As 20:00 hours rolled around Logan then decided to set up the game and letting the captain know by combadge //^\ Logan to the captain it’s about almost 20:00 Kal-Toh is set up if you’re willing to come down. //^\ as he tapped his combadge. When Logan went over to his replicator he asked for Earl Grey Tea Hot. The computer replicated it for him and is very happy about it.

Ensign Logan

=^= Be right with you, Mr Logan =^= came the reply.
Five minutes later and Zachariah was presenting himself at the Vulcan officer’s quarters, a bottle of Scottish whiskey in one hand and one of Vulcan brandy in the other. When the door opened, he stepped inside and handed the brandy to Logan, then began to look around for glasses.

  • Captain Zachariah Cobb

Logan then takes the brandy and brought the glasses over. “So captain. How’s your day been. Oh and welcome to my quarters.” As Logan came over to the table that has Kal-Toh on it he started to pour their drinks. While that happens he started to discuss his progress himself with his job.

Ensign Logan

“Thank you, Mr Logan,” Zachariah replied, casting an eye around the impeccable space. “How has my day been?”
Reaching out, he claimed the glass of whiskey and raised it in silent toast to the Vulcan, then for several seconds remained silent as he peered into the glass, the amber liquid swirling like a maelstrom. Then with a shrug, he took a sip and concluded, “It has been…surprisingly quiet, to tell you the truth. We have almost reached the starbase and I don’t mind telling you, there is more than one anomaly onboard that I shall be glad to see the back of.”

He chuckled, then sipped more eagerly at his drink.

“But how about you, Mr Logan? How are you finding the Leviathan? I take it your quarters are to your liking?”

  • Captain Zachariah Cobb

“My day has also been.... quiet as well sir. I have been keeping myself busy here cause I’m more of that type that likes to stay in quarters. If you know exactly what I mean captain. But anyways. It’s been good. What do you mean by more anomalies? Honestly I don’t mean to be rude or anything but aren’t we here not on duty and for some recreational time.” As he sat there in front of the captain drinking his Vulcan tea that the replicator made for him.

Zachariah emitted a chuckle. “Aye, we are indeed here for some recreation, Mr Logan. So I shall make no more mention of anomalies and instead turn my mind to the game.”
For a moment he paused and studied the other man, before adding, “And I understand your desire to remain in your quarters. To tell you the truth, I’m not much one for socialising myself. But no man is an island, Mr Logan. There are times when even the most solitary of us require company. Even just for the evening.”

He then noticed that the captain was showing an emotion that was very unusual. Vulcans don’t express feelings at all.

“My quarters could be better with black lighting. I am more of that kind that likes the dark. If you remember back in the federation records sir that Lt. Cmdr. Tuvok like his room dark with the black light. No offense sir. But I am adjusting to the lighting a little harder then normal.” As mentioned about Tuvok from the U.S.S. Voyager.

“Well I don’t fancy my own chances at kal-toh under black lighting,” Cobb’s laughter increased to a roar. “I suspect I shall struggle enough without handicapping me even further.” He seemed to consider something for a moment, then added, “But if you really do want some black lighting in here, then I suggest you have a word with Mr Durheim in engineering. There isn’t much of anything that man can’t do. Or can’t jury-rig at the very least.”

“Anyways sir are you ready to be taught how to play Kal-Toh. Would you like me to get you anything else to drink before we start. Earl Grey tea? Coffee? Vulcan tea? More whiskey? And yes I’m that kind of Vulcan that is willing to go on with a list of drinks of my knowledge.” He mentioned all that to the captain before starting.

“Very generous of you,” the captain nodded with genuine gratitude, before raising his already empty glass. “If more whiskey is on offer then I would be a fool to say no.”

“Anyways, this game, Kal-Toh. Is more about patients and practice. It involves logic. You have these things called rods. We use these rods to make the correct shape and try to beat your opponent that you’re playing against,” he then started to explain the game to the captain. “Let me show you captain before anything happens. There are two ways where this game can go. There is the winning way or there is the losing way. If you go by the losing way it’ll fall apart and will not be completed. If you go by the winning way then the shape that it’ll make is the winning shape.” He then finished explaining it to the captain hopefully he’d understand. Mr. Logan then went back to the replicator and got Romulan Ake and a couple of glasses to drink it out of. One glass for the captain and one for himself. He then started to pour the drink for them both and he then sat back down.

Ensign Logan

“Aye, I think I understand,” he rubbed at his beard in contemplation of the matter. “Or if I don’t then we shall find out soon enough. So, how do we begin? And what are the rules, if any?”

  • Captain Zachariah Cobb

“I’ll talk to him as soon as I can sir. But thank you for the idea. I know with most Vulcans they like it in the dark.” He then mentioned to it. “You would be a fools to say no. So I’ll go ahead and get you another thing of whiskey. I know you humans love your whiskey.” He added. When he got the whiskey he then came back to the captain and gave it to the captain as he sat.

He then said “Sir it is a very competitive game like solitaire. You have to use logic for this game. Like I said it’s a strategic kind of game. You have to be careful with how you place your piece. If you place it in the wrong spot, then the game will fall apart. If you put it in the right spot then a shape will form. You have to think a little long and hard in order to know where to put it and put think your opponent.”

As Logan finished his Vulcan tea while discussing it with the captain he then went back to the replicator to get another tea and grabbed it out of the replicator. As he realized that the captain isn’t Vulcan he knew it would be a little bit of a concept for him to understand.

He then asked the captain “If you were a Vulcan captain. Would you actually understand it a little?” He then asked. When he sat back down and sipped his drink, he then notice that the captain is satisfied with his explanation that Logan knows a lot.

“Sir permission to say that your games are confusing. Would you like to teach me how to play your games if we have time for it sir.” Logan asked as he sipped from his tea again. As he noticed that he sat there perfectly calm with no hesitation. He knows that humans has feelings that they have to show and that they they have to use their emotions.
