Casela sat in her office, twiddling her thumbs for lack of anything to do. They were all watching her, she couldn’t blink without people asking if she was ‘okay.’ Of course she wasn’t. She knew that, by the Great Fire, everyone knew that. But this wasn’t her. They were going off on this crazy mission for Roebuck and as of right now, Casela was the weakest link on the ship, and she didn’t like that. She knew there was no way she’d be the strongest link, there was too much lost over the last months, but she could be better. And she knew who would understand. Precautions would have to be taken, or she’d have to be aware of her limitations, but she didn’t have to sit here either. As long as no one knew she’d get away with it. With that in mind, Casela slipped out of her office and off the deck, taking a very round about way to the RTF deck and the RCO office where she palmed the chime. If anyone asked, she’d tell them she was checking up on a couple of officers who had been having problems.
Lt Synthi-er, CNS

The door slid open without a command revealing the still undecorated and spartan office of the RTF Commander. Long rifle in the corner, as usual. Disruptor on hip, as usual. Hands flat on the desk and immobile… as usual. When the door opened, the helmet didn’t move but the voice said “Counselor. Do come in. How may I be of assistance to you today?”

Vonn, RCO

Casela entered, started to sit, but didn’t. One out of respect, but also because she simply felt like all she did was sit. She liked his office. Undecorated and spartan it might be, but it reflected his no-nonsense personality. Her office was bigger but was just as spartan. Minus her official credentials as a counselor on display because according to regulations those were supposed to be easily accessed by crew, to ‘ease their anxieties.’ Or some such nonsense. She felt no need for small talk or to beat about the bush, as the human saying went. “I am by no means cleared to return to duty on RTF, but as things stand I am the weakest link on this ship. Someone has to be there if it is me, so be it. However, that doesn’t mean I have to be a liability. As things stand now, in my present…lack of conditioning, that is what I am. I don’t like it, and you are the only person on this ship that I think would actually help me rectify that situation.”

The Breen didn’t move but the voice said “You are becoming less like yourself, Lieutenant. Being sedentary has that effect. Your thoughts are getting away from you. Simplify and be direct. Focus. Now… start again.”

Vonn, RCO

Oh he was right and it irked her. Not Vonn but the fact it was true. “I came to ask if you, Vonn, would help me get back my skill and efficiency. Put me through my paces, as the saying goes.”
Synthi-er, CNS

“Tell me again of your injuries, your surgery, your current limitations imposed on you by Medical, and your prognosis.”

Vonn, RCO

Casela nodded, “Several months ago I had to have surgery to repair a shattered rib. The surgery I recently had was to fix complications from that first surgery. I sustained multiple injuries during my last off ship ‘assignment’. Broken bones, lacerations, blunt force trauma, all healed. What has kept me on light duty is a much older injury to my paracortex. Aggravated by my encounter with our previous CE and again during my last assignment. I am having seizures, but they are much less frequent and seem to be triggered by excessive telepathic input.”
Synthi-er CNS

“Is the injury repaired, or is it going to be persistent? What are the effects of heightened blood pressure and exertion? Is the brain injury the only surgery you are recovering from? What other medical issues do you have that will effect your performance?”

Vonn, RCO

“In the process of being repaired, slowly. Dr Knox is ‘encouraging’ healing, but it will take time. I have lived with it for over 12 years. Blood pressure and exertion only seems to be a factor if I’m using telepathy. It is the only thing I am still recovering from. I have multiple injuries from over the years, but they are either totally recovered or I have learned to move around them. Example, I have quite a bit of scar tissue in my back below my shoulder blades. I have learned to compensate or I have completed physical therapy to regain blood flow and movement in the area.”
Synthi-er CNS

“When did you last do strenuous activity?” The desk interface activated and screens slid quickly by, all without movement from Vonn.

Vonn, RCO

She had to stop herself from asking if he meant strenuous to her or others. Casela trained hard, under normal circumstances, constantly. But she took stock of her current condition and what strenuous would look like now. “12 weeks. While I was gone on assignment.”
Lt Synthi-er CNS

There was a sizable pause and the the voice said “And what are you hoping to accomplish? Increase fitness? Recover combat abilities? All or none of the above?”

Vonn, RTF CO

What was she trying to accomplish, it wasn’t a reprieve from boredom she was seeking, though it may appear so. There was silence as she gathered her thoughts, or focus as Vonn had put it, and that was the crux of her issue. “As you put it so astutely, I have lost my focus. My ability to focus, to analyze and evaluate, make a decision and react.
Not just my physical fitness and physical combat abilities, but my mental ones.”
Lt Synthi-er, CNS
