The rest of her work day had been, it was work, and long. She’d worked close to a double shift, but it had been productive. But she was done for the day and she didn’t feel like continuing to think about it. She’d spoken to Ziecest, who suggested she needed a vacation. Time away from everyone else’s problems to work on processing her own. Casela told him she was getting a vacation, on medical leave. And Knox and Ryder weren’t going to let her off the hook, so she’d have plenty of time to think. The problem was she didn’t really want to think about it. She almost preferred it when she was alone, no one to ask her all these insidiously inane questions. She left her office after signing off on the last report. She took the turbolift to deck 2, got off and because she was feeling edgy she picked the lock rather than simply using the code. She had a headache, she was getting them a lot since the encounter with Hampton. She stopped when she entered though. She had no idea what bourguignon was, but it smelled really good. She went into the other room putting on loose pants and a cut off t-shirt. She walked back in and started to order coffee, thought better of it and got water instead. “How did the rest of your meetings go?”
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS

Stiring the contents of the large ceramic pot with a wooden spoon Raauhl smiled as Cas came back into the main room having changed, he was also in something more casual. Some navy blue cotton sports shorts and a baggy grey T-shirt which the motto “Its a good day to dine” On the front and a Kligon wearing a chefs hat brandishing a spoon over his head. “They wen’t well, I didn’t piss anyone off well unless you count Lazol. I quiet like him you know, he has something about it that is endearing but I may have tipped my hand a little to hard” He admitted, “Want to taste test?” he asked holding the spoon careful with some of the contents from the pot in it. Ever since his death and well rebirth he’d shown interest in a lot of things he hadn’t before and one of those was home cooking.

  • Cmdr Raauhl, XO

Oh how poetic. Raauhl was worried about being to rough on Lazol, and Lazol was worried about getting kicked off the ship. She’d called it, back in her office, hours ago, that they were both just posturing for the sake appearance and regulations. Of course she couldn’t tell Ryder that Lazol had come to see her. She sighed, secrets, why did her life always deal in secrets? “I wouldn’t worry about Lazol too much. It is always best with Ferengi to make sure they know you can’t be deceived. And for Lazol specifically, he’s a brilliant scientist, and that is more important to him than profit. I’ve had the opportunity to watch him in the labs.” She turned around at the offer to try the Bourguignon and saw his shirt. Her mouth twitched into a grin. She’d known quite a few Klingons over the years, and she thought the shirt was humorous and accurate. She doubted if any of the Klingons she knew would agree, but it was funny, and she chuckled softly. She walked over looking for an extra spoon and then realized he was holding the spoon for her. With only a slight hesitation, she took a bite off the spoon. It was heavy, but in a flavorful way. The spices mixed with the wine were balanced nicely. She liked it. “Mmmm. That’s very good. Is that a Gamay red I taste?” Casela was not a wine drinker, but Uva Helea was. Now there was a name she’d not used in years. He’d mentioned once that she didn’t know good cooking until she tried his. Apparently he was right.

He nodded taking a taste for himself it was meaty and punchy just how he wanted it to be. Dropping the spoon into the pot he turned around and faced her. “For someone who can’t cook you are able to pick out a good wine” He teased and put a hand on either side of her hips before pulling her in and kissing her. “It been one stressful day I’m glad you are here.” Their relationship had grown from strength to strength despite everything, and he was keener now than ever to spend as much time with her as possible, death would do that to someone. “How was your day?” he asked knowing that no doubt she had an equally long day. He could never be a counsellor.

  • Raauhl

“You would be surprised the skills I’ve picked up along the way.” He pulled her in and she kissed him back, resting her hands on his arms. She looked at him for a long moment, “I’m glad I’m here too.” Then she kissed him again wrapping her arms around him. Loosing him didn’t make her worry any less about how she was supposed to make this work, or the fact that her ‘job’ could ruin it all. But it did make her more determined to figure it out, if that was possible. “My day? Long, but the crew won’t fall into hysterical delusions tonight.” It was half joke and half serious. “And,” she grinned, “the XO should be out of my hair for awhile. He has MONTHS of reports waiting on his desk. We should take advantage of his distraction.” The headache she’d had since talking to Knox the day before was finally starting to go away.
Casela

He laughed smiling at her, “Yes well the the XO seemed like he was ready to pass out and sleep for the week so I dont think he’ll be watching you as closely.” Kissing her again he manoeuvred out from their embrace so he could begin setting up the table when it seemed like she wasn’t following he paused with the table mats, “You know if you’re living here you gotta earn your keep” He was teasing of course and continued laying out the table.

  • Raauhl

Casela was already behind him, bowls, silverware, napkins in hand. She deftly stepped around him when he paused, avoiding running into him. The thing was she didn’t feel like she was living there, she felt more like a guest. Not that Ryder did or did not do anything to make her feel that way. It had been a long time since she’d felt like a place was home. Like she belonged there. Not even with all the time she spent on Valkyrja, and the shuttle was hers, she didn’t live there. That didn’t mean she felt like she shouldn’t help. In fact simple things, like setting a table, were welcome, providing a sense of the mundane to her life. After he put the mats down she set the rest of the table. She stepped back into the bedroom grabbing a hypo from a drawer. She fiddled with it a moment and then setting it against her neck, she pressed the button, hearing the hiss. “Other than needing to sleep for a week, how are you feeling?” she asked looking pointedly at his abdomen. He was sadly mistaken if he thought she hadn’t noticed the pains and his reaction to them. And it made her want to hunt Hampton down all the more, and kill him very, very slowly.
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS

“Oh that?” He said trying to hide behind a smile, “Its nothing just some mild cramps from time to time nothing to worry yourself about I have the chief medical officer and the Captain doing enough of that for the two of us besides let’s just forget about that.” Honestly, Raauhl didn’t want to think about it ever again, the idea of having died possibly snuffed out of existence so easily was not one he was willing to accept. He finished laying the table and moved back over to the slow cooking pot.

  • Raauhl

Casela raised a brow. “It’s nothing like my headaches are just my eyes burning form lack of sleep,” she didn’t snap the words or challenge him, but she was calling him out and herself as well. It didn’t work like that, and she knew it. She’d made that mistake once, she tried to forget, to ignore it, and it had a way of making itself known, but she also knew sometimes it was simply hard to find a way to speak it. She didn’t want to think about it either, and the since they were involved she didn’t have to be his counselor. They could just be, together. “Okay, you don’t want to talk, I’m not going to make you,” yet “But don’t lie to me, okay?” There was more emotion there than he’d probably ever heard from her., she wasn’t okay either. She grabbed the bowls walking over to him, holding them while he filled them.
Lt Synthi-er, CNS

Picking up the ladel Raauhl filled each bowl. “Its not that I dont want to talk about its that Im scared too.” He already had te memory and pains to remind him of what had happened, to them both but he really didn’t want to talk about it either. “Theres some bread in the oven” Raauhl added turning off the stove and placing the ladel on the side. He searched for the oven gloves, “Have you seen the gloves?” He asked looking around, anything to not talk about that.

  • Raauhl

Casela nodded as she took the bowls to the table. She wasn’t sure how to handle dealing with death that wasn’t permanant. Dealing with grief over loosing but not loosing someone. And fear well her normal reaction, to face it head on and kill it, wasn’t an option. She was frustrated, edgy, and that slow burn of anger. It wouldn’t help her here and it certainly wouldn’t help him. She had the urge to punch something, just to release the tension. Gloves…she looked around, they were on the table, and she picked them up. He didn’t want to think of about it and maybe normalcy was needed. She was too close to it to help either of them. “Right here. You catch both of them and I’ll try and remember how to cook Hasperat for you.” She tossed them both at him in quick succession.
Lt Synthi-er CNS

Raauhl turned and plucked both projectiles out of the air. “Nice try” He teased winking as he slipped the gloves over his hands. “I’d love to try hasperat, whats hasperat?” He asked chuckling, bending over and fetching the fresh cob that was baking in the oven. It was a normal white loaf with rosemary and thyme infused into the dough. Pulling it out the smell was amazing, and the bread very very hot that even with the gloves on her could feel his fingers burn.

  • Cmdr Raauhl, XO

“Someone has to keep you on your toes.” She got a wiff of the warm bread and smiled. It reminded her of…of home, before the resistance. “Hasperat is a spicy Bajoran dish similar to a burrito or sandwich wrap. It uses a special brine. The spice can be more savory or simply for heat. A good hasperat will make your eyes water and clear the sinuses.” She come up behind him, one hand touching his arm briefly so he would know she was there, picking up a cutting board and bread knife, and held the board out for him to put the bread. She placed the bread on the table and looked at him. Lifting the handle of the bread knife she asked, “Trust me to cut it, or do you want to?”
Lt Synthi-er, CNS

He nodded for her to go on, “I thin you can handle a loaf of bread.” He placed the oven gloves on the side to be tidied away later and sat at the table with the bowls and everything else set for dinner. “Oh, wait” He stood back up and quickly found the bottle of Red Burgundy. It was a dry wine made from pinot noir grapes and of course from from Burgundy’s eastern region. He grabbed some glasses and placed one in front of Casela and the other infront of his before sitting down.

She spun and flipped the bread knife a couple of times, showing off just little, grinning at him. “It is a most foul and devious enemy you are having my slay for you.” She sliced the bread into even slices, then setting the knife down she placed a slice by each of their bowls. She sat down and picked up the glass, finger cradling the flute, letting the stem dangle between her ring and middle fingers. She sipped at the dry red, it bringing back memories.

The big Klingon, bedecked in the formal robe with all the medals walked up to her, “I forgot Uva, was it red or white wine that you preferred?” This was of course coded language where white would mean everything was fine, red meant that he needed to be careful or that there might be something dangerous about. Grinning at the pretense, she sipped the wine making a puckered face at the dryness, “I prefer a rose.” Which meant that she was fine, but there were undetermined undercurrents that weren’t pinned down yet.

“Are you trying to warn me of something?” It was a joke and she realized he had no idea what she was talking about. “I once used wine as a signaling system. Red wine indicated the need for caution or danger, white that everything was fine, and a fine rose would indicate I was safe, but the situation was unclear.” She sipped the wine again, “But this is a strong dry red, and very good.” She set the glass down, and took a bite of the Bourguignon. “Mmm…I refuse to have Cobb for dinner. He’ll make you his personal chef and will have you on call all hours of the day and night.” She took another bite, and then said the first thing that came to mind, “Actually I like that idea, it’s safer.” She paused in another bite, oh she shouldn’t have said that.
Lt Synthi-er, CNS

Raauhl chuckeled, “Well maybe the red is me trying to indicate my situation.” He was teasing, he even winked before dipping his own spoon into the bowl. The Bourguignon was just how he had remembered making it before rich with intense flavours though he may have gone a little heavy on the pepper this time around. “You know he has been leaving subtle hints that he wants to come round for dinner, Im not sure if its the food so how were both doing or to spy on Gen.” This time Raauhl dipped his hand into the bread basket and took out a slice of the still warm and soft bread. “Nothing beats a fresh loaf.”

  • Cmdr Raauhl, XO

Casela shook her head with a grin, pushing the unrealistic thoughts away, “Don’t worry, I’ll protect you if the situation gets dangerous.” She dipped the piece of bread into the bowl, the herbed bread a delicious counter point to the savory Bourguignon. “All of the above. Cobb is lead quite easily by his stomach and with all the cooking you’ve been doing, and the fact he’s only a door down, the aroma is probably making him hungry. Just warn me before he shows up,” she grinned. “As for Gen, well she does have a nasty habit of trying to sneak up on him. But she adores him and he adores her. He probably wants to make sure she really sleeps in her bed at night.” She ate slowly, contemplating, a slight twitch of her eye and indication of the headache that didn’t want to go away. “And as for us he either wants to know we’re okay, or he’s simply looking to beat Irida to the gossip chain.” They were certainly not okay, and Cobb wouldn’t feel better for knowing that. He’d blame himself, second guess and bemoan his fate as CO of Leviathan. She took another slice of the bread, leaned back stretching her legs out, pulling small bites off the slice. “It’s certainly a luxury, and one I’m happy to take advantage of.”
Lt Synthi-er, CNS

Raauhl smiled it was good for them both to enjoy seemingly normal topics, “You know its come to my attention that despite living with you theres something I actually dont know about you so fancy playing 10 questions?” he sipped his wine and had another bite to eat before adding, “I’ll start. Whats your favourite colour?” As simple question but he actually had no idea what colour she’d pick, if he was to guess a deep purple.
