Irida stepped out of the lounge and down to the turbolift, “Deck 9.” Irida, for all her easy going attitude in her off time, walked with a purpose and out of habit always stood ‘at ease’ if not at attention. The doors opened, and Irida led her to a door just to the right side of the lift. They entered and the entire deck, minus the aft sections reserved for computer core C and the pattern buffers. “This is the Poseidon Observation Lounge,” Irida told her, her voice quiet rather than the carrying tone she usually used. “I love the view form in here. No one ever comes in here, I don’t know why. The view is incredible.” The observation lounge took up almost the entire deck and the windows spanned form aft port around the fore section to aft starboard.

The view outside the windows was absolutely stunning. “I am sure if others knew about it, they would be here, too,” she said, “but this way, I bet you get it to yourself most of the time.” She followed Irida’s suit, lowering her voice somewhat as she looked around the lounge and then settled on looking out the windows. She did wonder why no one else would enjoy this lounge. Perhaps the fish tank in the other lounge was a significant enough draw the crew didn’t look for somewhere else to hang out? Either way, she was glad she was touring the ship with Irida, who seemed to know all the best places to go.

“This is for leisure. We don’t get a lot of that here, and when they do it’s drinking in the lounge, or the holodecks, or sleep. Most of the time, we, the crew I mean, forget that there are beautiful areas of this ship. I would love to blend it with an arboretum. I think it would be beautiful in here.”

Luran nodded. “Understandable. Personally, I don’t see the draw of drinking,” she replied, shrugging. The idea of purposefully drinking something meant to alter decision-making seemed just a bit absurd. “I agree. An arboretum would make it a wonderful place to spend free time. What a nice idea,” she added, about the last part. It seemed like there were a lot of places to spend leisure time for a ship which Irida said didn’t get much leisure time.

Irida grinned, “Well I like to drink, but unlike some of the other RTF teams, Black Devil’s don’t indulge in excess. We used to, but Lt Synthi-er put an end to that. But I actually have a green thumb, and would love to put in the work. We all need a hobby, right?”
MCPO Irida

“You’re on one of the RTF teams?” Luran asked curiously. She hadn’t heard of several of these things before coming to this ship, and she was still getting a hang of all the new acronyms. “Yes, hobbies are a good thing to have. To take up some time.”

Irida nodded, “I am. It’s hard work, scary work, but Cpt Manhattan is an honor to work for.” She walked over to one of the chairs and sat, the ship moving past a stellar nursery. “I’ll have to ask the counselor about the arboretum idea. What about you Luran? Any hobbies?”
MCPO Irida

“I meditate, I read, I keep a journal, I practice archery.” Luran responded. Her journal was… More like a list of events in her time in starfleet than a journal but it worked for her. The entries possessed little emotion. And she had gotten quite good at archery. It probably wouldn’t ever come in handy, but she found it relaxing in a way to shoot trees.

“Archery?” Irida sat up intrigued. She was always up for new weapons training. She wondered if an arrow could be modified like the Mark VII and use it? A bow would be quiet compared the rail gun. Hmmm....time to talk to RTF R&D. “I don’t suppose you’d teach me?”

Luran nodded. She had also always liked learning about weapons, both because they were interesting and because as an emergency doctor, she could study the kinds of injuries they cause, and how best to treat them. “I would be happy to do so. We can meet up on the holodeck. I have a few programs I use. I’ll have to set them up on the ship’s computer,” she said.

“Shouldn’t be hard, we have a huge computer and partitioned areas for holo programs. I’m on stand by all of Beta shift, and of course 6 days a week we have tactical training. But let me know when and where.” Irida was excited to try something new and then her combadge beeped. =^=Irida, this is Lihew.=^= She rolled her eyes, =^=Yeah I know. How can I forget your archaic rumbling?=^= A hearty Klingon laugh came over the comm. =^=Ah you Russian beauty I’m growing on you!” in the back ground Irida heard Niven admonishing him very strongly in Vulcan. “Yeah yeah sorry Niven. Irida you need to get down to the barracks. We’ve got a briefing. Entire department.=^= Irida tapped her combadge to turn it off. “Sorry Luran. Duty calls. I hope the view is aesthetically pleasing for you.” Niven was also Vulcan and she and Irida were good friends.

She got up and headed for a turbolift. The whole department? This can’t be good.
