“Captain” Lazol said, clicking his tongue gently as he said, “I am indeed asking you to authorize the Leviathian to go after what I haven’t even named. I have searched and everything I’ve found has either been captured or neutralized. And I know as Chief Science Officer I could order you to go pursue it. However I like to think for some things we’re beyond that. Now don’t get me wrong I’m not trying to be friends or something, I’m trying to be honest and have you understand that I do have a modicum of respect for you and your position.” Lazol replied, probably sounding like a right jerk but he was, true to his word, being honest.

Cobb’s eyebrows rose to his hairline as let out an amused chuckle. “Well, you’re honest, Mr Lazol. I’ll give you that. And in truth I appreciate it. There is far too much doublespeak on this ship for my liking at times.”
Whiskey glass now drained, it was settled onto the tabletop with a thud. A signal for the final verdict about to be made.

“I take it you have a target location in mind? If so then I am willing to agree to our passage towards it. So long as there is no impediment to ARU-issued orders.”

A pause as he glanced around the room, as if confirming that the walls themselves were devoid of ears.
“I don’t think either of us is foolish enough to cross central command.”

“I’m still working out the specifics Captain, but I have a few of my scientists with astrometric backgrounds working on pinpointing it given the known pattern and reported sightings. Once I have that data I will return and present you with that, but the plan of action coordinated with the RTF. I still need to meet with Vonn and quite frankly the whole Dominion war soured me on the Breen. Any insights on how to proceed down that avenue?”

A growl as the burly captain cleared his throat. “Insights?”
Were he on the other side of the table then Zachariah Cobb would be the last man he would come to for advice on the Breen. How to kill them, possibly? But how to work with them, to co-exist in the same immediate location, that was a trick he doubted would ever be mastered.
“To tell you the truth, Mr Lazol, so far I have maintained as much distance as possible between myself and Kodek Vonn. I have no doubts on their combat or leadership abilities. But if Kara Nakuto is to be believed,” and here the eyebrows suggested this to be a transient possibility at best, “then the Breen do not make for engaging conversationalists.”

Chuckling, Lazol nodded and said, “Not engaging conversationalists with no understanding of profit and the art of business. I see I’ll have no luck getting through to them then. What do the Breen even like? Maybe a bribe? A sharp knife perhaps?” Lazol mused with a chuckle.

He noted what he was doing, lowered his voice, “No Captain, if I can say anything with certainty about you, it’s that you’re an intelligent man who knows when to push the boundaries and when to tow the line. How’s the tools set by the way?”

“Aye, that is a lesson I learned not a moment too soon,” he accepted the resemblance of a compliment.

The mention of the tools, however, triggered a surge of excitable animation. “Oh, they’re as wonderful as you might expect!” the exclamation was punctuated by a palm against the desktop. “I have been making myself useful all over the ship. Much to the chagrin of the engineering team, I have no doubt,” he admitted with a red-faced chuckle.

He nodded again and said, “I had it on good authority that you light like those. And causing a problem for Engineering is a personal goal of mine so I’m glad to hear it. Unless you have anything else for me Captain I’ll take my leave?”
