OOC: This should be: Luna, Orin, Durheim, and Synthi-er
IC:
Surda arrived in the shuttlebay eight minutes after leaving the CIC, prepared for her pastry-retrieval mission. She wasn’t too concerned, not overconfident, but she had faith in her team, even if her choice of pilot was… unconventional. Perhaps the young scientist would come in handy on multiple fronts. She was glad she was taking Luna as well, not because she necessarily needed the backup for a pastry, but because it would do Luna some good to get off the ship and take an active part in the capture of an anomaly, rather than just the guarding of contained anomalies. She had come to trust Durheim as well, back on the Other Leviathan, impressed by his level-headedness.
-Surda, CoS (Musing on her team while she waits.)

Casela was already there, waiting with Fenrir when Surda walked over. “Fenrir, this is Lt Surda, COS. You know her. You worked with her and Crewman Durheim on the other Leviathan.” She waited a moment for Fenrir to access the crew manifest and confirm her identity. “Access authorization handler protocols.” Fenrir, from who knows where, extended a palm scanner and Casela placed her palm on it, “Create authorization for temporary primary handler, Synthi-er zeta 2 beta. Recognize Lt. Surda,” Casela removed her hand to allow Surda to place her own on the scanner and give a voice authorization as well.

Then “Recognize Crewman Durheim, Jonathan temporary secondary handler.” “acknowledged” Fenrir’s computerized voice stated. “Alright Lt. he’s all yours. If you aren’t sure what he can do, just ask him. I have him equipped with thrusters, tether, you can tow him back, containment box in his cargo section, and he’s capable of creating his own orange/yellow level containment field. Good luck.”
Lt Synthi-er, KAI9 Handler

Surda nodded. “Thank you, Counselor. I expect you’ll hear from us soon.”
-Surda, CoS

Luna entered soon after. ” hi Lutanat is this Fenrir Cerenity talks about him and Gen both. Aprently they went to see the fish the other day ” Luna chuckled. She looked to the others. ” Are we ready to go” Luna asked.
Ensign Luna.

“Ah; I apologize for my tardiness - there was some.... debate regarding my authorization levels and the emergency power packs. I thought it may be a good idea to bring along additional power packs for the prototype containment unit.” Durheim joined the group in the shuttlebay; his duffel bag appearing somewhat heavier than it had last it was seen.

“I believe I am ready; and I have a number of breath masks as well in my kit - I have no desire to repeat that experience.” He nodded politely at Miss Surda; remembering their being trapped in Hampton’s office.

-Durheim, Engineering

Daizi sat at the controls of the shuttle, running through the pre- flight checklist for the third time, hoping she hadn’t forgotten anything. Truth be told, she wasn’t a big fan of flying anything and had always let others take them helm other than when qualifying on the craft at the Academy, which she had gotten through on the second attempt.

Quite what had possessed anyone to pick HER to pilot anything on a dangerous and vital mission, she had no clue, and was internally torn between her instinct to back out of the mission and her fear of disobeying a direct order.....

“Umm.... we’re ready to go..... I guess??”

Daizi Orin - Scientist

Surda raised an eyebrow at the uncertainty but chose to ignore it. “Excellent. All aboard I suppose.” She had accepted to confidence on the bridge, and she would accept the sudden lack here, as there was clearly something deeper going on.
-Surda, CoS

” Luna alright let’s get going ” Luna said with a smile and headed into the shuttle.
Ensign Luna

With everyone safely aboard, Daizi cautiously fired up the shuttle’s thrusters. The small craft rose hesitantly, rotated to face the opening bay doors, and then slowly flew out, with only one minor hiccup as they almost clipped the doors on the way.

Daizi Orin - Scientist (not pilot)

Surda walked up to Orin and sat down next to her, speaking quietly. “May I remind you, Ensign, that you volunteered as our pilot?”
-Surda, CoS (Skeptical)

” she flys this thing better then I could thats for sure” Luna grinned.
Ensign Luna

Though he glanced up at the collective intake of breath at Daizi’s near miss, Durheim was, as always, focused on his work. It hadn’t taken long to find the aforementioned munitions crates, and after some quick re-organization of the contents, a metal box was obtained. It was a bit more work to convert it to an appropriate container for the flimsy pink containment unit, but nothing he couldn’t handle. A small set of snips split the metal box into its components, and metal hands swiftly bent the sheets into their new shape. Mindful of other’s eyes and the nearby munitions, he didn’t bother trying to weld the box together. Rivets were used; with the additional benefit of being somewhat easier with the thin metal.

A bit of spray adhesive secured the containment unit inside of its new carapace, and after a brief function test (opening and closing the lid), Durheim considered it done; or at least, done enough for now. But he was thorough; and took a few minutes to make sure that the prototype’s functionality had not been affected. As he finished up; he called out to the rest of the group. “I believe I have this complete now; the containment device is now substantially sturdier than it was.”

-Durheim, Engineering

“Excellent.” Surda came over to inspect the container, then moved to pull on her EV suit. “I’ll go out, scoop up the doughnut and come back. Luna, you’ll be in charge of securing the anomaly while I take the suit off. Alright?”

” Understud” she said with a smile.

She tied the sleeves of the suit around her waist, leaving the helmet on the floor. “Durheim, I assume you’ll be taking reading to analyze how effective the prototype is. If we don’t all die, I’ll see about setting up a day you can test it with some other types of anomalies.” She was joking about dying, mostly.
-Surda, CoS

“Yes; hopefully the anomaly will not negatively affect the communication module. But please don’t concern yourself with that; Miss Surda - this… pastry has already claimed a ship! Should it be safely contained, there will likely be time for research in a more… opportune setting.” Despite his words, he was clearly resisting the urge to fiddle with the box; his hands clasped firmly behind his back; fidgeting at nothing. Nodding firmly; he retreated to his newly-claimed space in the shuttle, where an impromptu workstation had taken shape. Tapping at his PaDD, he grinned. “Communication confirmed; CUP-8 is talking to base…” Muttering techno-babble to himself, he settled into the role of ‘wait and see’.

-Durheim, Engineering

Daizi brought the shuttle in towards the anomalous yeast based product, slowly decreasing the range to the flying fried food.

She frowned, thinking of the Lieutenant’s words, had she volunteered to fly the shuttle? That certainly didn’t sound like her and she had a clear memory of the Lieutenant selecting her out of the blue while she had been quietly trying to stay out of everyone’s way on the bridge and get her stress levels under control with some deep breathing exercises.

Daizi Orin - Scientist (not pilot)

Ensign Luna

OOC: I’m sensing some interesting Orin stuff here… I’m excited!
IC:
“Alright, team!” Surda tapped onto her commbadge, connecting to the CiC on the Leviathan. =/\= This is Surda. The containment prototype has been upgraded and, hopefully, will hold. We are almost to the doughnut, you’ll be talking to Durheim if you need anything while I’m out. Everything still good there?=/\= A roundabout way of establishing a second-in-command, but it was for the best.
-Surda, CoS

Despite most all of his attention being focused on the displays in front of him; Durheim did hear the Lt’s announcement - though based on its contents, he did second-guess his ears. Durheim was many things, but if ‘leader’ even was on the list, it was very far down; he was at home when following orders, not giving them. “Ah… Yes, Miss Surda. I shall make myself available.” Durheim’s typically self-assured tone was notably absent; he didn’t quite come across as timid, but he couldn’t be mistaken for confident.
Not being sure of what was expected of him in this role, he looked up and around from his makeshift console, fidgeting with his hands as he waited for the unknown.

Crewman Durheim; the newly responsible engineer

At the same time as the bridge would pick it up a huge gravimetric pulse began to emanate from the centre of the doughnut, the shuttle’s power began to fluctuate and began to power down as one by one Engines, Senors and lights turned off. Fortunately the only thing still; working was the life support but for now they were dead in space. If anyone looked out of the cockpit window they would see the entity gone, or at least gone from view.

Durheim was torn between watching the readings on the sensors, and moving to get the shuttle’s power working again. After a brief moment’s hesitation, he unbuckled from his seat and moved swiftly to the back of the shuttle; popping the diagnostic panel open. While he wasn’t glad that the shuttle had lost power (Durheim was many things, but suicidal was not among them), he was definitely more comfortable in a problem-solving role.

” well this is great” Luna said sarcastically there was a bit of humor there though. ” we got trapped by a donut, is there any way to get power back on line. I’m not exactly a fan of shuttles when they are working properly” Luna said.
Ensign Luna

Surda scowled. “Worry about that later. Orin, where in the haran did that thing go, and what did it do?”
-Surda, CoS

” Ummm. Lutanat how is Orin sapose to find it with out the sencers” she said shaking her head. ” We should probably get power back up so we can find it and chase it down” Luna sigested.
Ensign Luna

“Help Durheim figure it out. Based on last known position, we could be in danger.” Surda moved up to the front of the shuttle, sitting down next to Daizi.
-Surda, CoS

The look Daizi gave the unresponsive control panel was as blank as the panel itself.... had she somehow done this? Screwed up somehow?

She tentatively tapped at the panel again, just in case it miraculously showed signs of life in the three seconds since she had last tried it.

Just great.... and knowing her luck the shuttle would start to suffer the same fate as that other ship and transform into some environment that would no doubt play havoc with her allergies....

She jabbed at the panel again, willing it to come to life. She called back to the engineer “have you tried forcing an unexpected reboot?”

Without turning away from the hatch, Durheim called back to the uncertain pilot. “Not yet, Miss Orin - diagnostics don’t show anything irregular; but I still need to de-energize the capacitors before a hard reset can be safely done. Just a moment…”

Daizi Orin - Scientist and IT support

Luna nodded and looked to Durheim. ” How can I help” she asked him.
Ensign Luna

Nodding gratefully, he directed Luna to hold down several switches as he poked and prodded at the engineering panel. “Miss Luna, hold these down for now please; and then release on my word. One moment....” His hands quickly hit a sequence of keys and switches; and the screen flickered rapidly through different menus. “Now!

The shuttles system as if affected by some unknown eternity that was no longer present began to come back online one by one until finally, they were once again in full control, as they scanned they would no longer see any evidence of the anomaly and the incoming communication light signalling as the Leviathan tried to regain communications with the away team.
