Choosing just to get chocolate ice cream from the replicator, Jeane nodded with a smile. “Ice cream is something I learned about just last year. Dad got me it.” He explained and grabbed his bowl when it was ready. “I really hope I can understand everything the way you and most people do soon. I still get confused by a lot of things.” Walking over to where Cerenity had been earlier, he took a seat and let his wings relax for a little bit so he would not accidentally hit his new friend.

Civilian Jeane Venneroe

Cerenity giggled” l don’t know what your talking about ” she said sweetly looking at the tank trying to spot Angel.
Cerenity

Jeane looked into the tank at the fish, thoroughly interested by them. “I don’t understand the language you use with your wings or…I just don’t understand a lot of things I should at my age.” He tried to explain. “I lived with a man that didn’t let me learn anything.” Eating his ice cream slowly, he kept watching the fish. “Which one of the fish is your favorite?”

Civilian Jeane Venneroe

” Language with are wings” cerenity said confused tuning her head side ways . ” oh cerenity said its not really a Language so much as a umm well it let the other person know what we are feeling. Like when mom is frustrated she fans out the fethers on the top of her wings like this” cerenity said demonstrating. The he asked a question about witch fish is her favorite. “Anger the flower horn right there” pointing to a pink fish.
Cerenity

Jeane had a look on his face that would tell Cerenity he was truly impressed at the control she had over her wings. Touching the feathers of his own wings, he silently wondered if he would ever have that kind of control. He certainly hoped so.

Turning his attention back to the tank when Cerenity pointed to the pink fish, he smiled. “That’s pretty.”

Civilian Jeane Venneroe

” yes I named him they all have names now” she said with a smile. ” the captain and I named them” she added after a moment.
Cerenity

“The Captain seems nice enough.” Jeane said with a hint of distaste in his tone. It was not that he disliked the captain personally. The fear he had of most men simply made the emotions slip out easily. “So…what are all their names?” It was best to keep Cerenity from asking too many questions about himself. Jin’Lor had told him that she was only three years old and should not know about the things the teen had been through yet.

Civilian Jeane Venneroe

Cerenity smiles and started to post out each fish she told him there names and where they were from.” I like fish but birds are my favorite don’t tell the captain”
Cerenity

Jeane smiled, finding interest in any new information given to him. He made a mental note of each fish and all the information Cerenity gave to him about them. By tomorrow he would have everything written down in a notebook he had been given a year ago. “Oh, you know information about birds?” He asked with excitement. “I’ve been reading all kinds of books on birds since Dad taught me how to read and write over a year ago. “If you want, I can let you borrow some of them. There are some really cool birds out there.”

Realizing he was starting to babble, Jeane blushed and squeezed the bowl with his half eaten ice cream in it. “Sorry,” He mumbled. “I get carried away.”

Civilian Jeane Venneroe

Cerenity smiled at him. ” yah mommy has an owl you saw him the other day, mine and mommy’s wings are like owls wings they don’t make much noise” she said excitedly.
Cerenity

Jeane looked at his own wings and blinked. “I don’t know what my wings are of. They’re quiet, but they aren’t as quiet as an owl’s wings. Dad says they might be like raven wings, but he hasn’t tested my blood yet to find out.” The teen shrugged as he looked back to Cerenity. “Why does your mom seem to dislike my dad?”

Civilian Jeane Venneroe

” I don’t know she is afraid of docters and scientists. I’m lucky she gets along with Mr. Lazol” she said with a smile.
Cerenity

“I haven’t met Mr. Lazol. Dad doesn’t want me anywhere near where he works.” Jeane explained and set the bowl aside, unable to eat anymore of the ice cream. “Dad won’t hurt your mom or anyone. He made a promise never to do that unless it’s self-defense. I don’t really get his work, but Dad said he mostly works with samples. He refuses to touch people when he’s working. It’s a bit confusing but he’s never hurt me.” Letting his wings stretch, the teen smiled.

Civilian Jeane Venneroe

” i don’t know why mom is the way she is she just is. Mr. Lazol is the Chief Science officer and im only allowed in the labs if he says i can.” She said quietly. She started playing with the gold pressed latinum bracelet on her hand. ” He is a faring and he’s kinda like my grandpa. You want to meet him i can ask the ship to ask him if he is able to come see us?” She said excitedly.
Cerenity

“I guess it couldn’t hurt to meet him.” Jeane said with a smile. “I’ve never met him before and Dad doesn’t really want me to be around him. He’s worried people will want to take apart my wings or something.” The teen shrugged. “No one I’ve met so far wants to. Only Mr. Zeke ever hurt my wings and it was as punishment…”

Civilian Jeane Venneroe

” Why would anyone touch Your wings even mommy only let loki touch her wings” cerenity said confused.
Cerenity

“I didn’t let him touch my wings, Cerenity.” Jeane got a sad look on his face. “Dad said that Mr. Zeke was a very bad man for what he did to me and said I shouldn’t let anyone touch my wings without permission. He’s been trying to keep me as safe as possible, but I think he forgets I’m sixteen sometimes. You and your mom have very pretty wings. I see why you don’t let anyone touch them.” The teen was obviously trying to keep the subject away from this Zeke person.

Civilian Jeane Venneroe

” actually are wings are realy fragile it doesn’t take much to brake them or mess up are flight fethers and with out are flight fethers we can’t fly your wings are pretty to you should eat your ice cream we need lots of energy to grow and fly” she said with a smile.
Cerenity

Jeane looked at the bowl he had set down, stomach already protesting. “I’ll try, but it’s hard for me to eat much.” He said and picked up the bowl, taking a bite slowly. “Thanks to you and Miss Luna I’m able to start learning how to fly, but…” He went quiet, letting the words hang in the air as old memories played out in his head. The horror of what he had been through would always be there written all over him, even on his face thanks to the scar cutting through his right eye. “Thank you for finding my wings pretty.” He finally said, coming back to reality.

Civilian Jeane Venneroe

” they are my wings are a boring white your have color” cerenity said seemingly obvious.
Cerenity

Jeane tilted his head to the side, confused. “But they’re a pretty white, like snow.” He countered with a smile. “Snow is pretty, so that means your wings are pretty.”

Civilian Jeane Venneroe

“Snow speckled with brown spots ” she said giggling.
Cerenity

Jeane chuckled softly and finally finished his ice cream. “I’m going to regret eating all of that later.” He muttered. “Is there anything else you want to do, Cerenity?”

Civilian Jeane Venneroe

Cerenity thought for a moment. ” I don’t know. Mommy is at work so we can’t go to the holodeck. And the consuler has not given me permission to enter the Lab on the consulting deck so I don’t know” cerenity said quietly.
Cerenity

“Do you know how to read?” Jeane asked as he pulled a book from his jacket he always wore. The pockets were big so he could carry books around with him. They were mostly books about animals, but he read them nonetheless. “I have one of my bird books with me.”

Civilian Jeane Venneroe

” No I can’t read yet” Cerenity said quietly.
Cerenity

Suddenly feeling bad, Jeane just held the book in his hands. “I’m sorry,” He said. “I just assumed…anyway, would you like to learn? I think I still have some of my books for learning to read. And dad could help. He made it really easy and understandable so I figured everything out pretty quick.”

Civilian Jeane Venneroe

Cerenity looked at him exactly. ” yes I would love to learn.” She squealed and flapped her wings.
Cerenity

Jeane smiled and set his book down so he could pull out a little notepad from his other pocket. There were already little notes of the alphabet when he opened it up to show to Cerenity. “I’m no teacher, but I can help you with pronouncing the letters.” He told her, pointing to the small pages with his scratchy handwriting on it. “Sorry if some of it doesn’t look readable. I’m still learning to write.”

” Realy you can teach me to read” she said happly.

Just as the teen was speaking, Jin’Lor walked in, his search for Jeane finally over. “There you are.” He muttered, noticing the other child. “Hello, Cerenity.”

Civilian Jeane Venneroe
Ensign Jin’Lor Venneroe

Cerenity glared at Jin. She had not missed the way he watched her mom. ” you know my mommy is not interested and I have a daddy” Cerenity said crossing her arms.
Cerenity

Shocked to hear Cerenity say such a thing, Jin’Lor blinked for a moment. “I…” He honestly did not know how to respond to the child. The most he had dealt with when it came to children was Jeane. “I didn’t mean any offense.” He tried to say, hoping Cerenity would understand.

Jeane frowned. “Cerenity…Dad isn’t a bad person.” He told her, worried now.

Ensign Jin’Lor Venneroe
Civilian Jeane Venneroe

“He looks at my mommy the way daddy did” cerenity said finly.

“That’s…well, he thinks she’s pretty, Cerenity.” Jeane said, unable to hide or lie about anything. “Is that so bad?”

” No I just don’t want you dad thinking he can replace my dad” she said. Cerenity did not actually know what her moms feelings were. She just did not want Jin to try and replace her dad who was definitely coming back. Well she thought he was coming back.

“Jeane, you shouldn’t tell everyone that.” Jin’Lor grimaced as he spoke, noticing the bird book and Jeane’s notes on the alphabet. “I was unaware of Luna’s feelings, Cerenity. I’ll do my best to stop.” The geneticist knew he would not be able to stop his initial reaction every time Luna walked into a room, though. He could not deny the attraction he had to her, but as someone who often kept to himself, he was not good at expressing such emotions. Perhaps it was best he simply avoided her? That would be impossible, though, since she was helping Jeane.

Things were starting to feel a little too complicated for Jin’Lor, so he gestured to the notes and the book. “Is Jeane teaching you how to read and write now?” He asked Cerenity.

Ensign Jin’Lor Venneroe
Civilian Jeane Venneroe

” Yes I have not been able to figer it out and the computer is not helpful” she said.
Cerenity

Happy to have the subject veer aware from Luna, the geneticist crouched down next to Cerenity and Jeane. He was shocked the child would think that he wanted to replace her father. Sure, he was interested in Luna, but he was not out to replace anyone. With his hand, he tapped the notebook. “Well, I hope Jeane is a good teacher. He’s a fast learner and from what I’ve heard you are too.”

Jeane smiled. “Yeah, dad is a really good teacher!” The teen said with a big smile on his face.

Ensign Jin’Lor Venneroe
Civilian Jeane Venneroe

Cerenity smiled at Jin. ” yah apatently I’m way ahade of other three year olds” she said as of it was normal.
Cerenity

A genuine smile crossed Jin’Lor’s face as he listened to Cerenity. “I’m happy to hear that, Cerenity. It means you’ll get the hang of reading and writing quickly.” He explained. With a finger, he pointed out a few of the letters and explained the sounds for each one. Jeane helped the best he could, showing the young girl words that went with the letters that Jin had shown her.

“I hope it’s not too confusing.” Jeane finally said to Cerenity after a while. “I know my notes are little like chicken scratch.

Ensign Jin’Lor Venneroe
Civilian Jeane Venneroe

Cerenity picked up Jeans book and started to read it out loud. She got quite a few words wrong and others she did not even try and pronoune but she was reading kinda.
Cerenity

Ensign Luna had entered the lounge looking for Cerenity. When she found her reading with Jin and Jean she smiled catching Jin’s attention she put a finger to her lips telling him not to tell Cerentiy she was there. Luna settled on the far side of the room and just watched.
Ensign Luna

Whenever Cerenity would get words incorrect, Jeane would gladly help her with them by explaining the pronunciations and how certain letters worked together to make different sounds. For once, a big smile was on his face.

Jin’Lor glanced toward Luna, getting the hint and kept watching as Jeane helped Cerenity. He was very proud of both children, but to see Jeane actually socializing with another was amazing. It was the first time he had seen Jeane look genuinely happy. “You’re doing good so far. Keep practicing and you’ll be reading like it’s second nature before you know it.” He told Cerenity with a kind smile.

Ensign Jin’Lor Venneroe
Civilian Jeane Venneroe

Cerenity looked up at Jin and smiled. ” thank you, I wish daddy was here do you think he would be happy” she asked quietly.
Cerenity

Jin’Lor smiled kindly to Cerenity. “I’m positive he would be happy and proud of you.” He told her and looked to Jeane. “I know I’m proud of Jeane for coming as far as he has over the past two years.”

Jeane was unsure of what to say and simply messed with his long braid, finally noticing Luna. Something about her position told him to keep quiet, though.

Ensign Jin’Lor Venneroe
Civilian Jeane Venneroe

Cerenity smiled at Jim. ” Thanks i miss Daddy” she said then looked to Jeane. ” Do you miss having a Mommy” she asked the questions was innocent enough. She had not realy though throw the fact that Jeane had not had a mom to begin with.
Cerenity

Jeane shifted uncomfortably where he sat, glancing toward Jin’Lor for help, but the man refused to answer for him. “I…I don’t know. I never knew my mom or dad.” He explained slowly. “I was raised by a very bad man that hurt me a lot. Jin’Lor is the first person to treat me like family.” He gestured to said man, smiling. “He’s the closest thing to a parent I’ve got.”

Jin’Lor nodded, recalling the mess Jeane had been when he found him. “I’ve been trying to find information on his parents, but nothing had come up so far.” He said calmly.

Ensign Jin’Lor Venneroe
Civilian Jeane Venneroe

“Ill share my mommy with you” she said sweetly. She wanted to help Jeane.
Cerenity

Jeane gazed at Cerenity in a bit of confusion. “Uhm…” He was unsure how to respond.

Jin’Lor blinked for a moment before helping his son with an answer. “Cerenity, it doesn’t work that way. The most your mother can be for Jeane at the moment is a teacher, not a mother.” He explained, glancing toward Luna.

“Yeah, I think it’s more complicated than that…” Jeane tried to say, still unsure of how to respond.

Ensign Jin’Lor Venneroe
Civilian Jeane Venneroe

” cerenity just giggled no its simply my grandpa is your boss and we are not atuly related” she said looking right at Jin. It was clear she did not understand at all.
Cerenity

With a sigh, Jin’Lor scratched the back of his neck out of habit. “Maybe this is something you should ask your mother about, Cerenity. If you wanted Luna to be Jeane’s mother, she would have to either adopt him or be married to his father.” He was trying to being straightforward and make it simple for the child.

“I don’t get it but ok ” cerenity said dropping the subject.

Jeane shifted in discomfort. “Maybe we should get back to reading?” He asked.

Ensign Jin’Lor Venneroe
Civilian Jeane Venneroe

She smiled and went back to reader with Jeane.
Cerenity

Jin’Lor was happy she dropped the subject and went to grab a cup of coffee. Knowing his luck, tonight would be a long night of hard work. “Today is just not my day…” He muttered.

Jeane happily helped Cerenity with any words or letters she struggled with, smiling sweetly the entire time.

Ensign Jin’Lor Venneroe
Civilian Jeane Venneroe

Luna caught Jin leaving the childer and waved for him to come over.
Ensign Luna

After grabbing his coffee and giving the children another glance to make sure they were fine, Jin’Lor walked over to where Luna sat. “Hello,” He said with a kind smile on his face. For some reason, he could not help but be comfortable around the winged woman.

Ensign Jin’Lor Venneroe

” hi so how are you” Luna asked and she smiled sweetly at him. She could not help her attraction to him. But she felt do very guilty. She could not forget loki what would he think if he saw her. Not that he was even alive.

It had been a long first day for Gil so far. Mostly he had been crawling through jeffries tubes and tending to minor technical malfunctions all the while having to routinely check anomaly containment. He was tired and in desperate need of a drink and some food. Such needs led him to the lounge where he ordered himself a cherry soda and a burrito. And it was only as he was searching for a place to sit that he saw someone he recognized.

“Luna?” He said as he went to her. “I’m Gil, we went to the academy together.” Gil admitted it was nice to see a friendly face on the Leviathan.

-Gil

Luna blinked and turned her head sideways. ” Gil? G..il? Oh we use to get into so much trouble together” Luna said giggling as she remembered who he was.
Ensign Luna

Suddenly very uncomfortable at the sight of this Gil acting so close to Luna, Jin’Lor decided to keep his distance. Slowly drinking his coffee, he kept an eye on the children. Something about it just irritated him, but he knew better than to word his feelings around other people.

Ensign Jin’Lor Venneroe

Gil laughed. “Oh I’m still not sure how me didn’t get kicked out of the academy after what we did to Admiral Janeway’s coffee…” Then he noted the winged children sitting next to a very stern-looking, yet still handsome, man and Gil blinked in surprise. “Oh, Luna. Don’t tell me this is your family! You’re a mom? My goodness you didn’t waste time.” He looked to Jin, still thinking he was Luna’s husband as he offered the man his hand to shake. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, sir. I’m Gil, an old friend of Luna’s.”

  • Gil

luna burst into a fight of gigles at the pranke they pulled on Admirl Janeway. but at the mention of the childern luna shook her head. “The girl is mine her name is Cerenity, This is Jin hes umm..” Her face turned bright read. she still realy like him. “he my friend and Jean the Boy is his adopted sun” Luna exsplaned.
ensing Luna

Jin’Lor glared at Gil’s hand for a moment before speaking. “I don’t shake hands.” He stated with a grimace and took another sip of his coffee. Noticing Luna’s blush, he raised an eyebrow, but decided not to say anything of it. “My name is Jin’Lor, but Jin is fine.”

At the mention of his name, Jeane turned his gaze toward the adults, noticing how uncomfortable Jin’Lor was. “Looks like the new engineer is here.” He said to Cerenity. “And he knows your mom…”

Ensign Jin’Lor Venneroe
Civilian Jeane Venneroe

Gil shrugged and nodded. “Oh? Sorry Fair enough, Jin. Nice to meet you.” He looked to Luna and shrugged, wondering if he’d said something wrong. Then he looked to Cerenity and smiled. “Hi. I’m Gil. I’m a friend of your mother’s.” Then he looked to Luna again. “She’s cute, just like her mom.” He was saying that out of courtesy. He’s been trying to work on being more sociable. He was aware that Luna was pretty but he wasn’t attracted to her. So the implications that came with such a sentence didn’t dawn on him. “What have you been up to since the academy?” He asked Luna.

An eye twitched as Jin’Lor’s gaze turned into a glare toward Gil. “What’s that supposed to mean?” The words came out before he could stop them, colder than intended. A part of him simply wanted to punch this boy in the face, but he knew better than to cave to such temptation. It was already difficult enough to get a job with his background and mental issues.

Jeane grimaced and got to his feet, hands playing with the trinket in his hair. “Dad’s upset…” He murmured.

Ensign Jin’Lor Venneroe

Luna put a gentle hand on his shoulder. ” Its ok boys lets just sit and eat. ” Jin you want anything I think I’m going to get some macaroni and cheese” Luna said with a smile.

Cerenity giggled ” besides he’s just trying to be nice we all know I’m way cuter then my mom” she said with a smile.
Ensign Luna

Gil looked surprised at Jin’s reaction and blinked. “Err… I’m sorry? Did I say something that upset you?” He tried to think of something then shrugged. “All I said was Cerenity’s a cute kid.” He looked to Luna and took a seat then laughed at Cerenity’s comment. “I won’t argue with that!” He kept an eye on Jin, however, unsure how he’d react.

  • Gil

Jin’Lor grimaced. “I’m not hungry, but Jeane could use another meal.” He said, trying to keep his emotions under control. “Have you eaten anything other than the ice cream, son?”

Luna gave Jin a look. ” your not leaving me with both children” Luna said warningly.

Said teenager walked over to them and smiled up at his father. “Uhm…no.” Jeane said before looking at Gil. “So, you know Miss Luna? She’s teaching me how to fly!”

Ensign Jin’Lor Venneroe
Civilian Jeane Venneroe

Luna shook her head and smiled.
Ensign Luna

Gil nodded to Jeane. “Yeah, we were friends in the academy. She’s a great flier. She was always showing those fly-boys in flight school new tricks.” He chuckled, recalling the befuddled looks of the pilots whenever Luna would perform her aerobatics at the airbase.
Gil

Jin’Lor blinked. “Who said I was leaving?” He said, eyes narrowing at Gil’s words.

Jeane merely looked confused. “I wish I could fly that well.” He stated as his wings stretched out as far as they were willing to go at the moment. They soon returned to his back, folding and pressing close to the teen, revealing just how small he was. “What do you do on the ship, Mr. Gil?”

Ensign Jin’Lor Venneroe
Civilian Jeane Venneroe

” its ok Jeane I can’t fly like mommy ether” cerenity said. Luna simply smiled and disappeared she returned with food for the child and a plat of macaroni for herself. ” eat you food Jeane” Luna warned the teen.

Turning her attention away from the child back to the adults she asked. ” so what were we talking about.”
Ensign Luna

Gil smiled, “Just talking about how you showed off to the flyboys at the academy. They were always wanting you to hang out after that.” Gil chuckled. “Those pilots were always asking me about her. She was quite popular.” He noted the look Jin’Lor was still giving him and frowned. “You okay, sir?”

Jeane pouted but ate his food, knowing that if he wasted it there would be no end of it from his father for the next week. They had traveled far and wide to get to this point and he needed to learn to appreciate the things he got so easily now. The teen just hoped his stomach would cooperate this time.

Jin’Lor shrugged with a sigh. “It’s nothing…” He muttered and looked away. There was no way he would be showing jealousy in front of this little engineer boy, but that temptation to break his nose was getting a little too strong.

He could not hide the fact from his son, though. Jeane smiled, tilting his silver haired head to the side, and said, “Dad, why don’t you just tell him you’re into Miss Luna?”

Glaring at his son, he seethed, “Jeane, what have I told you about sharing other people’s business?!”

The smile did not leave Jeane’s face as he shrugged.
