(snip)

She opened her eyes, walked over to him and took his hand. “I’m sorry, really. You didn’t deserve that.” She picked up a PaDD in her other hand and held it up to him. “This isn’t about all that. It’s about Gen and us, and our family.” She took a shuddering breath. She blinked and turned to the table confused and embarrassed by the fact she still wanted to cry. She was far too emotional. “I’m not sure what’s wrong with me. Maybe it’s the headaches?” She looked at the PaDDs he had and glanced through them. She smiled softly. “Nice to know even when I’m crazy we’re on the same path. What I have is just exact duplicates of what you have.”

The shadows on the floor rippled slightly and Gen materialised. “Can I have a cookie?” She asked both Cas and Ryder. Oblivious to the stressful situation she had entered into or the paperwork involved.

Gen

Before Raauhl had answered or said anything Gen had so innocently asked her question which caused him to loose his angry look and laugh he wasn’t sure what it was about the question that made him find it so funny perhaps it was just simply the innocent nature of the question breaking down the awkward tension in the room. “Yes you can have a cookie, only if I get one too” He smiled at Gen not forgetting the argument they had but choosing to put Gen in front of it.

  • Commander Raauhl, XO

Casela smiled as Gen appeared and laughed at her question. It was simple and direct and put things in perspective. She didn’t want to argue with Ryder, she hadn’t meant to. She knew he was joking and she had no idea why she’d gotten angry. It wasn’t like her. Something was wrong. But right now she had her family, and that was all that mattered. Still smiling she turned to Gen. “A cookie? You want a cookie?” She grinned a teasing note to her voice and she looked at Ryder, “And you too? I suppose you both want milk with it too?” She asked with a grin remembering a children’s story about a mouse who got a cookie but had no end to requests to go with the cookie. She squeezed his hand before letting go. She walked into the kitchen pulling out two plates and warming them along with the giant chocolate chip cookies that were still left. She scooped ice cream onto the plates with the cookies and grabbed spoons too. The chocolate cookie didn’t appeal to her at the moment but she made a third for herself anyway, sharing the treat as a family. She carried them out to the table and put them down on the table with a flourish and then disappeared and returned again with 3 glasses of milk. “How’s that?” She kissed the top of Gen’s head as she moved around the table, stopping to kiss Ryder. She knew he hadn’t forgotten but he and Gen were far too important to her, and she loved them both no matter what.

The girl grinned at the treat. An actual all out normal child’s happy smile. The first she had given since being aboard. She eagerly grabbed the spoon and began eating, feet swinging happily as she sat on the chair.
