal Vulcan expression of neutrality.

Irida stepped out of the lounge and down to the turbolift, “Deck 9.” Irida, for all her easy going attitude in her off time, walked with a purpose and out of habit always stood ‘at ease’ if not at attention. The doors opened, and Irida led her to a door just to the right side of the lift. They entered and the entire deck, minus the aft sections reserved for computer core C and the pattern buffers. “This is the Poseidon Observation Lounge,” Irida told her, her voice quiet rather than the carrying tone she usually used. “I love the view form in here. No one ever comes in here, I don’t know why. The view is incredible.” The observation lounge took up almost the entire deck and the windows spanned form aft port around the fore section to aft starboard.
MCPO Irida

The view outside the windows was absolutely stunning. “I am sure if others knew about it, they would be here, too,” she said, “but this way, I bet you get it to yourself most of the time.” She followed Irida’s suit, lowering her voice somewhat as she looked around the lounge and then settled on looking out the windows. She did wonder why no one else would enjoy this lounge. Perhaps the fish tank in the other lounge was a significant enough draw the crew didn’t look for somewhere else to hang out? Either way, she was glad she was touring the ship with Irida, who seemed to know all the best places to go.

“This is for leisure. We don’t get a lot of that here, and when they do it’s drinking in the lounge, or the holodecks, or sleep. Most of the time, we, the crew I mean, forget that there are beautiful areas of this ship. I would love to blend it with an arboretum. I think it would be beautiful in here.”
