RCO Office - Interviews and Understandings Part II (TAG Synthi-er)

After one interview was complete, Vonn immediately sent for the next RTF member. This time, the computer chirped and said =/\= Counselor. When you are free, the RCO asks that you meet in the RCO office as soon as possible. =/\= Vonn already had dealings with the Lieutenant, and while it wasn’t hostile; they certainly had some communication obstacles to work through.

Over the comm came a male voice, =^=RCO Vonn, this is crewman Dean. Lt Synthi-er is in an appt but will be done in 10 and will report immediately after.=^= Dean was the administrative assistant, or scheduling genius, for the counseling staff. He always tried to inform the other crew of what was going on so, that in this case, the new Breen officer didn’t think he was being ignored.

15 minutes later, Casela appeared in front of the RCO office door. She’d had a good working relationship with the aging Bajoran, Manhattan, even though he’d futily attempted to make her into something she was not. He was a good leader and had courage to spare. She had no doubt that courage, such as it were, would ever fail Vonn, if he was a good leader remained to be seen. Being a leader and being a fighter were different things. She pressed the chime to the office and waited for permission to enter.

The door slid open when the chime was pressed. The office was an empty space at the moment, containing little more than a desk, three chairs, and a view screen. Four large crates with top of the line locks and access readers sat on the far side of the room from the desk, and the rifle that had been slung over their shoulder on their arrival stood in the corner by Vonn, immobile as ever, who sat behind the desk.

“Sit, Lieutenant. I wish to speak with you about your role within the RTF. Specifically, if you wish to continue as part of the team under my command. Should you wish not to continue, I will ensure that your record bears no negative mark for your declining.” and the helmet simply held its position fixed on her, waiting on her response

Casela sat, and did him the courtesy of thinking about her answer. “For my part, I have no problem working under your command. With the understanding that I fill many roles on board, and have many duties, that may take precedence over my duties for RTF. It’s a very fine line and though ideally there would not be conflicts they do happen.”

“Now the real question is, should I? When Cpt Manhattan went missing I got placed to fill in for him. It’s not my wheel house or my expertise and not something I ever wanted or want to do again. But there is the chance they will always look at me before complying. I would hope that will not be the case, but I do not want to undermine your authority. However, if you choose to keep me on, I’ll be on medical leave for 2 weeks starting in 4 days.”

Vonn looked at her for a moment and then said “Do you feel your presence on the team will be a distraction to others? Or serve to undermine the chain of command?”

Vonn, RTF CO

“For the beta shift team, Black Devils, as they were named, no. They will judge you on your own actions and make their own judgements. The rest of the department, I can’t vouch for. Cpt Manhattan was in the process of weeding out those who caused dissention, but was getting pushback from ARU command about it. It is more likely they will use me as an excuse to cause dissention, but there or not, they will do it anyway.” She remembered Manhattan had said the Alpha shift officers were the worst about it. For whatever reason ARU command had refused to transfer them or replace them. Manhattan had resorted to shifting schedules and seperating the trouble makers. They had been in her office, or on her deck anyway, many times. But as they had all, from Cobb down to the lowest rank, found ARU command didn’t care much about what would make the ship more efficient, they just liked to push their weight around.
Lt Synthi-er, CNS

The voice responded quickly. “I do not care what ARU command wants. If they want to determine how the RTF is staffed and deployed, they can come do the job themselves. The team will function as it is supposed to. Individuals who cannot or will not will be removed. I will not send them to you for counseling. I will simply remove them from the roster and remove their clearances. The system can deal with it from there. Neither I nor the RTF has the time or space to deal with ego or pride or pettiness. What is it the humans say? ‘My way or the highway’, I believe is the colloquialism. We have enough talent to draw from that removing a few will only serve to strengthen the remaining.”

Vonn, RTF CO

Her mouth twitched as he started to talk, she even swallowed the laughter once. “By all means do not send them to me. Insubordination is not something I deal with.
And they won’t get hand holding from me.” She would however put them through the ‘psych’ test for entering the academy. However her version was 100x worse, and lasted several days. Breaking into a smile and very low laughter. “Chief Warrant Officer Vonn,” because she had no idea how he felt about Mr or just his first name, and in that one little speech he’d gained a measure of respect out of her, “you are going to do very well here. Now as far as the chain of command, should you choose to have me remain, I will not disrupt that, even for all my disregard of rank. Such a group as RTF needs the structure.”
Lt Synthi-er, CNS

“Very well. I will retain you on the roster. Now please explain to me your skill set with regards to RTF Operations, and how you had been utilized under the previous Commander. Please note, I will most likely be changing the roles some are in to put talents to better use.” the voice said.

Vonn, RTF CO

“When I was first assigned to Leviathan I was laterally attached to RTF because of my experience with AARM units. Cpt Manhattan also assigned me to teaching tactical training because of my weapons expertise. Specifically to refine their skills with the Mark VII batons. We also worked on hand to hand combat and team maneuvers. He also placed me as team reagent, for the Black Devils. When he was away I did a lot of the paper work required, but MCPO Irida did most of the day to day work.”
