USS Augustine, September of 2395 - En route to system Tau Delta 4.

“Captain’s Log: Stardate 72729.1

We’re almost through charting this sector, just one more star system to catalogue before we move on. I can’t say I’ve ever been disappointed with this job, but there’s no one here… Not anymore anyway. None of the systems we’ve come across have been inhabited, though some have shown signs of previous cultures. Randall and his team desperately wanted more time to look through some of the ruined sites, but that’s a job that’ll have to wait for the archeological experts. Nonetheless, we’ve taken some interesting samples for Randall’s boys to study. That’ll have to tide them over for now…

It’s very strange to find such a wide area almost utterly devoid of life. It’s like something swept clean the entire sector of anything more technologically advanced than our own bronze age. I’d be worried about the Borg, except they leave destruction in their wake. Here, there’s just empty land and sometimes the occasional stone ruins. Maybe we’ll find out more when we reach Tau Delta tomorr-”

(Log ends abruptly.)

Joseph Franklin had been lost in his thoughts, putting them in word form as he entered them into his log, when Augustine lurched hard and rocked to starboard hard enough to alter course. “What the hell-” Joe swore as he landed on his back and had the air knocked out of him.

As he was getting to his feet, the Collision Alarm began to sound, but that changed quickly to All Hands To Stations. Joe pulled on his Uniform Jacket as he ran for the door. He was two turns from the Turbolift when Augustine rocked again and he was thrown against the bulkhead.

Joe’s head swam from the force of the impact. Before he could gain his feet, however, there was a bright flash that seemed to fill every window and hurt his eyes badly enough that he couldn’t keep them open. The Deck below his feet rippled and rent itself open like a bursting melon just before a force threw Franklin from the Deck plates and into blackness.

(To be continued…)

OOC: Amazing start to what I can tell will be a great backstory!
