My Lady Sujin. You asked for unexplainable occurrences, unusual rumors, and bizarre happenings. I am pleased to report that I have more than rumors for you. To show my gratitude for your protection, I bring news of a truly stimulating product.
There is an auction (yes, that sort of auction,) where a certain special friend of yours is selling a most peculiar individual. Do with this what you will, but remember, I am your most faithful vassal.
-Pan

Sujin Surda sighed as she deciphered Pan’s Jusson’s message. A special friend meant they were almost certainly one of J’okho’s friends, and she knew exactly what sort of circles J’okho ran in. Stimulating product, that meant she’d have to bring this to the Captain. Excellent. She’d have to write back first.

My faithful Pan. I appreciate this info more than you can imagine. I will, most hopefully, be present at the auction. There are new members I would like to bring along. If you plan to meet us there you need not bring money. My special friend will not be weighing down their pockets.
-Sujin

Surda stood outside of Cobb’s office, holding a PADD at her side. She pressed the chime, shifting slightly at the thought of presenting her confidential info. What did one say first, “Let me tell you about my ex-husband, let me tell you about my underground network,” or should she start with “So you know how my entire file is redacted?”

At that precise moment, the captain was not in his ready room, but still making his return from the containment deck, where he had just completed a tour for their newest engineer, Gil. But upon entering the CIC and sighting the Orion Security Chief at the door, Zachariah’s own eyes grew wide and a somewhat panicked expression settled across his face.
“Ah, Lieutenant,” he cleared his throat at the completion of his approach, moving quickly to open the ready room door and usher them both inside. “Is this because of the…ah…incident this morning? I swear, I had no idea the bloody thing could spit like that! I apologize now for whichever of your officers had to clean that disgusting mess up after I’d gone.”

Moving quickly to the bar, he attempted to regain her good graces with an offering - two glasses of a spiced, Orion rum. Handing one to her with an apologetic smile, he sipped anxiously at his own as he waited for the expected dressing down.

  • Captain Zachariah Cobb

Surda nearly smiled at the mention, as the JO assigned had submitted a very detailed report, but instead took the glass and drank. “It is not, although I’d much rather be discussing contained anomalies.” She set down the PADD, opening it to a Starchart of the Leviathan’s current location. “Two systems away is a planet officially titled Phyle-Gamma-2. Colloquially, we call it Gehenna. It’s popular with smugglers, auctioneers, and undercover agents of the Federation. There are 14 settlements, 2 of which have shuttle landing areas. Of those two, one is a legitimate mining colony, and the other is Abyse.”

Cobb lifted the PADD and studied it intently. As was doubtless expected, he had never heard of Phyle-Gamma-2. Or of Abyse. Although the sinking in his gut told him that was possibly about to change…

She sighed, running a hand through her hair. “Abyse is filled with auction houses. Imagine Risa, only everything is illegal.” Not that everything was legal on Risa, but they at least tried to be discreet. “Tomorrow there will be an exclusive auction, where the main product is some sort of Darwin-type anomaly, presumably humanoid.” She took a breath, relaxing before making her request. “I’d like to take a team undercover and retrieve the anomaly.” And perhaps, the rest of the prizes would be lost in the confusion.

“An auction of…anomalies?” the captain inhaled sharply. Zachariah Cobb was no fool. He had never denied the ARU’ s interest in theoretical weaponry when it came to anomalous research. But had he believed them unique in realising the immense power potentials at play?

The rum was a nice touch, Orion alcohol may be quickly made, but like everything Orion, it was well spiced. She took another sip, refraining from betraying her nerves visibly. Surda didn’t necessarily need a team, she could simply call on the Jmen pix Sujin Mleiz, but calling scattered people away from their missions when she had a force available seemed foolish.

Sitting back, Cobb sipped at his own rum as he battled to make sense of jumbled thoughts. “Who would you be requesting for this team?” he asked finally, “and what would be the inherent dangers involved in such a mission?”

  • Captain Zachariah Cobb

“I’ve been assured that there is only the one anomaly.” Surda grimaced. “We are called to protect people from anomalies, but I fear this is more of an anomaly rescue mission.” She thought for a moment, considering her available combinations. “The mission would be undercover, and officers present would be posing as members of the Scarlet Ghost Syndicate. Pretending to be part of the syndicate is completely safe,” she rushed to assure him, “the vassals wouldn’t exact revenge, but it’s still infiltration.”

“I’d like to take Ensign Anders, Lieutenant Synthi-er, and perhaps DaiMon Lazol if he’s so inclined.” As much as she hated it, both Vonn and Luna would stick out too much, even in her eclectic syndicate. “Another Orion, codenamed Pan, will meet us there. I’m willing to take up to five officers, but an escort of more than six would be inviting trouble.” She’d gladly take his suggestions, having little interaction with the non-security crewmembers. “It should be fairly safe, in and out. Maybe a couple of explosions, depending on Pan’s mood.”
